I just went to clash with the titans in 3D yesterday, and wasn't so impressed. I had completely forgotten about how they added the 3D effect
after the movie was already finished. Big no-no. It turned out pretty awful, in consequence. I could remove the glasses for long periods of time and see no difference, excluding the few extra dollars missing from my wallet.
Onto the movie itself. The scenesif being cheesy wasn't enoughwere crammed in and I noticed poor editing at times. The script didn't spend enough time to elaborate on things such as the alien wizard tribe, the winged horses, or that seemingly ageless woman who follows Perseus around. I don't recall some of the names because I don't think they are ever even used by anyone in the movie.
The plot jumped all over the place, failing to tell us who those witches even are, the meaning behind that random robotic owl someone had supposedly packed on the quest, or how the two hunters managed to find one of the giant scorpions, train it, and walk it into Argos during the final battle.
By the way, did anyone notice the hilariously huge plot hole as the story came to an close? Be carefulI might spoil a thing or two here. So, the one thing in the whole wide world that bests the Kraken is Medusa's glare, right? Because it would be turned to stone, right? Well, from what I saw, that only works on humansmen, to be exact. For example, it didn't petrify the alien wizard guy. So, er, can anyone tell me how exactly it would work on the Kraken, a monster so awesome that it could even kill a god? That's not exactly human. Plus, the movie made it appear as if Medusa had to change her face to petrify people, and when Perseus took her head, it looked like a lady's face, which shouldn't have done any damage anyway. Perhaps the original movie had different details, but I'm only going by what I just saw.
Also, didn't the witches make a big deal out of the prophecy that Perseus will die if continues his questeven if he takes the head of Medusa? Um, honestly, I had forgotten all about that until after the movie was over. Not only did he
not die, he barely even got close to dying. In saying that I mean, not close enough for a movie-goer like me to go, "Oh no! It's probably going to be Perseus's end, as foretold!
"
I don't usually enjoy movies which both insult my intelligence and test my patience. I'm unoriginal, so I'm going to welcomely agree with the current average rating at Rotten Tomatoes and give it a 4.4/10.
