Civil War feels like a gimmick.

Well it happens. Big events always do that.

damn Darth what's with the hostility???

No hostility, but if youre going to ***** so much about something, dont read it.

Not only do you see people's views but we can see what the actual SHRA actually states....do Registered heroes have to work for the government?????
What is the penalty for unregistered heroing????
That too.
But since the content of the Bill is your main beef & the heroes' motives is mine, we'd both be happy.

Exactly. How is there supposed to be a debate on the merits of the SHRA if we don't really know the details (and no, it doesn't have to be a 800 page "congressional report"). Otherwise, it's not important what the act is, only that heroes are fighting each other...nevermind WHY exactly, but hey, as long as it sells, right?

Or to be more precise, good guys in colorful outfits slapping and zapping bad guys in colorful outfits and vise-versa. Good guys slapping and zapping other good guys becomes nothing more than a pissing contest--kind of like DC vs. Marvel.
Right on both counts.
What we've got now is,
"Stop this and listen to me!"
"Why? i don't even know your point of view!"
"Neither do I! But I don't know yours either so let's disregard 40 years of friendship & loyalty and beat each other silly!"
"Good idea!"

BTW-is "slap & zap" an official comic book term now? You guys seem to like it.

But don't you see how, had the red tape & politics been properly addressed before now, we wouldn't have to worry about it? You could get your beat-em-up stories & everything would make sense.

Oh, I'm all about how this should have been building for some time now. Still not a big fan of this. Then again, I didn't dig the whole MRA storyline much either.

Yeah, there are huge holes in logic and the way characters act in this story, but I dont think ive ever read a big crossover that didnt have those problems, and yes that includes DC crossovers as well.

I'm not even talking about the holes & inconsistencies (Tony & :spidey: initially opposing the bill & going to DC to stop it) but the whole point of what each side is trying to accomplish. Why is there a need to fight? Why do the non-regs have to be "hunted down"?

'Cause they's breakin' da law, fool!

Seriously, though, the violence can probably be traced back to Stamford. Big, violent episodes like that tend to polarize opinions beyond the point of discussion.

Are you just getting into "Dead Like Me"?
I will never forgive Showtime for axing that.

I saw the pilot on Sci Fi and was so hooked that I watched the entire series in its uncensored format afterward.

Civil War, has nothing new to offer other then a hacking story that was already done in JSA vs JSA in Geoff Johns Black Vengeance with the government superhero registration, and to a point also the mutant registration idea

and having Captain America & Iron Man opposing eachother I'm not buying any of that :down

Actually, JSA had a much earlier and closer analogue to Civil War in their retirement story. The House Un-American Activities Committie, in the post-war climate of extreme anti-Communism, demanded that the JSA reveal their identities so that they could verify they weren't Communists. The JSA refused. The difference is that the JSA just retired to keep from having to fight the government, unlike in Civil War, where the conflict is much more extreme.

I'm familiar w/that story; I'm just not really into DC all that much.

Aging charaacters can create problems tho, plus one main character ages and they all have too. I don't mind them staying young for another 100 years, I realize that while I may have read comics since the late 80's-early 90's and went back and read backstories, that others are just now picking them up. If Spiderman suddenly aged tho and started to look a bit older, tried to do an acrobatic move and dislocated a hip, and started to get grey hair, then stood next to Iron Man in a cross over who looks like he was 30 it'd be too much of a suspension of belief. Second one main hero ages the others will all have to too, only way currently a hero in the mainstream aging without anyone caring is in an alternate future timeline.

To tell the truth I can't look at Spiderman as some cool almost 30 year old, with a super model wife and so on that I could hang out with. I subconciously see him being older, not 10 years older, but way older. I can't help it, growing up reading comics then seeing him the same age now, can't be helped. But once they actually make him age it's over more or less, he can't get younger unless he gets his hands on the vulture. I personally don't wanna read a Spiderman who's bones pop every time he throws a punch, and talks about arthritis every time he does a flip. And if he did start aging, and everyone else did to keep the continuity making sense, and sales dropped dramatically over the next 10 years, then they'd have to do a hero's reborn type stunt and reset the Marvel Universe, and you've seen how well that pans out.

As long as the characters progress on the inside, I could care less about their outward progression. Just as long as they don't do something stupid like Parker and MJ having a kid, then the kid (May) growing into a teen and being a Spidergirl in the 616 'verse, and SPidey looking close to her age still. Of course characters like Hulk, Wolverine, Sabertooth, and Deadpool I think won't have to worry about this :).

Also agreed that simply putting a new guy in Iron Man's suit doesn't make him Tony Stark, only Rogers will be Capt. America in my eyes (even if he wasn't the first), the costume doesn't make the hero their character does.

Sometimes new people have come into the costumes and made even better heroes, though. Wally West is easily my favorite Flash, and he was the third to take the mantle.

Back on topic, Amazing #534 is a good sign. Seeing Peter second-guessing his recent actions could be a step toward getting back the Spider-Man we know & love.
