Chloe Comes to Comics

the reason they brought supergirl to smallville.
Because she's a crappy character, or because TV is a crappy medium? 'Cause I definitely don't agree with the latter. I think television has some pretty horrendous shows, and the WGA strike aint helping matters by forcing networks to air even more brain-dead reality fare, but TV can be just as entertaining and enjoyable as film, perhaps even more so since it's beamed into our living rooms 24/7. What the networks and cable providers choose to air, and what people choose to watch is a whole nutha argument. LOL ;)

I don't read comics anyway so it doesn't affect me but I wonder if she will be a guest character or if she will stay as a supporting one in the comics.

she's the new female Jimmy olsen from the sounds of things, how ironic.

That will probably depend on how well she is received. If they get a really good response, and it's reflected in sales, they might have her pop in more often. We'll just have to see how it goes. :D

smallville supergirl is not that bad, its just ..........

Ooo! Have you been following along? I'm only up to ish #667 - I haven't been to the comic store in a few weeks. [hangs head in shame] LOL

Look at the expression on Superman on the page just before the centerfold with the staples. Upper left hand corner - the quote says "What... are you saying?" It so reminds me of SV Clark with his crinkly forehead and expressive eyebrows. LOL Yeah, I know, wrong thread, but I just thought I'd mention it.

Anyway... insect queen. Sounds silly but fun. Anything to get past Zatanna is fine by me. :p :D LOL

No, I actually don't keep up with individual comics, but I do want to read that particular storyline.

Oh, okay. Well we can yack about it in the comic thread here when it comes out. :)

This is basically like bring Batman onto smallville who under the mask is John Roberto. Whats the point of bringing chloe into the comic books(besides a lame attempt to sale more books). The majority of the chloe traits from the show cant be brough to the comic book. She cant help superman since hes got the damn justice league(who needs her when you got batman and his guys). Cant be a love interest for anyone but jimmy(who is kinda busy with final crisis). Oh and she learns some superhero identities. Big whup final crisis will be right around the corner. So what the hell is the character gonna do in the comics? Act like she can be important when she wont.
Chloe can work if they bring Conner back as planned during or after FC (Final Crisis) other then that there is no point for to be there unless they do in fact kill Jimmy off because Jimmy will be to old to date Chloe so that would not work since Chloe is what 19 or 20 on SV and Jimmy is about 27 or 28 since Clark and Lois are in their early to mid 30's. So as I said before if they stick with the plain they originally had for Chloe and bring her over to Conner's series once they bring him back then she would work if she stays in the Superman books then it will be very short lived because she'll be forced upon fans and go from semi liked to hated.

That will probably depend on how well she is received. If they get a really good response, and it's reflected in sales, they might have her pop in more often. We'll just have to see how it goes. :D
Thats why I say SV fans better start picking up the issues with her in it because right now the reaction to her being in the comics is not going over to well.

honestly, a little bit of both. TV has a lot of crappy stuff and supergirl is a crappy character. There's crap everywhere.

Supergirl is only a crappy character because that is how she is written in the comics. Although SV didn't have to adapt that version of her.

Do you mean the overall reaction from the general public or the reaction from smallville fans?

Even a lot of Chloe fans are not that excited for the simple reason that the comics' version is different from the one they know in SV. Most comic book readers don't give a crap about her, so after the usual hype, comics' Chloe will be forgotten as a background lame character.

Do you mean the overall reaction from the general public or the reaction from smallville fans?
Overall reaction to her coming to the comics right now is not good because most people just see her as a broke Lois Lane or Barbra Gordon. So if SV fans want to see Chloe stick around in the comics they need to start buying the issues because with out their support and the fans complaining to Kurt she won't last long unless Kurt can make her really really really really likable.

That's interesting. I didn't know the general reaction was negative or indifferent.

General reaction right now for those who care to respond is most either hate the idea or think it is something that should not be done. The reason being is for how Chloe is written on the TV series mainly to be like Lois Lane until Lois finally came now she is more Babs Gordon like which still doesn't work for here. I think it is a good idea since Kurt has said she will not be like the Chloe from the series but most people just see the name Chloe and freak out or role their eyes. IMO they should have a better way to work Chloe into the comics then how they are doing. When they worked Superman II and Superman Returns into the comics (new Superman costume, FOS, Zod, Usra, Nod, Jason/Christopher Kent, Jor-El, Krypton, SR Daily Planet and city, etc) they used IC,52,Up, Up, and Away, Last Son, and used Donner to make that work and it went over well with the fans because it didn't come off as forced there was a big lead up to all these things but this is coming off more forced then anything.

DC Comics coming with even more crappy ideas. What is this like there motto since 05?

Welcome to the world of entertainment. But that was my point: TV as a medium is an awesome thing. The technology is far from "crappy." But the selection of entertainment offered within that medium is up for debate - just like it is with film, books, compact discs, etc.

Bringing this topic back to where it started, having a proprietary character jump from one medium to another says more about the popularity of that character than the medium to which the character goes. Furthermore, slamming television as a crappy medium when comics themselves began as "pulp" fiction because of the cheap paper stock used is pretty darn funny.

It's the same argument for TV vs. film actors. Talent is not defined by the medium in which he/she is known, but luck comes into play quite a bit. LOL

FWIW, I have no idea what the hell he's talking about. Comic Book Resources, Newsarama, DC Comics. Other than the same people complaining about "mary sue" characterizations, it's not a bad reception at all. Most seem to be enthused because it's Busiek writing. There are people who are indifferent as well as both lovers and haterz of SV commenting. Some folks don't watch SV and don't know who Chloe is. Others say she's the best character on the entire show. Other than the Lois comparisons, I've yet to see a wall of complaints from people citing Spider-Man or SR references. Maybe one person used the analogy, I dunno. I didn't see it. Somebody on one of those boards did joke about when the comics might bring in Nuclear Man from SIII. Hah! That was funny. :D

I tend to place more stock in posts from people who are regular contributors to the boards on which they frequent (i.e. - somebody with more than five posts in their history and who didn't just register yesterday). I also don't count posts from the *same* user(s) who post to various boards with the same opinion cut and pasted multiple times. Reference the "mary sue" arguments. Twenty posts from the same user on three different boards doesn't a negative general opinion make.

Anyhoo... I got more gifts to wrap. I hate this time of the year. Bah, humbug. LOL :p ;) :D

Where are you getting this feedback? Because the two big comic news sites (ie Newsarama, CBR) are nothing but positive overall.

Yeah what Pat said.

lol@ the idiot in one of the forums suggesting they bring Veronica Mars into the Superman universe instead. I hope drops a wireless radio in the tub the next time he takes a bath.

The feedback is the same Pat people either don't like the idea or think it is wrong to mix the comic and the show. You have a few like me who think it is a good idea but most don't like it or thinks it shouldn't be done. Now going off of how you judge who is a regular then yeah the outcome is different but if that was the case going by that role there a lot of things would change as well because with the way you view posters then thats like going to IESB and any other SV forum and saying you guys vote doesn't count because I've seen you post in another forum. Be it that may be the same poster or a poster who just came aboard to post what he thinks right now it is not swinging in Chloe's favor. Point being right now Chloe coming into the comics has a very mixed reaction and it is not good unless you are a fan of SV.

Oh and to clear something up my SR reference was into how you guys (a lot of SV fans) viewed SR and SR in general is how comic fans view this. Now SR in the comics is another story and if you want to see the reaction to that you have to go back a year and to early this year to see that.

Wait? So TV is a medium for crappy characters? Is that why they brought Supergirl to SV?

no! Good characters move between mediums like TV, comics and movies. The influence of crappy characters should only infect one like chloe and smallville.

DC Comics coming with even more crappy ideas. What is this like there motto since 05?

'DC comics repeating what they did in the silver age!'

Is their motto since 2003 i believe!

I swear the damn money I invested in 52 and Countdown and its spinoffs.....this Final Crisis better worth something.

Thank God for Sinestro Corps

Does anyone else think Superman on that cover looks kinda Wellingish?

Maybe him and Chloe will be likenesses.

They can't use Chloe's likeness they didn't pay for that right. Which is way the only thing related to SV will be the name and that she is Lois cousin and wants to be a reporter. Everything else is being changed.
