I don't think the Infinity War movies will be well received... If they think Civil War is stuffed wait until those two movies come out. I can already see the "overstuffed" criticism now. Anything above 80% on those would be phenomenal.
Dammit, someone posted the 7th rotten and the 1st Top critic rotten

Like I said before, the longer the MCU goes on the tougher it's going to be to keep it all fresh for critics and attain the kind of critical acclaim that movies like Iron Man received 8 years ago when it was all shiny and new. I think the solo movies like Black Panther and Doctor Strange will have no trouble since they're new characters but the ensemble pieces are going to have their work cut out for them to be even more inventive than what came before. That's going to be the test of all tests for the Russos.
How many rottens did TWS have at this point?
Agreed. Some reviewers will have their review half written before they see the film when they hear about how many characters are involved. I'd be very happy with 80% for those films while I'd look for more from solo films.I don't think the Infinity War movies will be well received... Impressive how you guys remember specifics like this.TWS had 8 negatives before it hit 100 reviews.
I guess some of these people really need to read a comic book.
It's not always Superman vs. Luthor, Batman vs. Joker or Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin. Sometimes there's a s' load of characters on the pages at the same time.![]()
Yep. Although I think having too many characters in general (not just in CBMs) is a dealbreaker for some reviewers. It's like breaking a longstanding rule of film for them. I mean it can genuinely often cause problems but I think CW shows that with the right writers and directors even a huge cast can be handled well with focus given to the main characters of the story and small rewarding arcs given to the supporting guys. And in terms of action, spectacle and scale, which are important elements of blockbusters whatever reviewers say, recreating those double page spreads from comics is hard to beat.I guess some of these people really need to read a comic book.

Yep, if there's not sufficient focus on the most important character/characters and their story, the film has probably failed regardless of how many other characters there might be. Good examples.Too many characters is always a problem for me if there is no focus.
But there are some great ensemble movies. Are there too many characters in Usual Suspects? Magnificent Seven? A dozen other classic movies with a huge ensemble?
I think they've proven beyond doubt they can handle large ensemble films. Also I think reviewers and many fans seem to give a pass to many classics with loads of characters in comparison with supporting characters in CBMs who happen to be superheroes. Just because the 12th character on the cast list in a CBM is a superhero doesn't mean they deserve any more focus than the 12th character on the Godfather cast list who might me someone's uncle. Noone claims that the uncle gets the shaft even if they get little screen time.Named Characters in Civil War: 24
compared to
Named Characters in The Godfather II: 32
and that 67 characters thing was a joke anyway
given how capable the Russos have proven, I'm not really worried for Infinity War
