Casting Thread for WATCHMEN (Suggestions and Announcements!!!)

Simon Pegg would definitley be my top choice for Rorschach as well.

Alan Tudyk as Rorschach

Jason Isaacs as Ozymandias

Both are very solid choices, Tudyk in particular is a great choice for Rorschach! Isaacs can play anything as far as I'm concerned, however the big surprise of the comic/film is that he is
the villain
and everyone will expect that if Isaacs is cast.

My choices:

Joaquin Phoenix as Nite Owl II

Amanda Peet as Silver Spectre II

Ron Perlman as The Comedian

Josh Lucas as Ozymandias

Simon Pegg as Rorschach

Alan Tudyk is good too, but is a bit too well known via Dodgeball & his other projects...

Billy Zane as Doc Manhattan

Barry Shabaka Henley as Dr. Malcolm Long

Just because he's awesome and deserves more work!

Christopher Walken as Moloch

Jim Broadbent as Hollis Mason/Nite Owl I

Blythe Danner as Silver Spectre I

What do people think of that cast?

Hmm... Ron Perlman seems a little young for The Comedian. I love Jim Broadbent, but I don't see him pulling off an American accent. I don't think that Josh Lucas is sophisticated enough for Ozymandias. Other than that I like it.

Ron Perlman is a master of make-up, so they could age him further than his 56 years. I'm quite certain Broadbent could do an american accent, it's what dialect coaches are for. Josh Lucas is an actor, it wouldn't be to much of a stretch for an actor to act sophisticated.

wow, Alan Tudyk looks goofy enough to play Rorschach. Simon Peg looks alright, but not goofy enough. But Alan Tudyk looks young as well, so that might be a problem.

someone said William H. Macy. He looks close to the part, possibly at the right age as well.

You have to consider that in Hayter's script Ozymandias, Dan Dreiberg, Laurie and Rorshach are 5-10 years younger tahn in the book. And that the Comoedian is shown in ages ranging from his 30s to his 60s.

yea, thats true. So then im with Alan Tudyk then. He looks goofy enough, and if they needed to, im sure they can make him look alittle bit older.

Hmm, where does it say exactly? Altough, I don't have the entire script, more like last two thirds of it.

The two things you have to be aware of is that when casting Rorschach you don't want to cast too much of a known, ruins the surprise (the producers have said that as well). With Veidt you don't want to cast someone who is indentifiable with being a
villain
, ruins the other surprise.

Well, that's the point. Walter Kovacs didn't look intimidating in the comic without the mask. He looked like a random bum from the street, that's why he was parading as one. IMO Macy is the closest thing to a real-life Kovacs.

I have to agree with this. I think he'd be a great Rorschach.

True, but there lies a ****ing sadist under the surface. So he needs to have that psycho tone in his face. (which I don't think Macy has.)
I think Daniel Craig could be good for the part and Simon Pegg looks just like him (never seen any of his movies though..)

alan tudyk doesn't look f'd up enough to play rorschach, in my opinion. i'd rather see someone with more character in their face take the roll, like pegg or macy.

good casting choices. i think i'd replace phoenix with john cusak and lucas with jude law, but the rest sound perfect. dr. manhatten should probably cgi.

He does look hauntingly like the drawn character from the comics, but he is too well known and he also doesn't have a creepy voice. He sounds like the nicest dude in the planet. Rorschach should creep the crap out of people.

I'm one of those people who find Jude Law severely overrated. I find him to be one of the least interesting actors working today. He's a fan and I respect that, but so is everyone else on this forum. I don't see anyone handing us parts. As for Cusack, I think he's good, but I find him a little too dry these days. Phoenix has the chops to play Dreiberg and I think his chemistry with the rest of the selected cast I've chosen would be great.
