I've already asked this on other forums but nobody has answered.

So, could somebody tell me about the action of the greek gods in the film? Do they use their powers to effect the environment (humans, water, fire, air, etc.)? I mean scenes like Thetis did with Perseus in the original film.

Thanks for answering in advance!

Not so much -- it's mostly just Zeus and Hades that do anything at all in the movie.
The other gods just stand in the background and do nothing. I think Poseidon has a couple of lines, but other than that, nothing from Hera, Aphrodite, Hephaestus or anyone. Zeus has the little figurines of humans like he did in the original movie, but he just looks at them. The direct attacks on humans come from Hades, who turns into a flock of flying demons at the beginning and end of the movie. Even the Kraken is tied to Hades, where it was supposedly one of his children and carries part of his power inside it. Hades also gives Calibos some undefined powers -- his blood turns into giant scorpions like Medusa's did in the first movie for example.

Perseus finds a magic sword from "the gods" (we assume Zeus, but it's never really made clear), but no mirrored shield. Io pretty much serves as Perseus' guide during the whole movie, with Zeus only speaking to him briefly twice.

I think they deviate the movie way too far from the mythology, and I'm surprised that Perseus didn't even have Athena's Aegis shield to aid him against Medusa. I guess he just charged in blindly and shut his eyes the whole time against Medusa? And Hades being the father of Kraken? :whatever: They tried way too hard to make Hades, who's God of the Underworld but by no means an evil deity according to Greek mythology, the primary villain in COTT.

From a review at AICN.com

...the single worst 3-D conversion of recent memory.

The 3-D is so bad there are shots where an actors’ hair is pushing out of his or her head or where a face looks distorted, like someone was screwing with an anamorphic lens.

It’s quite clear Leterrier didn’t shoot with 3-D in mind as so much of the movie is a quickly moving camera, which just causes blurs when you try 3-Dize the shot. It’s an ugly, ugly, ugly 3-D picture.

in another review on aintitcool (by Mass aka Carlyle) he said that certain filmmakers don't want to shoot in 3D because

1. you have to go digital.

2. you have to change your style of direction. That means no fast cut editing, shaky camera, change your camera movements and cinematography, etc.

In other words, you have to slower cuts so the 3D can be effective, and with a guy like Michael Bay, he aint' having it.

Clash of the Titans, according to the review, has so many fast cuts that it looks blury.

It's a movie that you should definitely see on the big screen because of the big action spectacle and of course seeing the Kraken on the big screen.

I think writers that make Hades or Ares evil have missed the point about Greek Mythology. They were evil or good. They were as complex as people were.Hades wasnt plotting Zeus over throw and Ares just wasnt going around killing everything

My first impression of the Gods when I read all the Greek mythological stories is that all of them(with the exception of Demeter) are the ultimate spoiled children. They are Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Kanye West with god-like powers.

They should just get frigging Spielberg or Scott to do Avengers.

Whenever he directs a movie, Spielberg commands a hefty upfront fee plus 15% of the b.o. gross. He won't alter it to make the movie's budget doable, that's why Universal backed out of co-financing and co-producing Tintin because he wouldn't forego his 15% backend deal.

But if he ever did, we would be guaranteed a heroic John Williams score -- which would be a definite plus. And he would definitely bring in a finished product under budget, due to his preference for fast shooting.

Make no mistake that the Greek gods were believed to be as treacherous and fickle as the weather, sea, and other calamities. People believed all the worlds happenings, comings, and goings were the wrath or blessings of the gods.

hmmmmm John Williams Avengers theme with Harrison Ford playing Nick Fury.....

actually the Kraken isnt a greek mythological creature...the name Kraken is a scandinavian/german word

The name of the creature from the myth is Ceto

Holy cow. My local multiplex has a 3D theater, but is not going to show Clash of the Titans in 3D. They are keeping How To Train Your Dragon as their 3D movie. I'm actually proud of them.

And don't forget Zeus was like the first philanderer!! :woot: That man could not keep his d*** in his pants for s**t!

It's apparent this is not going to be the equal to the cult classic, but more of a diversion summer blockbuster deal. Guilty pleasure flick, man.

Too bad. It had potential to be more than that.

there's always Tarsem's War Of The Gods...
