Clayface written by Mike Flanagan

Also, what happened to not giving the greenlight to movies unless the scripts were ready to film....

Lol y'all treating this man word as gospel. I keep seeing people run with this as some kinda gotcha and its such a misunderstanding of how this stuff can play out. A director reworking a draft he didn't write is not uncommon. The script got the director in the door. Now he wants to work it to his vision because its his film now.

And nothing suggets a script won't be ready to shoot. Production doesn't start for 6 months.

Amini's resume seems to be half and half. On the one hand, he wrote the screenplay for Drive. But he also was involved with the screenplay for The Snowman.

Guess we'll see. Plus, as far as treating Gunn's word as gospel, Gunn himself said don't believe anything unless it came from him or Safran. Should people not be taking him at his word, then?

Mike Flanagan wrote a script that they deemed good enough to greenlight the project.

Doesn't mean that that's the shooting script, which takes practical issues (budget, locations, etc.) as well as the director's and other creatives' ideas into account.

And with Flanagan unavailable, of course they hire another write to do rewrites.

So... what's the fuzz, exactly?

There's nothing negative about this unless you want to spin it that way (or in that case, Jeff Sneider, who's clearly got personal beef with Gunn).

But things can change and usually do in this industry. He says they won't shoot without a complete script, they announce they're completing the script and people run to say "well what about completed scripts" ... that is irksome fandom 101 lol

Of course things change, the only point I'm making is that Gunn was so impressed with the script, which wasn't even part of the plan for his first slate of movies, that he had to give it the greenlight.

Now it's getting a rewrite, and lets face it, it's not like they hired this auteur director that his input is essential. I don't think it's irksome at all to question this one. That's the point of these messages boards, to discuss things. Coupled with the fact that sgt. Rock was pretty much ready to go and was cancelled, there is obviously something going on. Cold feet maybe on the lesser known characters?

Also, clayface being the 3rd movie of your new DCU is odd, period.

And it got directors in the door. Then the director they hired got a say so in the creative process. This is a good thing.

The director and his creative partner are making a script they inherited their own. It's not a rarity. & a director doesn't need to be an "auteur" to have artistic vision. The director's input is beyond essential.

& Sgt. Rock is in the air as of now. They probably wanna wait and see how things play out, but they also had trades walk back "cancellation" so who knows what will happen.

Why though? I don't see what's wrong with making a mid-budget horror film.

Regardless of whether their auteurs or not,why the heck do you think you hire a director? Of course they're gonna have at least some input.

I swear , these online takes are baffling sometimes.

I liked Blyth well enough is his Hunger Games, but after Sinners… gotta be O’Connell.

I would love to see Flanagan fully involved in something Batman related, but if he takes on one more project, the Dark Tower fans are going to pull a January 6th.

I liked Woodall well enough on The White Lotus, but he’s not someone I’d be super excited about for this. Blyth and MacKay would be just about tied in mind, and O’Connell should, ideally, be the frontrunner.

Matt Reeves and I………. Blown away…….Interesting……. Why is Reeves involved with the casting of DCU Clayface……

Unless you forget to add a red smiley face to your post, I wouldn't read too much in this...
In fact, I wouldn't read anything into it at all.
Reeves was also attached to Caped Crusader, which as nothing to do with his film or the DCU.

The guy just wants a say in all things Batman at Warner.

The guy is just living the dream.

I agree with your take. My point is Reeves and Gunn are on the same page. Reeves is not stepping down.
