Why blame Avatar? Avatar was shot in 3D for artistic purposes. Cameron wanted to push the boundry of film and never him or the studio anticipated its success. He did it right, nearly everyone else is doing it wrong.

It's easy(ish); don't go watch the movie at 3D-only cinemas and watch them change their tune. They're not forcing you to do anything.

And this doesn't mean I agree with the 3D-only stance btw.
Well, that's kinda hard when it is the only theater in the area.

And yes they are basically forcing people see it. This is the first the theater I go to is doing this. and if they continue to do this it will be a big f u to everyone who goes there on a regular basis.

Okay, now this 3d garbage has gone to far, when certain theaters decide to not even play the 2d version and only 3d. Like they are dong at my theater with clash of the titans, 3d only and zero screenings for 2d, which is complete and utter bulls**t if you ask me, basically forcing people to see it in 3d. Well I for one will not stand for this and even if i wanted to see this movie, I'm not gonna cave and give in to their demands. The People should have a choice on whether they wanna see it in 3d or not. WB better not pull this crap with all their 3d films coming out in the future.

Ahhhhhhh good on you buddy, glad to say I have good news so you wont have to miss out on this movie. Simply wait a week or a few days and Mr and Mrs Sho will have a copy ready and waiting...............if you get my drift.:cwink:

Exactly.
It's this "me too" sheep mentality that annoys that piss out of me, and I feel avatar is at least partly to blame.
But then again, I hate that stupid movie, so...

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and still blame avatar and all the flock of sheep that paid to see it in 3D.

Why blame Cameron? He wanted to shoot it in 3D from the beginning, and it was a financial risk for him because Avatar is probably the most expensive movie ever made, and he hasn't directed in a decade. Avatar really incorporated 3D into the movie seamlessly, unlike COTT's patch work, and should be commended for their ground-breaking work.

Eh, I just hated Avatar and that goddamned 3D effect gives me a headache. I definitely don't like where this trend is going, because we are being forced to watch things in 3D more and more, and I'm sorry but the "you don't have to watch it like than then!" comments just don't cut it.

But it's because you didn't like it that you're blaming it. If you'd loved it you would blame the real culprits who are the cash-in kings who always ruin any new cool thing by imitating it poorly forever more to make an easy buck.

I heard the 3d for this was really awful. If i do get a chance to watch this. I'm going to watch this in regular theaters.

By the way, Other than this and alice in wonderland.
What other movies are coming out that are doing the awful 2d into 3d convert??

Yeah, I get it. "Oh, he things 3D sucks and he still saw it! Duh!".
Come on, just think about it a bit...it was only available in 3D in the theatre where I go, so I went to see it when it first came out, because hey, it's James Cameron.
Three excruciatingly disappointing hours later...that's when I came to my current opinion. Not too hard to get, but a chance for an e-put down is much more important, right?

Try not making contradictory posts instead of playing the victim card. How is your situation any different than anyone else's? Your comment was directed explicitly against those who went to Avatar in 3D, period. That has nothing to do with how they felt about it afterwards or even beforehand. Just the act of buying 3D tickets. Per your statements, you yourself are part of the sheep flock.

Your words, not mines.

Victim card? You lost me there. And I guess I should have been clearer? My bad. As I found Avatar to be a completely overrated and ordinary movie (save some of the visual effects, I guess....though District 9 made a much better job when it came to VFX), my "sheep" comment was more directed towards those "BEST MOVIE EVER! 3D IS THE WAY TO GO!" people.

It's pretty obvious that if I was going to criticize the movie, I had to see it first, right? I'm not into the whole "I haven't seen that movie, but it sucks/rules!" mentality that's so prevalent around the internet.

Listen, I don't believe in the whole " endless e-argument" thing, so let's say you win and everything's kool & the gang.

D9 VFX better than Avatar? Holy christ... Of course they looked good, but they don't even match up Star Trek, much less Avatar.

crook, its "mine" not "mines"

i still feel good about wanting to see this

Bunk, i have to disagree with ya there, D9 had better FX then avatar, and i did see the movie, didnt think it was anyhting special
but star trek did have goo FX not D9 good, but still good IMO

Don't worry, no one's arguing here. If you haven't noticed, I haven't really commented on anything. I've merely repeated what you've said, which is the equivalent of holding a mirror up to you and nothing more.

You've clarified your statement better, but in the midst of your explanation you've revealed a not so delightful stance against the pro-3D crowd. It's one thing to express distaste in a technological tool, it's another to label everyone who disagrees with it a bunch of "sheep".

crook, its "mine" not "mines"
As my name suggests, I take whatever opportunity I can to avoid conforming to any standards of rules. That includes English. :o

Personal opinion, I guess *shrugs*. If I sounded condescending, then I apologize.
I just don't like this trend, because I feared it would push more and more studios to force 3D upon their releases just to be able to charge a few more bucks.
Lo and behold, it's happening.

i blame the studio system than Cameron, though he maybe the catalyst for the 3D movement.

I don't think it should be blamed on Cameron or his film at all!

As Octoberist just said, it's all these other studios jumping on the bandwagon that are messing things up.

In the past i didn't mind the occastional 3D film but now it's overblown and just annoying. Thankfully I think the two theatres in my area still have a screen that shows the 2D version...of course it's the somewhat smaller screen. :(

I plan on seeing Clash in 2D but due to this thread as well as a few others i sometimes want to stop going to message boads and reading any and all reviews before I see a film. I haven't watched those clips that people keep posting but from what a lot of people are saying, this movie's dialogue and acting appears to be cheesy or in some cases horrible. I would have liked to have gone into the film without any of that already in my head. My own fault of course but it's hard to stay away since message boards are pretty much the only place to talk to other people about film and cinema on a serious level.

I don't know about anyone else but i overcame temptation and did not check out those scenes released in the past few weeks. It kind of sucks when you don't spoil yourself like that but then while watching TV last night one of the new TV spots/ads pretty much shows how Medusa gets killed...:cmad:

I'm dead serious when i say this but...**** YOU marketing people as well as the studios who ok the final teasers, trailers and TV spots. They truly don't give a **** ruining these films somewhat by showing all the action, or in some cases ruining surprises the film may have.

Although i try to watch as little TV as possible, i'm now going to have to quickly change the channel anytime a TV spot comes on. Why can't they make trailers like they used to in the '90s as well as the previous decades!

From Dave Chen, editor of the well respected slashfilm.com...

Overheard leaving Clash o/Titans: "I just spent 2 hrs watching that movie and i feel nothing. I don't even dislike it. I just feel nothing."

I do partly blame Avatar started the 3D 'revolution', but it's not because I hated the film. I think it's the fact that Avatar was so successful, and now studio heads believe that slapping 3D on anything will make it more popular.

I just got home from an early screening for the press that my friend invited me too. It is a good movie. It is very entertaining. The only thing that bothered me was it seems like it was a set up to what they hope will be more movies. It felt like the first act of something bigger.
