Reeves isn't gonna diss his pal Giacchino after years of consistent collaboration and not scoop him up for the biggest gig of his career. Barring some scheduling snafu, it's 100% going to be Giacchino. Take that to the bank.

I'd like a real departure from the Zimmer like stuff. Junkie XL's stuff is garbage to me, though I didn't mind the notes of the Batman theme.

I'd like to maybe see more of a Bernard Herrman type score. Something like the music in Under the Silver Lake but still in a Batman type way where it's not jarring or pastiche.

I agree about Junkie XL. I can't even take him seriously with that silly name he goes by.

Seriously, kinda getting a vibe that Giacchino will surprise folks. His Bad Times At the El Royale score, along with his scores for Reeves' other films, seems to be a good place to start at where he'll probably be musically for The Batman.

Unless he can create an undeniably great and indelible score which he certainly has the talent for, then I wouldn't complain. I'd just at this stage where it's just a discussion, I'd prefer to see someone other than what's probably on the studios lists.

I don’t disagree, I’d love to see someone else score the film to freshen things up. Bear McCreary, Ludwig Goransson, Christopher Drake, whoever scored Annihilation? There’s plenty of other exciting names that I’d love to see land the gig.

But it’s almost certainly going to be Michael Giacchino, barring some sort of scheduling conflict. He’s Matt Reeves’ most frequent collaborator at this point, having scored all his films since 2008. All I’m trying to do here is show that Giacchino can do right by Batman and the film noir direction that Reeves is steering towards.

Yeah, I mean I get that this is the pie in the sky, anything's possible phase and there are tons of talented composers out there, but being that I am not the world's biggest Giacchino fan (he's very talented, his music just rarely moves me), I am just trying to brace myself for the inevitability that he will score this film and hoping for the best. Especiallly considering he just RT'd Reeves' Pattinson announcement.

Given that Burton/Elfman and Nolan/Zimmer both have prolific collaborations outside their Batman films, there would be a certain comfort in knowing that the new director/composer team already has an established working relationship. Especially considering Giacchino's work on Apes is among his more interesting work. I feel like with the best director/composer duos, the director tends to bring out the best in the composer. So that's a good sign.

Giacchino is one of the more talented composers today. He definitely has it in him and no doubt he'd pull out all stops to create a noir Batman score. It'll probably make him create something a little darker. So if he's hired, I only hope it lives up to that promise.

I wouldn’t mind Giacchino getting the job.
I wouldn’t be ecstatic about it but I wouldn’t hate it.
His work isn’t something I’d listen to on its own like I do with other film scores but I think it usually works really well in the movies and scenes that it’s used for.

As collaborators go, Giacchino is the closest Reeves has to a constant.

The only way I don't see it being him is if he's already booked for something else.

It's gonna be Giacchino. He's always collaborated with Reeves and he's been pretry heavily supporting the project on Twitter. Wouldn't be surprised if Reeves and him have already talked

I was about to say I can't imagine Glass doing the music for a superhero film but then I remembered he inexplicably worked on the score for Fan4stic...

Philip Glass would be amazing. Him or Max Richter are my top 2 choices, especially if Reeves wants to go emotional with this film.
Trent Reznor would be cool but he'll be busy with Watchmen
I'll say this on Giacchino: his Pixar scores are spectacular, and I loved "Exodus Wounds" from Apes 3, but his Marvel stuff was pretty forgettable, ditto Star Trek sans his revised theme. I did quite like War's OST.

His Pixar scores are incredible. I still listen to the opening theme from Up from time to time, just great stuff. His Star Trek/MCU stuff was very forgettable for me though, ditto Dawn, which is concerning. I really liked Exodus Wounds though, and if the score is closer to that it'd fit incredibly well with Reeves' "emotional" take on the material:
