Superman Returns clips without color filters.

because that's how they wanted it to look... plain and simple

It's actually quite shocking how much better this looks. There is absolutely no reasonable explanation anyone can come up with as to why Singer destroyed the vibrant color.

if it actually HAD that color scheme, it would be so damned ugly... but no, it was darker than that.

I'm not entirely sure this look would have been a bad thing...He looked damn near stunning in that version of the last shot. I would have taken it.

the ending shot was excellent without color correction

I have no idea what that Fleischer Superman pic is supposed to prove or disprove. It's still much brighter than the bland SR color corrected Singerman suit.

There is no reasonable person who can honestly claim that the theatrical washed out colors look better than the Sony Imageworks clips. I said reasonable remember.

Besides, I did a search for Fleischer Superman. That exact pic came up many times and each time it had a different brightness. The pic you show appears much darker than all the others. Again, even so, your pic is much brighter than the SR suit. Though it was technicolor in the 1940's they still knew enough to make the suit bright.

Your post proves nothing. If Singer was going after a Fleischer inspired Superman, he failed miserably.

I didn't notice jack $hit unless there is a comparison side-by-side shot.

I'm just happy that they released this clip... I know it's a long shot, but I hope that one day we get to see this film without the color correction

Absolutely. I know it wouldn't have made the story any better but it would have at least brought some life into the film. It's amazing thought how much better the plane sequence looks.

If a sequel ever happens, you can bet the colors will look like these Sony clips.

If anyone ever makes a SR fan cut, they could use the original colors, take out the kid, take out the Smallville flashback and add some reasonable explanation as to why he left, and maybe have something.

the scene link i did it the same way but changed the final ending music as hes flying int he clouds

its crazy is to how much it would have made the film better wit those colors...and dare i say it, it actually looks epic!!

i find myself watching that clip more times than I have watched Superman Returns

Superman Returns' color palette... hmm... the problem is not that it's dark. The problem is that it's just bland... it sucks. I've never been a big fan of Bryan Singer, especially the cinematography in his movies, etc.

I love The Usual Suspects, after that there hasn't been one Bryan Singer movie that has amazed me. His movies are not terrible, but they're generic, average "wanna-be-arthouse" films. Same with Superman Returns -- and it's cinematography, lighting and color palette...

Bleahh...

Just look at Batman Begins, Spider-Man 2 & 3... or movies like Se7en and Gremlins -- that's cinematography!

Yeah, that's what it is... bland, depressing and "wannabe-arthouse," not dark.

i never did see it as "arthouse"... The Prestige's palette and tone had more of a "arthouse" feel to it...

to me, though, it was a very dark movie, especially for a Superman movie

That's why I said "wannabe-arthouse." The problem is not that it's dark. C'mon, that's not a dark movie. It's just a bland movie, quite boring... and depressing.

"Superman Doomsday" looks dark... which is completely OK to me!

still looks dark to me... that's not gonna change.

he tried to make it darker than it already was, and it failed miserably

But... are you talking about a dark color palette or about a dark movie?!

Ah, okay...

Well, you know, would've been okay to me if it was lit dark (for example: night scenes, etc.) but it totally lacks contrast, which makes it -- thanks to Bryan Singer's not so wise corrections -- bland and... well, darker than it should be.
