Lionel Luthor said:Because I believe this should be a Green Lantern film not a Green Lantern Corps film.
The character has never been done in live action before so they should stick to the classic Abin Sur origin story with Hal Jordan. Throwing in a bunch of other human Green Lanterns in the same film devalues the importance of that classic origin.
It isnt about a definitive Green Lantern. Its about which human GLC member came first. They can add John and Guy in the sequel but it seems logical and wise to start with Hal Jordan.

There's a very nice Hal propaganda thread here: "Your GL Movie"
I believe comments of this agenda and logic would fit better there. I could restate my arguements against those points here if you feel it is necessary.

It seems on every other planet that's represented in the Corp., whenever someone in one race is killed, someone else of the same race takes their place.
