The Dark Knight Rises Character Juggling

if all goes well, we'll see decent character development and a rational way to tie them all into the conflict while still being about the batman, and the crazy guy in the mask

i'm hoping bane isn't working for the LoS, but he probably is (although the mob thought mr. j was working for them, and we know how that worked out for them)
and hopefully we don't end up with an overly heroic catwoman...
she fits best as a "chaotic neutral" for me...

ra's should comeback, because he's is immortal (even if just illusionarily{which may or maynot be a real word})

this mirranda/talia thing is iffy...meaning that it could work quite well, or it could be a little silly... and i really hope there's no hinting at damian

but that is a lot of stuff to pull off, and requires a lot of fleshing out... and for what will be the biggest movie of the summer/year (we allllll know it will be)

if nolan slips up even a little the fanboy rage will be fanboy wrath!

!!and i did enjoy tdk, it just wasn't what i hoped it would be
and i really dislike some of the things it caused
and imaginaruim did poorly cuz it was a wierdo artsy film which never do great in bigdumbunitedstates

Just because it looks complicated on paper doesn't mean it IS complicated. Nolan's juggled multiple characters, and multiple villains before. Not worried in the least.

Oh, so this thread isn't about fighting game strategy?

*backs away slowly*

Well, he has, but as I've said, he's never juggled three main villains before. And even when he has juggled multiple villains, there have been times when some of the villains get the short end of the stick (Scarecrow).

What you posted seems about right. It'll likely be a good movie, maybe even a great one that's the best of the trilogy, but one of the characters will definitely come up short.

I don't mind though. I don't need drawn out development to enjoy a character's presence.

3 supposedly main villains (Bane for sure, Catwoman could be a wild card, and "Tate" could be undercover most of the film) does not automatically lead to each villain getting the same amount of screentime.

Each character can have their role in the film and be as effective as the story needs them to be, and still be consider a main or major villain, but not be on the screen a whole lot, or even the same amount of time. And even if each villain was on screen for the same amount of time (say 25 minutes each), it's most certainly overlapping screentime as each villain, and every other character in the film for that matter, are weaved into the plot in the same way the others were in Nolan's previous films.

I understand the complaint against Scarecrow but I personally didn't have a huge problem with that. Sure, we didn't get the Scarecrow that we got in Arkham Asylum, but what we got, for all the screentime he did have, was a pretty effective supporting villain that was a legitimate threat and helped usher in this new breed of criminal.

Again, this isn't something that I'm terribly worried about. Nolan doesn't classify villains or characters in superhero films in the same way that other directors do, and I'm glad for it.

General Volcun, Man of Steel is coming out in 2013 bro.

I agree with you in terms of how Nolan classifies his villains. And to be honest, I still think we'll get a good movie, but I'm more worried that we'll get a good movie yet one of the three main villains won't be developed as well as they could (or should) be.

For example, my biggest complaint of TDK is the way Two-Face was utilized. He's a character that has much more potential then what he was given. (Again, talking about Two-Face here, not Harvey Dent). However, the film nerd in is okay with what they did. TDK is a great movie. I can see why Nolan used Two-Face how he did, how it reflected the themes of the film, I get all that. But the comic book fan in me will always be unsatisfied with how Nolan decided to use Two-Face.

I'd rather not have that happen again. I mean, obviously I'm not going to be unhappy with a great movie, but if I had my druthers, I'd like to have a great movie and feel that all the main villains were used to their full potential.

Selina & Bane need more development than Talia IMO. Part of Talia's backstory/development is in fact she's a member of the League of Shadows and is Ra's daughter. You kinda have an idea of who she is, what's she's about and her motives. I am hoping to see Bane developed a lot more and not just be a mindless aberration like before. I can see Selina definitely having the Harvey Dent/Two-Face arc. She starts out good, and slowly descends into being Cat-woman.

Well, I think Talia could have more to offer then a generic revenge plot. But if I had to choose between her or Catwoman getting more screen time, I'd go with Catwoman in a second.
