Church and State?

o and also... the only 2 religions i know of at least that use force and the "my religion is the one true one" seems to be christian beliefs and islamic... (sorry if i got the islamic one wrong, but buhdism and hinduism are both very peaceful and seem to care less about being right or not

That's the way I see it too. I'm certain it's not true for everyone (or even most) in both faiths, but they seem to be the loudest.

its just seems less about love and more about fear

*pictures the movie saved! and mandy moores character... "I'M FULL OF CHRISTS LOVE!" *throws the bible at the girl*

Religion, under no circumstance, should ever be entered into the federal government, especially the United States government, which does not recognize one religion over another. Say what you will about the Founders intending the United States to be a Christian nation, but the fact of the matter is, this country has evolved, and so have the religious demographics. As long as one person believes in something else, this country has an obligation to abide by the Constitution, which formally separates church from state. So no Ten Commandments outside of courthouses, no God in the pledge of allegiance, no "intelligent design" or pro-creationist teachings in biology classes... none of it is justified, nor is it necessary.

and i can't stand that I can't get married because "christians" think Christianity came up with marriage soo since most don't believe 2 men together are sinful, i cant get married.

whatever "so-called" Christian that thinks Christianity came up with marriage is a fool.
Marriage was an institution created by God. Not by his followers. I believe the MAIN problem with Christianity is that we have a LOT (if not an inordinate majority) who don't even know what they are reading or believing. These people haven't even cracked open a bible nor taken the time to seek out proper translations to gain a better and deeper understanding of what has been written and how it applies to them personally.

I take it from your post you are gay. In my opinion, gay should marry. Let them be miserable like everyone else :woot:
but seriously, i believe they should marry, God may not "recognize" that marriage according to Gods plan, but hey, thats between them/you and God. We'll all find out in the end won't we?

people need to learn to seperate what effects others from there religion. It's called respect.

no, its called being educated and not ignorant. I studied apologetics and have an decent understanding of world faiths. I respect a lot of them and admire them for what they are attempting to do because like I said in another post...Truth is TRUTH regardless of the source.

I find it interesting that a lot of Christians are so intent on getting things like religion in schools and stuff, and yet are the same ones who are considered conservative and speak of American values and all of that. I thought the main point of this country, and thus the most cherished American value of all, was supposed to be freedom of religion and just the simple fact that this country was for everybody, Americans were from everywhere and believed many, many different things. I guess I got it wrong somewhere.

I'm not even bashing anyone in this thread or Christians really, other than the ones who push for things like religion in schools and such things that contradict the same American values they so deeply cherish.

I suppose this is more to do with politics than religion though.

I see not legally letting gays marry as the same thing as when they use to not let blacks and white marry. It's just another form of racism.

The biggest argument I hear against it is that it would violate the sanctity of marriage because marriage is between a man and woman. But how sacred can marriage be if a man and woman who don't love each other can get married and divorced anytime they want, as many times as they want? Hell, a gay man and straight woman can get married. I wouldn't be surprised if a gay man and gay woman could get married. But somehow letting two men or two women who love each other get married is wrong?

If God has a problem with it, he'll sort it out in the end. Until then, what right do any of us, or the government, have to deny someone's happiness. (Or miserableness ;).)

Did homosexuals become a race while I was sleeping?

He meant discrimination on a large scale. I believe they call it heterosexism.

If you have to worry so much about what to call a brand of bigotry, I'd say you're focusing on the wrong things.

They do this, becaus they have realized one thing. Their "message" is failing. Society as a whole has come to a point were a lot of things are percieved as "normal" that christians frown upon. They notice that their "ideas" are failing in the competition of ideas and, therefore, search for leverage that gives them advantage over other concepts. They try to do this by abusing their credentials, so to speak, and wedge into institutions they believe will give them a good position to gain control over the pool of ideas inside society.

No, but it's pretty much the same mindset that drives both, discrimination against gays and racism. It's denying people rights and privileges because of arbitrary, nonsensical reasons, like skin color or religious doctrines.

People who insist on giving Christianity more influence on the government amuse me. Maybe a third of the settlers who came from Britain to America did so because the government kicked them out for following the wrong system of beliefs. Granted, those beliefs involved forbidding children to dance, and hanging women who spoke in church. Really, the US was co-founded by the Christians too up-tight for Europe.

Exactly, the Puritans were on the same scale as the islamic extremists back then.

If the country were 100% christian, then church and state as one, would be applicable.
