Since when has Spidey's Caucasianess ever been an issue? There isn't isn't anything about his character that makes him exclusively white.

Yeah, that's why I put the thing about the Hispanic Spidey in the comics.

I could deal with that cause he has been Hispanic before and it has worked for a time.

anyone see blackula

yeah, but what would make a character "exclusively white"?

Yes....an African nobleman is turned into a vampire by Dracula, who then sarcasticly calls him Blacula. So....that movie wasn't a case of changing the race of a character that is already established, but rather a play on words to cover the situation.

Hm. Freddie Prince Jr and Cameron Diaz aren't white, yet they are only cast in white roles. It is all about the look of the actor.

If there was an actor who was perfect for Superman. Perfect build, bone structure, height, etc. but he was Hispanic, would people really be up in arms over it?

unfortunately yes, they would.

and those people would be from the south :woot:

Those are pretty much the norm in every major city across the United States. You really need to stop trying to insult my intelligence because I ALWAYS ACE the big tests. In other words, I am in the top 10% when it comes to intelligence in this country.

It's really quite a burden, I'm too smart for my own good. You don't realize the horror of knowing more than 90% of the world and actually being able to comprehend more than 95%. It's actually a miracle that I have not been institutionalized yet. I'm so very, very bored with everything and still so very, very young. The apocalypse sounds amusing and I know I can start it with just one move.
Wow...I admire you now

You do realize that I am from the south......and that I constantly fight racism on here? One racist remark doesn't justify another.

Spider-Man 2099 isn't Peter Parker tho.:o

yeah, but what would make a character "exclusively white"?
Off the top of my head...I can't think of anything.
isnt Parker a usually white last name?
bah, that's not something to get hung up on. You can say he's half-white or whatever.

Nope, you are correct.

I was afraid to make this thread. I wasn't expecting someone to get banned from it though. :(

It's not your fault. The bloods been mopped up, so let's just keep on dancing.:hq:

Uh, yeah they are. Very white.

Probably, just as anyone would be if they decided to change Shaft or Blade or many other non-white comic book heroes' race.

The thing is, regardless of your view of Singer or his Superman movie, he said it right when he stated Superman should step out of your subconscious. I've known Superman's appearance since the time I could remember, and he has been white. That's the way I remember him and that's the way I want to see him because I remember him that way.

Making him another race to me seems just the opposite of color blind. It seems very deliberate like instead of trying to nail the character and his widely recognized appearance, they're trying to fight taboo or make a statement.

This whole color-blind casting is a idea that will never be accepted, by ANY parties. Race is too embedded into our minds as a great source of clash, misunderstanding, and lack of communication. There are too many people on both sides and all sides that cannot look past color.

they come from Hispanic backgrounds.

he's talking about the actor not the character.

they come from Hispanic backgrounds.

Doesn't matter. They're white. Diaz is about as white as they come. No need to explain her.

Freddie Prinze Jr - He is Puerto Rican and Hungarian from his father's (actor Freddie Prinze) side, Irish, English and Native American from his mother's side. He has more caucassian than hispanic genes/traits.

he's talking about the actor not the character.

What?

There has rarely been as important a casting decision as the actor who is to portray Superman. Superman, with each actor, tends to embody that's actor's strength and charm. Each Superman is looked upon differently, depending on the actor to bring him to life.

which is why the point was that the actors appearance matters more than their racial/ethnic background.

Ok son, mind tellling us what grade you're in and what "big tests" you've had to overcome :whatever: getting a 5 on your AP Bio exam doesn't make you a being of unrivalled intelect :woot:
I got a 5 on mine! :woot:

Not really.. Give me one good reason to make Superman black. And don't give me the hypothetical he could look perfect for the role crap. Give me one solid reason that isn't "to be fair".
There are plenty of white actors who could do the part. The character was created white, has been white for decades. It's not a racist thing to keep him white, it's a respect thing to the source material and the material that people grew up with.

i would rather the rock play superman than nicolas cage thats for sure

We can say the same thing about Angelina Jolie playing Mairane Pearl. For respect for the actual person they could of got bi-racial woman. But the producers (including Angelina) thought she was right for the part.

err..I'm talking about the actors appearance in terms of some consistency with the characters physical appearance. Obviously casting a black actor would change things, unless for whatever reason he looked white.

Best. Sarcasm. Ever.

That is what I mean. Yes, thank you.

And Superman isn't white at all. He is Kryptonian. :supes:
