Child 44

I hope the editing gets fixed. Sounds like the movie is salvageable, at any rate. This has been one of my most anticipated films so I'm praying it all comes together.

I hope that guy is either exaggerating or was expecting something else. The book is phenomenal and the cast is exceptional so it would be pretty shocking if its a total misfire. I've been really looking forward to this. I'll admit I never expected the movie to be as good as the book because very few adaptations are, I just hope its a solid film at the least.

^Agreed, I find it hard to believe they screwed the book up so much, but its happened with many great books in the past unfortunately.

I really hope they can get it together with this movie as I am a big fan of the books.

^Damn, thought it was coming out this year?

Oh well, gives them more time to polish the movie up I suppose. I just hope they can make it as good as possible.

Given what the screening reviewer said about it needing a lot of editing and polishing, I'd rather they take their time and make it as good as it can be.

If they screwed it up on script level, I doubt the editing can help much. Maybe they will do some re-shots too.

^I think there will be re-shoots. That guy did say there was a good movie in there somewere, I really hope they can find it as I am huge fan of the books.

Considering the source material and the cast, it would be a huge shame if this somehow got all mucked up in production.

The same guy who saw an advance screening and said it was a mess also said Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace, and Gary Oldman gave really good performances and that it had a lot of untapped potential, so I really hope they get it straightened out.

^Me too, the book is superb, and though the 2nd and 3rd books arent AS good as the 1st, they are still good in their own right, so I would like to see them made.

Well, the bad news is it did get pushed back a lot. The goods news is that it wasn't dumped in Jan/Feb which suggests they do have confidence in it, April is a strong month.

Just finished the book in anticipation of the movie and...:wow: holy ****! It was incredible. I can see where this could go wrong in editing if the script didn't condense the book's narrative. The book is filled with nuance and suspense, it would be very difficult to cover everything in 2-2.5 hours. Still praying this ends up good though! I recommend everyone to read the book!

The book is superb, all 3 of them were great, but neither sequel matched the first book, for me anyway.

Apparently Tom Rob Smith saw it awhile ago and liked it a lot, this interview was taken in August.

With regards to the movie of CHILD 44, I actually saw it recently for the first time, and it’s sensational. The love story is incredibly powerful and moving, the whole movie is beautifully directed, and there are some amazing sequences. The cast really couldn’t be any better, in my view.

That's reassuring! Hopefully the final cut is solid, they've had sooo much time to edit this thing.

It would really be a shame for an adaptation of a great book starring the likes of Hardy and Oldman was anything less than good.

^It would, TRS liking it though gives me more confidence that it will actually be good. If it is good and makes a profit, I hope they make the other 2 as well. Could be a really good trilogy.

YESSSSS. I need to see something! And I really like that poster. :) Hopefully the trailer hits in the next week.

Trailer is confirmed to be releasing this week.

Official synopsis:

A politically-charged serial killer thriller set in 1953 Soviet Russia, “Child 44” chronicles the crisis of conscience for secret police agent Leo Demidov (Tom Hardy), who loses status, power and home when he refuses to denounce his own wife, Raisa (Noomi Rapace), as a traitor. Exiled from Moscow to a grim provincial outpost, Leo and Raisa join forces with General Mikhail Nesterov (Gary Oldman) to track down a serial killer who preys on young boys. Their quest for justice threatens a system-wide cover-up enforced by Leo’s psychopathic rival Vasil (Joel Kinnaman), who insists “There is no crime in Paradise.”
