Cloverfield Director To Remake Let The Right One In

That's too bad. I like seeing how foreign filmakers interpret things.

There's no rule saying that they can't.

I'll see this just because of Hammer Horror!

Some what off-topic, I wrote an essay about the orginal Let The Right One In and got a first.

It's way too soon to remake this...didn't it just come out last year?

Is Let The Right One In really as great as people have said it is?

I got it from Netflix last week after all the raving reviews of it on here. I found the movie to be awful, it was very boring and pretenious in my opinion, gave it one, maybe two stars.

the first one is great. Not sure about the remake but I like how they're honouring the original on the poster.

I just don't understand why its absolutely unnecessary.
I think Americans are way to 'boxed in' (if you will...).
Foreign movies exists...and people all around the world watch them all the time. Reading subtitles won't exactly kill you. Jeez.

Anyway, I don't like the posters that much. I wonder if they will keep the same theme, I thought the score was great and worked really well for the film's melancholy tone.
Also, I want to say that the original is one of the best foreign films released this decade...its going to be hard to find the same chemistry between the two kid actors from the original

I don't really care for the posters. If I had to pick one it would be the shot of the two in the snow with their backs to us. That is a slightly cool poster for people who have no idea this is a remake and what it's about.

That's out of 5 or 10?

No 1 or 2 stars out of 5, so like 3 out of 10. The only part I liked was
when the old woman was becoming a vampire, thought that was interesting
. The biggest thing was, nobody showed emotion in the movie, either happiness, fear, anger, nothing.

The original movie was ok. I think it's a bit over rated, either way it doesn't need to be remade.

The relationship between the main characters was pretty interesting but the movie was very slow at times. Some things that bothered me:

The "young" "female" vampire, she needs someone to kill for her. When she has to get blood herself (from a drunken middle aged man, and later woman) she seems to have difficulty. But at the end of the movie she decapitates 3 or 4 young men in under 30 secs.

Then there's the old man you has supposedly been doing these killings for years but seems like he has no idea what he's doing. Like he just strings this kid up from a tree in a public park and slits the kid's throat. Who is he the Predator? It was a real surprise that he was interrupted by someone walking their dog.

Then this guy trys to kill himself by pouring acid on his face! Wtf kind of way of killing yourself is that!? It didn't work, next time just slit your own throat.

Mostly, that was the point. Two emotionally empty children find solace within each other's company. The stoic nature of both individuals is crucial to the depiction of the loss of innocence in youth.

It's 2 kids and one teen. Two of which came off as sissies, and the big one was apparently too shocked to even put up a fight. His hand was holding onto Oskar the entire time, indicating that he barely moved that entire scene.

It was the middle of the night, you know, when it's logical to commit a crime or murder? He didn't expect anyone to be out there. Especially in a rural area.

Sorry, that's just you misunderstanding the scene. The intent was never [BLACKOUT]suicide. It was disfigurement. He didn't want anything to be traced back to Eli. Had he killed himself, his identity would have been found out and sooner or later his connection to Eli would be discovered. [/BLACKOUT]

In other news, anyone see the casting tapes for Abby (Eli) in the remake? They're auditioning two scenes from the book/movie:

Apparently these are the front-runners. Personally, none of them hold a handle to Lina's brilliant and haunting performance. But I would be satisfied with the latter two. First girl nails the youthful and innocent appearance, but was too girly and predictable in her line delivery. Second girl was the best out of the three in acting, but I'm not sure her looks would work for the role. Third girl is right in the middle in both categories.

Thoughts?

Hmmm Legion and amazingfantasy - I think you'd really need to rewatch the film to really understand the subtlety, and the deliberate pacing that it had.

I think it's a masterpiece. Worth the hype since I'd heard about it literally a week before I saw it. Beautifully made, shot, told, acted.

Right. The chemistry and effortless natural interaction between the two actors is what made the original stand out. Take that out of the equation and the original would have been no better than a run-of-the-mill SyFy craptastic movie of the week with subtitles. I hope Matt Reeves understands this.

Philip Seymour Hoffman Joins Cast of 'Let Me In'?

Philip Seymour Hoffman has been casting in Let Me In, Overture FIlms' remake of Let the Right One In, according to /Film. Already on board as Kody Smit McPhee (The Road) who will play Owen (formerly Oskar), alongside Kick Ass' Chloe Moretz, who nabbed the part of Abby (formerly Eli). "The rumour of Hoffman’s casting came to me directly and personally a couple of nights back, though this of course prompted a wave of Googling," writes /Film. "What I could find, and consider most interesting, is the film’s page on the New York Times movie database which lists the two kids I named above and Hoffman as being the only three known members of the cast line-up." We'll hold until confirmed, but this could be some exciting news. Let Me In is a direct adaptation of the book and not a direct remake of the Swedish movie.

In the film Oskar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.

Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) is directing.

I'd say this gives this film now a bit more credit, seeing as he's a oscar winner. And a actor alot seem to like his work in various movies.

Ha! So Chloe Moretz did get the role. Thank god, as I wrote right above she was the only competent choice of the final three. Adding Hoffman to the fray can't be anything but great. Who's he playing though? Eli's guardian? That's a small role.

I would think so. Plus they said this is gonna be more like the novel, rather then the movie.

''More like the novel''. It's THE remake excuse. It's pathetic they're ALREADY remaking this movie that was perfectly fine. Hollywood gets less interesting by the day.

Your opinions on film officially have no value.

This film is not going to have an iota of the subtlety or nuance of the original. :csad:

And the original version doesn't even have the proper subtitles on home video release. :csad:

****s ****ed up. :down

saw the original. No one should touch that movie...ever

UGH!!! I hate that any american director can leave ALONE A MOVIE THAT'S GOT NOTHING TO BE CHANGED!!!

but I <3 Hammer Films :)

I am still very much against the remake, but hey, at least they're trying with the recent casting news.
