Peter Krause is an interesting addition I would not have thought of, but Brad Pitt is WAAAYYY to big a star to play opposite those others. Val Kilmer is still the best suggestion IMO, especially since he plays obtuse characters well.

Glad to see the Gerald Butler train is gaining steam.

People, the man's name is GerARD. And he'd only be able to play Dr. Manhattan very well if he could lose his accent. I really like him as an actor, but there are probably better choices for that role.

I'm all for Daniel Craig or William H. Macy as Rorschach. Jennifer Connelly's probably the dream pick for The Silk Spectre, though I'm sure there are dozens of actresses who could pull it off (Amanda Peet was an old choice of mine).

No to Kilmer playing Veidt. He's dark enough that the more clandestine aspects of Veidt would be too obvious.

I could kind of see Matthew McConaughey playing Adrian Veidt, actually. If, he could lose his accent.

And I still want to see Kurt Russell as Nite Owl.

I like the idea of Craig as well, but he's probably too recognizable as James Bond now.

Hello everybody, long time reader of the boards, and I'm just chiming in with my casting suggestions :woot:

Walter Kovacs (Rorschach): Doug Hutchison (After I first seen ConcreteBlock15's suggestion of him awhile back, I was completely sold)

Edward Blake (The Comedian): Powers Boothe

Jon Osterman (Doctor Manhattan): Daniel Day-Lewis

wait a minute, have they mentioned what role Gerard Butler will play, or at least rumored to be playing?

Here's my casting. Some of it's a bit shakey, but I'm fairly happy with it.

180px-DavidPrincesTrust2.jpg

Rorschach (Walter Joseph Kovacs) - David Thewlis
Maybe it's a bit outside the box. Heck, he's not even that ugly (though he's got a big nose). Either way, go watch him in Mike Leigh's "Naked". Brilliant performance and it's not hard to imagine his character at the end of the movie stop complaining about how terrible the world is and putting on a costume and becoming Rorschach. I kinda like Daniel Craig for the part as well. There's even been entire websites dedicated to his "interesting" look. :)

John-Cusack-Biography.jpg

Nite Owl II (Daniel Dreiberg) - John Cusack
Had to go for this pick. His name's been tossed around before and I couldn't really think of anyone else. Sean Penn, maybe? But Penn's a tad intense and I don't see him putting on a costume for a comic book movie anytime soon.

harshTimes1.jpg

Doctor Manhattan (Jonathan Osterman) - Christian Bale
I was a bit reluctant to go for Bale in the role. It's a tough part to cast, especially since I have no idea how they're gonna pull the character off. Bale might not be bad, especially as a pre-accident Doc Manhattan. Honestly, I don't see a big name actor agreeing to be painted blue, so they may as well end up going CGI. I also like the Daniel Day-Lewis suggestion Kovacs made a few posts above.

jennifer-connelly.jpg

Silk Spectre II (Laurie Juspeczyk) - Jennifer Connelly
I'll just go with the semi-popular choice for the role. Personally, I think she's a bit too beautiful for the part, but I don't mind. :)

011a.jpg

Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt) - Ralph Fiennes
First saw Fiennes suggested elsewhere, and as far as I'm concerned, it's a good fit. He certainly exudes an air of intelligence and he's kinda got a pretty face.

Casting Part II

250px-Imcshane.jpg

The Comedian (Edward Blake) - Ian McShane
Saw him suggested elsewhere as well. As far as I'm concerned, he's perfect. A bit tough of a part to cast as well since his character spans many decades, but I think McShane can nail the 70s era Comedian.

WireImage_2769934.jpg

Moloch (Edward Jacobi) - Joel Grey
Look at the picture. The guy's perfect!

paul_newman_wire_150.jpg

Nite Owl I (Hollis J. Mason) - Paul Newman
No explanation necessary.

malcolm-david-kelley.jpg

Bernie the Kid - Malcolm David Kelley
Only kid I could think of.

db_jason_smith_LFP_1081.jpg

Bernard the News Vendor - Shane Rimmer
Not too sure about this one. But Rimmer's been in just about every movie I've seen in the past few months. He's quite everywhere once you realize it's him.

Phonebooth17.jpeg

Dr. Malcolm Long - Forest Whitaker
Good actor. Maybe he won't wanna do the part now that he's got an Oscar.

And also:

Detective Steve Fine - Bill Nighy
Detective Joe Bourquin - Stephen Fry

Just couldn't post images of these two. :)

How about this choice for Rorshach: Doug Jones.

Physically similar, not famous enough to spoil the identity reveal, well respected as a physical actor (Pan's Labyrinth, Abe Sabien, etc) which will help him emote while behing a mask. Think about it.

and to complete casting with fanboy icons, Bruce Campell as The Comedian and Mark Hamill as Nite Owl II

wait a minute, have they mentioned what role Gerard Butler will play, or at least rumored to be playing?

Rumours are leading towards either Comedian or Manhattan, he has not been cast in any role officially, as far as we know.

Bulter seems to fit an early Comedain well, the Miniutemen version. I really like Ian McShane for 'Nam Comedain as well. Although it would be wierd seeing Lovejoy as a hard assed 'Nam vet (no I havn't seen Deadwood)

Butler is more of a Veitnam Blake than a Minutemen Blake. If I remember correctly he was very young in the Minutemen, close to 19 I think.

I jus flicked through the book, and Butler kinda looks a lot more like Miniutemen Blake. Mabie it's just me, but he doesn't look grizzled enough to be 'Nam Blake

Brad Pitt way too big? Maybe you're forgetting that Tom Cruise was in talks to be Ozymandias? Do you think that Pitt is bigger than Cruise?
And Gerard Butler was proposed for Manhattan and the Comedian by someone here (like me) even before he was cast in 300.

He was 18 in the Minutemen of the book, that was not in the latest draft I read and strongly doubt will be in the movie.
In that draft Blake is shown from hi 40s, during the 'Nam, to his 60s in the killing scene at the beginning, so they'll probably cast someone close to 40 and than age him with make-up.

I like the idea of Craig as well, but he's probably too recognizable as James Bond now.
With a little make-up he can be made unrecognizable in medium and long shots.
Does this guy look like James Bond to you?
infamous.jpg

That's Craig from Infamous. And he was one of the actors in talks for the role 2 years ago.

I like the idea of Gerard Butler as Manhatten.

Good to see my suggestion of Powers Booth finally gaining steam. :yay:

I do not understand the William H. Macy for Rorschach support - I mean seriously...WTF?

I also can't see Gerard Butler playing any character BUT The Comedian.
He certainly does not fit Rorschach or Nite Owl.
He does not look like a pretty boy, so Veidt's out.
And I don't think he has the voice for Doc Manhattan.

Well, he looks the part, is a terrific actor and in a good shape for his age and if you saw Edmond, he play the psychotic well.
But he's 10 years too old now.

Daniel Craig doesn't have the build for Rorschach. He was James Bond for crying out loud. Rorschach is short and scrawny and ugly.

Doug Hutchison is perfect, no offense to the guy.

The guys at Craig is not Bond.com liked to say that Daniel is short, scrawny and ugly.
