Child Beauty Pageants: Right or Wrong?

The opinion that little girls in beauty pageants are ****es. Nice opinion

Hey sinewave, raped anyone lately?

kd, enough.

I appreciate your comments and support, but it's just not worth getting yourself in trouble over. :)

i already explained what i meant, you're taking the term "****e" too literally. and no, i haven't raped anyone in over a week.

^Haha, well let's aim for two weeks, shall we.

As for the topic; most girls I know that were in pageants as children turned out to be quite superficial, shallow, and materialistic.

It takes all kinds. They may have been that way regardless of whether they participated or not. You don't know. There are about 250,000 kids that participate in pagaents every year. They're as varied in their personalities and characters as any group of 250,000 people that chooses to participate in an activity.

I will say, though, that there are other girls who you simply just may not know that they participated. I rarely make mention of it. I did here because it was the topic, but of people I've known from HS onward (we moved when I started HS so no one in my new town knew that I'd done pagaents and modelling as a child), I can count the people I've ever mentioned it to on one hand... and I know I'm not alone in that.

Most of my female cousins participated in pageants at some point or another and they don't bring it up either. And they're all incredibly nice women.

There's just so many other things that have happened since then that are more important in our lives. Most them are wives and mothers. Some of us had other ablities and talents we developed (acting, music, athletics, academics). We've all been to college. Some of us have graduate degrees. We've travelled all over the world. At this point it's such a minor footnote in our lives, it's just not something that, except in very specific circumstances, comes up in conversation.

Anyone else feel seriously sickened by these types of people?

To Cania with my sympathy, is mom entering the girl in a BBG pagent?

...to answer the original question, I believe child beauty pageants are wrong. Toddlers & Tiaras should be pulled from the air and the parents should be arrested for child abuse or something.

100% agree

Yeah I think these kind of things is wrong too, seeing all those little girls wearing make up, eyelashes etc is just so very VERY wrong.

Child beauty pageants are disgusting & nothing short of child exploitation. TLC & any other channel airing this garbage should know better.

It's pretty terrible

I think they're awful. They suck away the important things in life and just leave the stupid.

Wrong, wrong and thrice wrong.

The parents should be ashamed of themselves and possibly prosecuted for child abuse.

I don't like them, but it's not much different than a lot of insane things that kids do (full contact hockey, football for boys at a young age) so let them have it. For American subcultures who don't believe in higher education, what better lesson can there be for young girls to learn than that you can achieve financial awards off of your body and appearance.

That's because they're raised by superficial, shallow, and materialistic parents who don't give a **** about their children.

My personal feeling about child beauty pageants.

The mothers are soo hideously out of their prime that they force their 5 yr old girls to dress up like they used to when they were 21-25 just so they can live vicariously through them in some morally twisted way.

Until the day these girls actually turn 21 and realize they've been raised all their lives to assume image and appearance take precedence over personality and an ability to think for themselves. The moms will slowly watch their "little girls" turn to stripping/becoming escorts or even worse, "ladies of the night".

I hate every bit of these mothers and think they epitomize the very essence of whats wrong with the world.

Thats my rant.

moms letting their lil kids do this is awful
