The level of prejudice, intolerance and hypocrisy of the Hype somehow never ceases to amaze me. :csad:

who's being hypocritical here?

You could call it that, I suppose. I prefer to look at it as a put-off to someone I know from experience it's simply not worth my effort to bother attempting any serious explaination. :)

Again, there's good and bad in EVERY activity children are involved in.

If your kid plays sports are you going to teach them how to hurt their opponent and do anything to win? There are parents who start doing that when kids are 3-4 years old.

You have to remember that there was likely an 'agenda' for that documentary. I highly doubt it was an 'unbiased' look.

Some of it was truth because I later heard about them again in another news station, one mother spent thousands of $$$ on costumes and beauty parlar she had to steal to furnish her daughter pageant another one is a idiot father and mother who sold their home to pay expensive lessons and clothers so their daughters can get the best look and care  Sure some can be biased but not all, that show was a eye opener showing the dark side, I was really put off how they dressed up their daughters in revealing clothes and telling them to be sexy. The kid was barely 7 years old

If the child wants to do it, I don't see anything wrong about it. But if the parents are constantly pushing and stressing the damn kid out about it...then there is a serious problem.

Don't worry your pretty little head about it. You wouldn't understand. :)

So, what name are you going to use to resign on to the Hype?

I don't think that the idea is wrong if people are comfortable with comparisons/uber-competitive parents. Still, what it leads to is disturbing. People already mentioned the sexually suggestive dance routines, the need for a mature appeal, and other things that seem to be a little too much for young girls.

Too often, it appears as if the line between beauty and sexual attraction is blurred in these type of events(for kids and for adults) - by the parents who want to display the contestant w/ a more seductive look, and by the judges who often rank on that type of criteria - and it's kind of frightening to think about what kind of unsavory people are also viewing these things.
(Morg made a really good point earlier; there are a lot of pervs out there.)

I didn't say that it was false.

I'm saying that out of the millions of kids and their parents who participate in these things they chose to highlight a few of the 'bad eggs'. You, for instance, gave three examples.

How about if a show was made with the premise that being deaf was an absolutely HORRIBLE thing and that deaf people couldn't live productive, happy lives... and as 'evidence' they followed 12 deaf people who all ended up either as drug addicts, in prision or committed suicide and showed them to be representative of the deaf community as a whole. Would that be a fair picture of the deaf community? No. It would be biased. What I'm saying is that this is a very similar thing. They showed a few of the negative examples as being representative of the whole.

In the same way a few deaf people who have unhappy lives doesn't mean all deaf people do, the few 'bad eggs' of child beauty pagents are not representative of the whole. What it means that the people who made the show had wanted viewers and what better way to do it than to highlight those things that sensationalize and 'grab' the viewer. The TV news wanted to do the exact same thing. It's not about truly informing people... it's about 'ratings' and 'standings'.

The parents are living out their failed dreams vicariously through their children.

Translation... you're one of the hypcrites, but being one, you'd never agree, so it's pointless for me to argue with you. :)

explain to me how i'm a hypocrite about child beauty pageants? i've never had anything to do with them.

trust me, you deserve to be called out. i'm still waiting for my apology from months ago when you acused me of something i didn't do, threatened to ban me when i tried to explain myself, and then didn't apologize to me when i proved you wrong.

it would only prove my point if she banned me for something so small.
