A lot of wrestling fans seem to wonder why make this? It isn't being made for wrestling fans. The movie is going to be an indictment of the exploitative nature of the wrestling industry. Most likely, and particularly, Vince Machmon.

I hated professional wrestling before, so I don't need this movie to tell me that. I do wonder where an audience will be.

The same people who watched The Wrestler.

Seriously, the theatre I saw the movie was packed, and only 10% were identifiable wrestling fans. The other 90% was a total NPR/New York Times crowd.

Like Pink Ranger said, "The Wrestler" was not made for a wrestling crowd. If this movie is a serious drama like that one then its for the critical crowd.

When I saw Black Swan last year, I don't think there were that many ballerinas in the audience:o

When I saw King's Speech, there were very few British monarchs in the audience. And when I saw Social Network, it's not like they were any internet nerds in the ... damn it!

But this film's subject seems kind of heavy handed and exploitative (wrestling is bad and we'll prove it by talking about a double murder/suicide from five years ago). It may turn off the NPR/NYT crowd. It is also going to be an attack on WWE, so I doubt many fans will show up. Call me skeptical.

Cast Listing

Nothing, this movie would be a giant waste of time. This guy is a stupid murderer who didn't appreciate what he had. End of story.

Ill see it if its done tastfully. If its a flat out screw the wrestling business for steroids exploit then Ill pass. I want to see a film showing the decline of a man and what he went through mentally, form having it all to taking it all away in one weekend. That kind of stuff interest me, kind of reminds me not to take for granted what I have. I still believe Benoit had alot of brain trauma from head shots and concussions through the years that contributed to his murderering and death.

It depends how it's done. To be honest, I felt Black Swan was as close to an exploitative snuff film as I've ever seen among Oscar contenders, but people seem to call it art, so the Chris Benoit story could be handled the same way.

Everyone saying this movie can't or shouldn't be done, or that it isn't an interesting story is a damn fool. Talented filmmakers can make a worthwhile film about absolutely any subject. Koyaanisqatsi, for example, is a film with no discernible narrative thread that is considered a masterpiece. A celebrity muder-suicide is a wealth of material that plenty of inspired writers and directors may be able to turn into cinematic gold. The mere fact that you're all posting in this thread is evidence enough that the subject matter is interesting and worthy of its own movie.

Also, Dennis Quaid as Vince McMahon would be Oscar worthy.

This is kinda off topic but while we are talking about Vince McMahon how many people have been to a WWE live event (like Monday Night Raw) and seen him in person? I swear that crazy strut/ walk he does when he comes out is hilarious! I mean its funny looking on TV but is on a whole other level of funny when you see him do it up close and personal. Here is a youtube video of it for people that don't know what I am talking about.

I was a fan of his and I've always loved knowing about the wrestling business and wrestler's personal lives..But as a movie buff I have mixed feelings about this cause it just depends on everything from accuracy/direction/tone/cast/acting etc and so it could be a great drama But also a totally off missed opportunity!!

Some has mentioned that he used his submission finisher to kill his wife&kid!?I know that he choked them But when was it revealed that he did his wrestling move on them?

He did not use his finisher on his wife or kid. It's just a bogus rumor; a rumor that's ridiculous to even imagine.

Like Lunar_Wolf said, its a bogus rumor. The was just news outlets speculating about how he killed his family.

This movie could be very interesting if it was about how the business of wrestling destroyed a man's life, drove him crazy, destroyed his body, and led him to do something absolutely unspeakable.

But, the fact that the company making the movie refers to it as a thriller based on true events makes me think they're approaching this from a very exploitative direction.

Out of curiousity I picked up the book from my library. I read the first chapter, I don't think I'm gonna bother finishing it.

Randazzo writes like an over the top caricature of those full-of-it advocates who say videogames are brainwashing the youth. I can pretty much summarize that chapter in three words.

"Wrestling is Evil!"

He paints the wrestling industry (not just the WWE) as a mafia operation and pretty much flat out states that anyone wishing to pursue a career as a wrestler is an idiot, and that Beniot was a fool for wanting to be the best wrestler on the card.
