Clayface written by Mike Flanagan

Well fiddlesticks.

This could very well still be (and hopefully is) an awesome Clayface movie. But I thought the promise of the premise with this DCU is that we’re in a lived-in universe. And, yes, I know that can still be true but, damn, I’m still waiting for a villain movie with the hero in a supporting role.

Maybe by next October we’ll have gotten some Batman casting so he can have a cameo appearance.

Thought so that they were gonna base it off One Bad Day: Clayface, which is set in Hollywood. I'm sure Mike Flanagan put in lots of nods to Feat of Clay, too.

And it's for the best for a standalone movie IMO. Hagen is an actor from Gotham who moves to LA to make it big. I'm sure he's gonna find his way back to Gotham City eventually.

I just read One Bad Day after seeing this post; a fun one-shot. Thanks.

Even still, Batman featured in that. And obviously in Feat of Clay too. Lord knows I’d rather see Batman take down Clayface instead of Dr. Caitlin Bates and her detective fiancé John.

Unless Clayface just kills them. In which case I’m then wondering when Batman will show up.

Safran and Gunn have both said that it's gonna be 100% a body horror movie, so everything's fair game and Batman not being in it makes it a tad more unpredictable.

Both THR and Deadline are talking like Ackie is a done deal too.

Interested to see how this one is going to look—cinematography, effects, all of it.

Gunn keeps stressing that each DCU entry will stand on its own, and that’s what makes the DCU distinct. But so far, while the maturity rating may vary project to project, the aesthetic still feels pretty streamlined—kind of MCU-ish in that way. I really liked CC, Superman, and the Peacemaker S2 premiere, but hoping Clayface leans harder into something distinct. Would be cool to see them break pattern a bit.

I think it would've worked better as an Elseworld project than an actual DCU film, unless it ties with the overall plan of this chapter, but I don't see how such a minor character would fit in within the big picture.

I'm just curious to see if this is the same Clayface we saw in Creature Commandos.

It doesn't need to fit into the big picture. It just needs to be a good movie.

To be fair, CC, Superman, and Peacemaker are all under Gunn's direct command.

But like you, I really hope to see a wide variety of sensibilities on the screen.
And I also hope that Clayface will offer something truly unique. In any case, it should avoid being too visually too close to The Substance, as their synopsis are already almost identical...

I'm really having a hard time mustering up an excitement for this.
It's a great concept but, idk, the more Flanagan's role has been reduced the less it feels like there was any point making it.

As long as the budget don't exceed the 40 million originally reported, this movie could be a surprise hit for WBD, maybe even one of the most profitable productions of 2026.

Maybe they should include Gotham or anything Batman related in the title, for marketing purposes.
