Casting ideas for Judge Dredd

He never takes off his helmet(and when he does, his face is not fully shown) because it's a representation of Dredd being the ultimate lawman whose only purpose in life is to serve the law, and he'll serve it without regret and without mercy. Because he is very much deprived of emotions, this makes him an incorruptable force.

You could very well say that he's the perfect opposite of V from "V For Vendetta". As the faceless V represents anarchy, the faceless Dredd represents totalitarianism.

I personally believe that if you never see their face then it is more important to have a good actor in the role. You need a good actor to be able to convey things without ever seeing their face. Granted, Dredd doesn't exactly have a really interesting personality, but the actor who gets the gig needs to convey authority and anger without ever being seen. That's a tough task.

agreed

Just watching TDK I thought Aaron Eckhart would make a good Dredd, he would need to bulk up but he has the perfect chin for Dredd.

I read an interview with Simon Pegg said that Judge Dredd was meant to be Clint Eastwood, so

I know it would never ever happen, but maybe an actor with his sort of presents or style.

Well, Dredd is partly based on Dirty Harry(and Frankenstein from Death Race 2000).

Man!! Look at that mug!! You would definately get a sense "dread" if he would give you a look like that! He'd tear you up just for jaywalking. Neither Sin City's Marv:marv: nor Frank Castle:unishr: got nothin' on this guy.

Hardly any male actors today can do what people like Eastwood did in their prime.

I think that type of '70's action films tough guy is sort of comig back with the likes of Daniel Craig, Clive Owen, Jason Statham, Ray Stevenson, Josh Brolin, and Mickey Rourke. Non-boyish, masculine, with a heart of gold.

While the critics of their times often wouldn't admit to it.

Movies like Dirty Harry, Shaft, and what not were awesome movies. We don't see movies like that anymore except for ones that mimic them.

Ray Stevenson isn't doing it with garbage like Punisher Warzone and Cirque Du Freak.

Jason Statham makes some fun stuff but he still stars in a lot of trash like DEATHRACE.

Mickey Rourke's hardly new to the game. He's been around for years and years. Each film he does is like another comeback so it's almost becoming silly. Rourke does these hard edged tough guy kind of roles. But he only played Marv once. What came after? Oh, Domino, that's right.

Clive Owen? Shoot 'Em Up.

I think Daniel Craig is an awesome, hard nosed, and harsh Bond. But it's still James Bond.

Just saying, you don't see these strong male performers coming up with characters like that anymore.

You can't just blame todays actors though. It's a overall lack of imagination and creativity in Hollywood these days, the number of reboots and whatever proves this.

I don't just blame them. I blame a lot of the lawyers who become the studio executives as well :D .

For the 10.000th time:

You DO NOT see his face.

You don't need a high profile actor.
Thats probably an even better reason to get a good actor. Since you dont see his face as much, the acting will probably stand out more.

I haven't seen Cirque Du Freak. On PWZ, we'll just agree to dissagree.

He was also great in Rome.

Deathrace was a pretty fun action flick. He was also very good in "Revolver" and "The Bank Job".

Clive Owen? Shoot 'Em Up.

Sin City. The upcoming "The International".

Sin City was one movie had a segmented part in several years ago. The International is Hollywood dumping ground movie.

that's a myth.

Yeah right you need a better actor because you do not see his face...

You need an actor who can pull off the tough guy. Not an actor who can play Shakespearian theatre.

BTW: it's not the problem to cast a good actor, it's the problem to cast a FAMOUS actor.

We need a good actor who is a big guy with a distinctive voice and mouth/chin, not an easy thing to find in Hollywood these days, or anywere for that matter.

You ask me, Patrick Warburton would be the perfect Dredd. Think about it.

i'm new to the boards and I just found this thread, and I made the same recomendation for Patrick Warburton in the other Dredd movie thread...

I can't believe someone else had the same idea, and brad thompson had crossed my mind a while ago too, cheers to you guys who thought of these two actors as well...:yay:

Tom Jane or Adam Baldwin for Dredd and Stephen Norrington or Neil Marshall to direct for me, final choices. Hopefully we'll start getting announcements soon.
