The problem with Sam is that he shows no emotion, has less charisma then drying paint, and really boring to watch

K.....?

I dunno...he's fine to me. Maybe I dont look for much in my action heroes.

Agreed, charisma goes a long way. Does Sam have it? I didn't see it in Terminator, but I did see some in Avatar. But I do have to admit, the accent slips are annoying and if he's going to continue to play characters with American accents (and that is what he WAS doing in those two films... anyone who thinks that he wasn't is in denial) he really needs to hire a voice coach, or at least work with a director who doesn't let him get away with it.

But then, what do I know. After all, I'm a huge fan of Bale, and ya know, all he does is yell all the time. :whatever:

Bale only sucked in Terminator Salvation. Really, really sucked. Utterly horrible. But...since he IS a good actor...he can make it all work.

I thought Bale did the best he could in TS with the material he had to work with, which wasn't much.

For all the hype about Worthington "stealing the show" from Bale, I thought Sam was pretty "meh" in TS. I did, however, like Worthington in Avatar. I'm in "wait and see" mode. Hopefully Clash of the Titans will help me form a more complete opinion of him.

Worthington needs to be in roles where he's not the stoic hero. That's the thing that makes him bland. He needs to play more Jake Sully types, somewhat fun loving, somewhat comedic at times and in over their head.

I agree Terry. He seems like a naturally funny guy in the interviews i've seen him in. Maybe he should do a comedy or a more wise cracker type action role.

The more I see of Percy Jackson, the more it reminds me of this movie. The heroes' names sound alike, they fight Medusa, Hades is the villain...it's kinda funny. I look forward to seeing both though.

The reason he stole the show from Bale was, and i'm sorry to repeat myself, Worthington's 'meh'ness was better then Bale's ****tiness. He was so horrid.

I can agree that Sam Worthington was better than Christian bale in TS. He totally took the show. before i watched it, i thought bale was going to be the main character.

Bale was originally scripted to not even appear on camera. There is no reason to believe that Sam "stole the show" when in fact his role was reduced at the last minute once filming started.

What has that gotta do with anything?

The fact is Worthington's and to a higher degree, Yelchin's performances were better than Bale's.

Or he just wasnt cutting the mustard, so they rushed to add scenes with Bale and because of the last minute scene writing Bale got crap that he had to deliver...

Actually, I heard Bale was the one who got them to write more scenes for him.

And if Worthington wasn't cutting the mustard... why did he still CLEARLY outperform Bale?

A friend of mine basically made note of this when we were in the theater to watch Sherlock Holmes and the promo for this came on.

Friend: "So this is the thing right now huh?"
Me: "What?"
Friend: "They're gonna be making a lot of movies based on greek myth, right? Mean, we've got this... and then there's Percy Jackson..."
Me: "Riiiiight."

Edit: Added Ratcrawlers quote in there for context. Posting on these boards is way too fast.

Hey can anyone tell me who does the rock music for the trailers. Or where can get the music for the trailer.

Connor was always meant to appear in the film. He was in the original script but his role was minimal and the Marcus Wright character was the only lead.

Bale was originally offered the role of Marcus (the lead in the film). They always wanted him for the lead but he was adamant about playing John Connor instead, which is what lead to the Connor role being turned into a co-lead.

Bale had no preference on the size of the role though, when they were re-writing the script. He just wanted what would serve the story best.

What served the story best was apparently less focus on the great actor that is still a nobody despite starring in the biggest film of all time.

I read that originally McG wanted Bale to play Marcus, but for some reason Bale chose to play John Connor instead, so they ended up having to beef up Connor's role in the movie from what was a much minor part.

I actually thank Bale for that. Even with T4 being a little disappointing, I think I would have completely hated the film if it was how the original script had it. Finally get the future, and Connor's barely in it? Come on.

I agree. If Skynet spent the better part of 3 films trying to kill Sarah (and later her son, John), just to prevent John from being borned, how come in Salvation John was not even the head of the Resistence? Why didn't Skynet kill the leader instead of John? If it was all about Marcus in Salvation then I really don't see the point of the first 3 films. Btw, I do think this should've been given to Cameron to write & direct; he did the first two Terminator movies, and he should be the one who makes the movie about the aftermath of the Judgement Day imo.

I think Sam was alot better in T-4 then Avatar as Marcus Wright and in many ways think Bale was wrong for Connor when see the film. I was excited at first Bale was Conner but after seeing if feel Danial Craig or Viggo Mortensen would have been better choices.

Exactly. I think the overall disdain people are feeling towards Bale in that film stems more from the way the character was written (grizzled and somewhat unlikeable), the fact that he wasn't originally supposed to be the main character in the story (which is stupid... who the hell was clamoring for a Marcus Wright movie?) and being hampered with some really awful dialogue. Those are faults of the screenwriters and the director, not the actor. Now, it is apparently true that Bale helped them work on the script, so perhaps he does deserve some of the blame in that regard. But as far as his actual performance, he did the best with what he was given.

It was a bad idea to start with to make a movie about the Machine War without John Connor as the main character. It doesn't even make sense. As bad as the Star Wars prequels were, at least they attempted to tell us how Anakin became Darth Vader (though poorly). If they had focused on completely different characters that we'd never heard of before and just had Anakin show up for five minutes, what would have been the point of them?

I think we can all agree that TS was doomed from the start.
