Champions Online VS DC Universe

That really didn't tell me much other than there'll be long and short missions. Just from all the footage I've seen, villain and hero missions were nearly identical, just with different obectives.

I don't know how CO is planning to do the villain experience, but I want to have more to do than simply being evil and get into the heroes way. Villains reach from the typical bank robber who just wants to be rich, to the world conquering maniac.

I want both games try to do more than just have the villain do the opposite of the hero or be someone's errand boy. I think CoH/V had that problem. Someone was always telling you what to do and where to go. You were never really your own man, you always had to do someone's dirty work.

Its an MMORPG..there will always be that guy that gives you missions. You cant start off as Dr Doom or Red Skull or what would be the purpose....DCU has world conquering maniacs who will pop up. Every DC character will be in this game

Yes, there always will be quest givers, doesn't mean that's the only way you should ever be able to take new quest.

CO is doing something innovative. While you're doing your job as a hero and beat up some random purse snatcher, the thug might drop some clues, which you then can decide whether you want to investigate it or not, which eventually will lead to a new quest. So while there be random quest givers, you can find quests without someone telling you to do this or that.

which is from every MMO I've ever played. Its in COH. Its in Age of Conan. It's gonna be in DCU

CoH wasnt always going to the main characters and getting a mission... There were newspapers and radios where your character over hears things going on, and you go to stop them. They didnt have to do with the other characters in the game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCW2nS42608&feature=related heres a video in which Superman is directing you to what is going on in the city... like you work for him. Seeing how hes reffering to two missions, and not one, something tells me that this happens whether you go to Superman and ask for a mission or not. So, you're pretty much working for Superman.

As Nathan says, the villains are the same thing, except the other side of the missions. So this says that Lex will replace Superman by saying "i'm trying to destroy the city, Superman is in central park trying to stop me, get here fast."

btw.. i'll laugh my ass off if this is actually in the game

so you are basing the mission mechanics of the whole game on this video....I cant watch it as Im at work spending your hard earned tax dollars talking about video games(smile)...its unrealistic to think that Superman is going to be constantly calling Superferret for favors

Especially considering how unreliable I am.

lol

and no... this video on top of others. Have fun at work... youtube the videos when you get out

i'll see what I can do...I'll take it on faith that one Rhode Islander wont lead another astray

whoa now that i know you're from RI... i'm gunna check under my refrigerator

that video is from the tutorial opening just like in COH you have the infected area to learn how to play in

hey when the last son of Krypton calls you better answer...he knows if you are screening calls...he can see you

Yeah, but ferrets have very short attention spans. A SuperFerret has one that's even shorter. It's astounding that this post is as intelligible as it is. I like ponies.

huh ive been out the loop for a while

Right now there is an entire play of Big Ks in the main DCU, all with roughly the same power as Supes. I doubt any of that crap will be in the game though

If they are, I'd play just for a high level mission where you fight them all.

yeah the montioned that this DCU wont link up with current DCU...Hal is GL, Barry is the Flash and Bruce is the Bat.....no Crisis or Blackest Night yet

It doesn't really matter though that the MMO won't follow the current comics. Anyone who wants to can still be a Superman clone. So we'll probably still end up with hundreds of Supermen.

Whew, gotta stay more in-touch with this thread. Mainly I'd like to say that the whole villain thing really doesn't appeal because its just never as worked on as much as the superhero side. Besides Champions is developed be Cryptic, the same people who made City of Heroes and I'm pretty sure everybody knows the first expansion to City of Heroes. Yes, City of Villains, so believe me it won't be long before Champions has Villains especially in all the money they will be rollin in. I can't tell you how many people I met that have preordered it.

As for you always helping the heroes in CO, I don't know about that, one of the things they said they were working on was a constantly changing world. As in supervillains spring up for players to defeat and the supervillains don't just magically "live forever" so more players can have a go at him. I think one of the things CO will have is the ability to really choose where you go in the game. Although I do like the idea of having a case that is summed up with many missions inside it, and I hope you won't have to continously report back to the person who gave the case to you.

As for the costume thing with Johns I'd say that who cares? The games supposed to be about YOUR designs, not some other famous guy. I think that CO will have an advantage in costumes as it pretty much already has a large costume creator filled with parts available from COH, so I think they'll probably add on to that, giving them an amazingly large assortment of different possiblities of costumes. Having famous people behind your costume design is a pretty stupid point, one of the main fun parts about this game is making your own design out of tons of little parts.

Also I wouldn't agree about all superheroes being scrappers and tankers. What about Xavier and Magneto, can anyone say controller? Then theres Spider-Man, Green Lantern, GALACTUS, and all of those, can anyone say blaster? There are many superhero's that aren't just scrappers and tankers, although I do think the idea of having a healer is pretty stupid, usually healing is just a side power like for example Wolverine and Deadpool.

And roach you didn't get my point, initially DC was supposed to be every player is one of the DC greats which would have been awesome and yes it would have worked because they also said they would have a crap load of servers. I mean yes of course you couldn't get Superman easily, really no one should be able to get Superman that easily. But if DC was going to go with custom characters I would go with Champions because they have more experience in custom characters and seen to focus on it where DC is focusing on how much the DC greats will be in the game. The point is, yes I want custom characters FROM CHAMPIONS, if DC is going to have custom characters instead of being the DC greats then I will goto Champions because honestly Champions is focusing more on the development of you, an all new superhero and not past ones.

Not that its team up on Roach time... but i said the same thing Rail did on the whole "DCU you work for them... CO you work on your own story"

Is it me or is this lifetime subscription just awsome? Do all MMOs start with deals like this?

Ya I don't know about the lifetime subscription, I mean I'm all for playing Champions, but for 2 years? I think even better games are gonna be coming out before 2 years goes by.

DCU is going to be the same way

No Geoff Johns is a writer.Pretty much the guy who revamped DC. Made Flash awesome and is currently working on Green Lantern and wowing people with Blackest Night. He is writing the missions and storyline along with Marv Wolfman who is the legendary writer behind Teen Titans and the one responsible for making Robin become Nightwing...Now as for the costumes you will be able to create your costume as you want. All interviews mention it will be as robust as COH's character creator. All the art for this game will be based on Jim Lee art....so its not Jim Lee making your character..its you making your character drawn by Jim Lee

Also I wouldn't agree about all superheroes being scrappers and tankers. What about Xavier and Magneto, can anyone say controller? Who said that???? Superheroes dont fit into the tanker, scrapper, blaster mode and DCU isnt doing that either

again as I pointed out this would have to be the most expensive game in the history of MMO's if they went that route. In order to fulfill this you'd almost have to give a server to everyone playing the game...but under your rules I cant even be Superman...do I get to pick Batman or Wonderwoman???? What happens when Im stuck with Aquaman or the Wondertwins?????
How is DCU focusing on the already made heroes and not you????
I dont understand where this came from. Yes they are marketing this game as you helping the DC heroes but quite frankley how else were they going to market this game???? The only difference is that DCU has well known heroes and Champions Online doesnt. It comes down to do you want to be in the shadow of Defender or Superman

"C'mon I can take you all on." Optimus Prime, TF2

Why would this be the most expensive? 30 servers isn't hard for a random guy, its easily done with a giant corporation 10 fold. This idea was first told to us at the San Diego Comic-Con 08, but they changed it somewhere in between now and then.

And it should be hard to get Superman, the early bird gets the worm as they always say. Stuck with Aquaman or the Wondertwins maybe yes, you can't satisfy everyone. Also do you know how many heroes/villains there are in DC, believe me you would not have to make a server for every player.
