Ultimate Green Goblin (or mutated Green Goblin overall) is my greatest fear of this series. I can see things that tell for it happening, and things that tell against it.
For:
- The genetics things.
- The Ultimate comics seem to be the bigger source for this series.
- They'd want to be different from Raimi's version.
Against:
- It's stupid.
- The Ultimate version isn't very popular.
- Cross-species don't really explain pointy ears and stuff like that (unless they cross him with a rabbit...).
- It would be a repeat of having a green monster as the villain.
- The 616 version is too iconic.
- Not having a suit and mask closes doors for many cool things and really kills one huge part of Norman Osborn's character (see: it's stupid).
Idk if its just me, but while I love the choice of CC as Norman, I still can't picture him as the actual Goblin and in fight sequences. Because of this personal belief, I thought: what if he doesn't actually ever become GG, but instead FORCES another villain to kill Gwen. So he wouldn't directly do it, but would still be held responsible and the focus of Peter's rage and remain his main enemy
Not saying I want this, but if they were trying to differentiate from the first series while somewhat keeping the original essence, I could potentially see this as a possibility

Same pressure you all put on getting Venom into SM3, just do it in reverse. Fans were begging Sam Raimi and couldn't let go of mentioning Venom, until Avi Arad got wind of it, saw dollar signs and started whispering that the fans wanted Venom in Raimi's ear. What pressure?
Venom was without question forced upon Raimi, he hated the character, and said "Venom Is For Squares!" Most fans didn't like the new suit and guess what happened, it got changed. Sony and Avi Arad keeps close to SHH!, especially Sony execs. All I'm saying is, there should be a "We Don't Want Ultimate Comics' mutated Green Goblin" in every TASM forum.I think you're reading too much into Sony forcing Venom on Raimi. Nobody knows exactly how that went down or how much Sony may monitor fans input. I really doubt fans have that much input with Sony and Webb. They might keep an ear out for what's popular or what's like, but I doubt they're going to change things solely based on what a handful of people ask for on a fansite.

But what if some of us DO want ultimate Goblin?
Then there is a special place in hell for you.![]()
May I ask why you would prefer a generic Hulk ripoff with little originality over a version with an actual personality and interesting character traits that has left a big impact in comics overall?
The only way I'd feel comfortable with an USM style goblin is if he's NOT a hulking monster. If the Goblin persona is an actual physical manifestation, I'd want it to be an ugly side effect of the serum he hopes will cure his illness - he doesn't hulk out and shoot fireballs - it actually disfigures him (something like what Oscorp posted on the last page). This would be a believable cause of his psychosis - he's torn between being "normal" but sick, and being "hideous" but powerful. The outfit would become less of a "costume" and more of a way to try and hide the disfigurement (or embrace it, depending on how you want to look at it).
I'd prefer they don't go with a physical transformation, but the above is what I'd be okay with if they do go that route.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. If they go that route, it HAS to be permanent. A permanent disfigurement that drives him insane.
Nope, he'll pretty much look like The Lizard II without a tail and full bleed CGI.The only way I'd feel comfortable with an USM style goblin is if he's NOT a hulking monster. Are you saying that's what you think they will do, or are you ignoring my reference to Oscorp's image from the last page?Nope, he'll pretty much look like The Lizard II without a tail and full bleed CGI.
I think if they go the Ultimate Comics GG route, he's going to be huge, throwing fireballs and look half like Cooper and part goblin in just his face. Fully CGI most of the time. It'll be a mess. Are you saying that's what you think they will do, or are you ignoring my reference to Oscorp's image from the last page?
If they go the transform/disfigured route, I'd want it to be subtle like that CG image Oscorp posted. They wouldn't need to make him CG, just some make up. GG shouldn't be a big, hulking character, so I don't get why you think it'd be Lizard 2.0.
Heh, if they DO go that route, I'm sure they can make it look good. That won't change my opinion that USM goblin is stupid and they shouldn't use that version, though.I think if they go the Ultimate Comics GG route, he's going to be huge, throwing fireballs and look half like Cooper and part goblin in just his face. This series has and will continue to be about genetics which is why UGG makes sense even if it's not ideal, a twist where the audience thinks it's a mutation but it turns out to be a costume would be my choice though
let's wait and see what happens though, it's not impossible to tell a fantastic story with a transformin' norman.
