Chapter 69 - My Brother's Keeper

This show is unbelievable, I actually like Mohinder again! lol. I didnt think it was gonna be possible but the character has become very likeable again with one episode. So far the "Redemption" theme of this season is working.

Yea, that feeling that season one had on me is starting to come back.

Yes. With plots that actually build up to go somewhere and have said plots intertwine after several episodes worth of development.
Piecing things together one at a time...
I really liked the way this episode included most of the different storylines and how they all played off each other. Samuel/Hiro/Mohinder, Nathan/Peter/Sylar/Parkman, etc...
Really good episode.
This formula works WAY better than throwing some stupid twist at you every commercial break in every episode...
So good.

Does anyone one else think it was funny that when Peter touched Nathan(sylar) he got the ability to fly? He should have gotten the Sylar ability or all of them.

Its not suprising at all, Peter can only take 1 ability and he can choose which one, so he took flight so he could follow "Nathan". Its like last season with shapeshifting when he said to Sylar:"bet you didnt think id take that ine did you?"

My only problem is they still haven't addressed the whole Hiro dying thing.

Peter threw away the healing ability (which makes that whole episode with the kid practically pointless) and only healed Parkman. There went any chance of Peter undying the dead Nathan too, So yeah...

And how many times is it that Parkman's been shot?

-edit-

Actually I've got one more problem.

Hiro putting Mohinder in a padded room. Mohinder only needed to be gone for eight weeks. Now if he took Mohinder back with him to the present then VOILA Mohinder will have been gone for eight weeks instantly. But I guess they had to give Mohinder a reason to have a beef with Hiro for a later plot line. Ugh.

Also what about Ando? He hasn't been on in a loooong time.

I wonder now...maybe Samuel was the one who killed his own brother? Sam knew that his brother was trying to hold his power back and he looked pretty pissed about it.

I think that is a given now.

Yeah..that would certainly fit the bill of his 'past transgressions' that he wishes to hide from his family.

I wonder if this is gonna lead to the big ol' rock creature that Issac drew in the first season? (Ideally, it wouldn't REALLY be a rock monster though..that would be kinda dumb)

Peter really has no idea if Hiro will even return or if he is dead already. He's probably not going to keep an ability on the very, very, very slight chance that Hiro teleports into his house again. Hiro is still dying too, it's just that he doesn't care. He's concerned about saving Charlie. No other Hero that knows about his condition is in a position to help him.

Like you said, Peter used the ability to save Parkman and the episode with the kid is what made Tracy start turning to Samuel. 2 reason why that plotpoint was not pointless.

Peter can't perform ressurection. Otherwise Jeremy would have resurrected his dead parents. Noah explained Jeremy's powers and said Jeremy was only able to heal when there was still a sign of life left. Linderman's power operated the same way: can't resurrect the dead.

Did he put Mohinder in a padded room 8 weeks ago or did he take him to the present and put him in a padded room until he was sure Charlie was safe?

Ando has no possibly way to connect to the main plot at the moment. He has no idea where Hiro is. Unless Samuel decides to take a trip to Japan to try to convince him, we're not going to see him until Hiro comes back to alert him.

I was thinking that too, but, then I was thinking, if when Peter took Nathans power, he also got all of Sylar powers, then he can still save Hiro the same way Sylar saved Charlie

If Mohinder was not insane why did he keep repeating himself??

I almost flipped out in my couch 2x, first when Nathan touched Matt, and when Peter took the flying powers, I'm like, Matt got popped up for nothing, and there goes all hope of killing Sylar...

but I must admit this ep was good, finally Mohinder's back, his gf was hot

If you woke up in a mental hospital and the hospital staff called you by a different name, wouldn't you be a little anxious about establishing that you're not who they think you are?

I am missing Ando alot now that I think about it. We need the Crimson Arc back damnit! Hes probably off bonin Keiko or whatever her name is now that they are together. Good for him though I would much rather be off sticking it to Hiros sister than off saving the world

By the same token, Sylar also has empathic mimicry. So why couldn't Pete have taken that one and then BAM! he has them all now. Unless he has to know for certain which one to take when he takes them. Still, big missed opportunity of re-powering the only person who seems to have a shot at taking Sylar down.

I don't think Peter even knows Sylar has empathic mimicry. Arthur and Elle were the only other characters that knew about it and they're dead.

Pretty dumb of him if Peter doesn't know after saying "Bet you didn't think I'd take that one."

Peter knew Sylar had shape shifting because he knew Sylar used it to impersonate Nathan. There is nothing that indicates Peter knows Sylar has empathic mimicry.

He said that line because he knew Sylar would have assumed Peter touching him in the middle of combat meant he absorbed a combat effective power.

Plus, Peter would be more dumb if he did know it after saying that because if he knew Sylar had Empathic Mimicry he could have gotten that and used it to Shape shift. And if he was concerned about not being able to control it, he could have taken it from Sylar after he knocked him out with a syringe.

Very good points. But considering the original manifestation of his modified ability and how he was able to absorb without knowing, I think it's possible that given the time he could "scan" through the powers of a person with multiple (like Sylar in this case). Could just be speculation (or even wishful thinking on my part) though as it still seems that the writers are reluctant to restore Peter to his S1 power levels.

Why would Peter be dumb ? Even if he took Sylars Empathy he would still lose it the next time he touches someone with an ability

Well, he wouldn't necessarily lose the empathy. For the most part, we've seen Peter be able to choose when he takes a person's ability or not.
The only example that shows otherwise that I can think of, is when he saves Emma from the bus and he accidentally absorbs her power because his natural empathy is high.
For example, when he touched Samuel in episode 3, he did not take his power.

I think Peter was able to prepare himself more for a handshake with Samuel. He was probably too anxious to save Emma from that bus to prepare himself in case she had an ability. For the most part it looks like Peter has control but it looks like the control can slip if caught of guard.

But it might be Empathy-related. We'll see.

Peter with S1 and S2 power levels is essentially the most powerful character on Heroes. Even Sylar can't stand up to him. It doesn't matter how many powers Sylar accumulates, you can't beat time travel, telepathy, and regeneration. It's hard to write stories for a character like that without making everyone else useless. I'm guessing he might get empathy, but it'll probably be before the series finale or his death.

This is a good point. It's been a decade or so since I personally bought a comic book, but even in that realm, there'd only be a few superpowered characters that can beat that combo. That's not even including the abilities Peter gained from his brother and the radioactive man. Not to mention invisibilty.

I know it's OT, but since this thread is slow anyhow, can anyone name any character, comics or otherwise that would beat Peter's S1 combo of:
  • Healing/Regen
  • Telekinesis
  • Mind Reading/Control
  • Flight
  • Time Manipulation
  • Teleportation
  • Invisibility
...if he had complete training and control of these abilities?
(I have a feeling this question has been asked before, but hey.)
