When can we start looking for hotels? I am soo excited for this year, going to be a huge con for Superhero movies!

It takes a patient, patient soul to spend hours greeting strangers. Many actors are able to do it because they're paid to act, after all. :funny: (And yet people bag on obviously introverted actors like Kristin Stewart.) It always surprises me when people are nice at these things. A few hours of directing interacting with that many people and I'd be ready to cut someone. My bf wouldn't last 15 seconds standing in the venue before suffering a panic attack.

Very true about introverts. Maybe he was introverted and a little awkward meeting a lot of strangers. Only thing is that I was roughly 5th in line to meet him so I don't think his patience had run out that quickly. Either way it was a fun time and i'm glad I got the book signed.

Oh, I met Mike Mignola and he was super-nice. Signed a book that I got from him, and it was a free book too. :funny: This was on Sunday though, which is much slower and I was actually the only person at the table. Saturday's always the busiest day, followed closely by Friday. Thursday is when you should meet people before they get exhausted and snippy. :funny:

Mike Mignola and Jim Lee were there as well but they never sat down at their tables/booths. They had someone there to sell autographed pics though.

I whent to the NYCC on Saturday. I met Peter David, John ROmita Jr., and Todd Mcfarlane, but it was beyond packed! I tried to meet Romita Sr., but they weren't allowing anybody else in line. I was lucky enough to even meet ROmita Jr. I also saw Stan Lee! I was going to meet bruce cambell because I ordered a ticket for saturday, but the line was HUUUUUGE. I would have been there at least 2 hours. SO, I was very disspointed I couldn't meet him. I bought The SPider-Man Vault, which isn't in stores until next month for $50. As I said, Peter David signed it for me. I was going to have Todd MCfarlane sign my copy of ASM 300, but he was only signing posters of this new video game he helped make. Still, he was a really nice guy as was John Romtia Jr. I was in line for about an hour for Romita Jr, which was one of the reasons I couldn't meet Romita Sr. That dissapointed me ALOT. I hada coyp of Asm # 50 i wanted him to sign. They were only there for an hour. I had ROmita Jr. sign my copy of ASM #600. I wanted to meet Erik Larsen for him to sign a few issues of ASM, but I didn't have his issues on me. Same for Joe Quesada and Dan Slott. So, next year, I REALLY hope to meet those guys that i didn't get a chance to meet. Saturday was just wayy too crowded and that played a big part in why so many people didn't get to meet who they want.

Awesome convention, but they really need to work on organization.

and sadly it's been confirmed to stay in san deigo till 2015.

the comic con has out grew it, it needs to move to a bigger place

For those who went to the San Diego Comic Con this year... how crowded was it? Also, how long did it take to get into panels?

i need to go to Baltimore Comic Con or Wizard World next year. anyone wanna car pool?

1. Extremely.
2. Depends what the panel is for. Forty-five minutes was usually good for the non-Hall H ones. For Hall H, you had really better be in the room 2 panels before the one you actually wanted to see.

It's come to my attention that actual book authors actually attend these conventions as part of promotional tours where they sign and giveaway free paperback books, but has anyone actually taken advantage of this brought other books the author has written for them to sign instead of the one they've giving away?

You kiddin? It's already impossible to get hotels for the San Diego one :csad: My boyfriend has tried for months.

It's impossible to get the ones right next to the convention center (which are booked over a year in advance). Many smaller ones will still have availability until a month or so beforehand.

yeah, we stayed in a small town outside of san diego a year ago... was nice and good price. not far from downtown either

Ughh are you series, they are full? That is insane! Anyway we can get them, like through agencies or anything??

How did you get around town?

well me and my friends live in LA so we have a car... but...

downtown has a really good train station and the whole area has a good train station.. so its not hard to find a hotel as far north as Oceanside and hop on the train into town each day..

downtown san diego is also what i'd call a "walk-a-city" anything you'd want to see or go to (aside from like the zoo) is all in walking distance from the convention center.

for longer distances you can always find out the bus system, rent a car, or take taxis

The last time I went, we got one that was in downtown, walking distance from the convention center. HOWEVER, this was ONLY because one person in our group was an uber-platinum ninja member of this hotel. He says he wants a room, they give him one, even if they have to kick other people out. :funny: And then we had to sneak around to fit 4 extra people in, because it was a fancy hotel and they weren't supposed to have more than 4. :funny:

Barring knowing someone who lives in the area you can crash with, that's probably the only easy to find accommodations in the vicinity - make friends with people who are uber-platinum ninja members of hotel chains downtown. :oldrazz:

Comic Con used to reserve rooms in nearby hotels for people to use, but they always filled up immediately when it opened and it's so crowded I'm not sure if they're doing it now anymore.

It's super to do that if you really want to be downtown and across the street from the center. Not something I would ever do though, since San Diego is actually a really easy city to get around. You can get a motel outside of downtown for a third of the cost and all you're looking at is a fifteen minute trolley ride each way.

Are the downtown motels nice, though? If Spoons and I go, it'll double as our summer vacation. We want to stay at a nice hotel. One of the coolest looking ones of course was booked full already like, 2 years ago :csad:

There aren't any problems that you couldn't encounter at motels anywhere. Most of San Diego is actually a good area, only a few problem spots really.

And if you're really looking for top of the line, book the Hilton or Merriot now. For 2014.

I stayed at the Quality Inn a few miles from the convention center my first year and it was fine. It wasn't "nice," though, it was your typical Quality Inn in a borderline sketchy area. :funny:

It might be worth it to find a nicer hotel outside of San Diego and then travel in for the days you want to go. In my experience, you really only go back to your hotel room to sleep, so it doesn't really matter how nice it is. :funny: And if you weren't going to go to the Con all 4 days and want to have some couple-time, it probably would be worth it to stay in a nicer hotel a little ways from downtown to avoid the insanity. Because the whole city will be swarming with geeks during that weekend. :funny:

if it's your summer vacation stay in a nice hotel by the beach... not in down town san diego. that way you can get some fun in the sun in too and save some $$

On the aftermath of the second SDCC 2011 online registration fiasco this month, maybe holding out for it as a couples vacation should be rethought. :o Apparently since tickets were selling out so fast, they were only allowing one registration at a time. Twitter is exploding with people who couldn't secure a ticket for their SO's before the system crashed again. :o

I'm kinda glad I've determined never to go to another one, at this rate hahaha.

I tried my hardest to get tickets for this year and it just didn't work out. :csad:

I feel an empty hole.. it sucks.
