Maybe I am the only one that can see it. I have wanted Steve Carell since I heard about this reboot. He has always been my first choice. But yeah, remember the reaction to Heath Ledger as the Joker?

Obviously, Carell will never be the Goblin, but it is fun to think about.

I want serum-powered, but it can change his face and body into something more Goblin-like as a side-effect. Not the Hulking USM Goblin, but looking like the traditional Goblin.

Carrell could be a very inspired choice for Norman in the same way that Ledger was an inspired choice. It goes against the grain of the character archetype. I remember when TDK was announced and everyone wanted Crispin Glover as the Joker because he was "creepy" and bore a great physical resemblance to the comic book drawings. Now, with Cooper, (who I'm sure will be fine) we get a stereotypically "creepy"/menacing looking guy who has a history of playing abusive, neglectful fathers.

Carrell could turn in a fantastic performance- if people couldn't take him seriously because of his comedic films, that's on them.

Not THAT inspired considering Carell was once considered for the TDK Joker role. Which would have been just as ridiculous as him as Norman would be. It has nothing to do with the look. He could be either successfully looks-wise perhaps. It's just he has not once proven (to me at least) that he has acting chops outside of the awkward comedic style he does so well. Especially can't see him being pure evil haha.

I saw Carell as a funny and charismatic Norman who was warm and father like to his boys, Harry and Peter, but cold, and sociopathic at heart. Not caring about these kids, but really just trying to keep his public image and to groom Harry, and later, Peter as a successor. He would eventually start giving Pete more love, as Harry falls into drug abuse, making Harry hate Peter and desperately want Norman's approval.

As the Goblin, a cackling, joking, fist fighting villain who employs dirty tricks and clever traps. An evil analog to Spider-Man.

I'd be down with that, I guess. I just want something that resembles the classic Goblin.

I agree with Whiskey Tango.

If they have to adopt the Ultimate Spiderman (comic) look, that would be fine, as long as he is intelligible, and not uttering gibberish. It worked for the comic book, but I want to see a mutated person with cunning (the Jekyll/Hyde characterization worked well for ASM - Ifans knocked it out of the park - but, it is time, as the meme above has said, to go to formula.

Carell has range, it's just that he gets a lot of roles fitting his persona. He is outstanding on The Office, Anchorman, or anything I've seen him in really.

Eh.... I say somewhere inbetween.

A Goblin that's considerably more muscular than the 616 version, but is the same height and isn't nearly as hulking as the USM Goblin

An alternative would be to have Goblin appear similar to how Blonsky did TIH after taking the super soldier formula. His body and frame we're regular but you could see his muscles and bones bulging under his skin, giving him a very creature-esque look that worked with the enhanced abilities he displayed (which are similar to what Goblin has).

Both routes would work for a transformation angle.

I said it was better than the transformation. The version you posted is based off the comics 616 character which is another costume version.

Also, while that cgi might be good, I can't help but feel that any film adaptation that tackles GG should forget about the Smurf hat and purse. That look just wouldn't translate to the screen that well.
