man i gotta see this. but does anyone have a clearer description of the opening "exploding" batsymbol?

I can't believe these guys think Batman is saluting!!!!!!! It's a radio device in his ear, dumb asses! God! I mean, come on! He communicates with Alfred, and listens in on radio waves; the device in his ear. NOT SALUTING!

i dont think anybody thinks that anymore. i think one person made the mistake, but they have since been stabbed.

theres actually no bat symbol, just a screen filled with blue flames, as far as i could tell. i certainly didnt see a bat symbol.

Seeing that I am still alive, it's pretty obvious you guys have failed in offing me. :ninja:

My mistake, obviously. But I definitely interpreted it as a salute at first glance. It's not like the montage pieces had any context to them. :oldrazz: Nolan's films are always, always better in context. I thought all the BB trailers were just okay.

Thanks for all the compliments! It was just as much for my own benefit, since I wanted to be able to remember what it looked like, at least long enough to last me until July. :woot:

the flames definately form a begins symbol right as they dissapear. its not solid but rather an outline of flame.

Nice descriptions!

Wonder why Gordon smashes the signal...At first I thought someone else turned it on to lure Batman into a trap...but then why would Gordon use an axe when he could just unplug it?

Which do you think looks - and plays - better in a big action movie? Come on now...if he'd reached down and simply unplugged it, you people would riot and create a 170-page thread about how lame that was.

:woot:

I'm guessing "swinging an axe and smashing something to bits with it" just looks a lot cooler, and more dramatic, on screen than yanking a cord out of a socket.

Nolan probably doesn't show Batman stopping to get gas for his car either. Some things just don't translate well to the big screen, and you either show something cooler and more exciting (axe vs. unplugging), or (in the case of Batman stopping to gas up) nothing at all.

:oldrazz:

True. I guess it depends on how much logic we're supposed to suspend for the sake of drama. It could work though.

Or maybe Gordon is just pissed at Batman...or he wants to electrocute himself.

The Batsignal is off when he does it, and it's during the day when it's cloudy and/or rainy.

I interpreted it as a PR move. Simply unplugging the signal doesn't really send a message, to Batman or to the public or whatever. Smashing the symbol to bits kiiiinda does.

Ah, thanks for the clarification. :yay:

I always thought it was maybe a moment of frustration, either at Batman, or he made a mistake and is upset at himself? I don't know, it just seemed that maybe thats a sign of the Batman-Gordon-Dent trio slipping.

Ive stuck this as it has the complete description of the prologue in the first post and closed the others as there are to many threads on the same topic. I also added a poll for those who saw it, to rate it.

It must be a PR move. The public and/or the GPD probably feel that Batman is no longer welcome, since there is a crowd of people (police officers? Can't recall) behind Gordon and he's raising the axe very reluctantly. I don't think Gordon will be turning on Bats in this one. At least, not completely.

Woohoo I have two sticky threads in the TDK forums! I should win some kind of award for usefulness. :woot:

I agree. If you look at the comics Bale and Nolan take reference from like Year One and Long Hallowe'en/Dark Victory etc, the cops HATE Batman. Remember Gil Loeb in Batman Begins being all "nobody takes the law into their own hands in MY city". Smashing the signal is most likely because the other cops are like "wtf?" to the signal being put there in the first place, and Gordon's allegiance to the Bat.
Still, atleast Bats will be able to work with Dent successfully (probably - again Year One and Long Hallowe'en) so police don't matter except for Gordon.

Um, I'm pretty sure he's smashing the signal to prevent the Fake Batmen from coming out, and ruining Batman's reputation.:brucebat:

I thought it seemed pretty obvious he wasn't saluting. He clearly reached past his forehead, and near maybe a comlink or turning on his sonar.

But the shot was like this Jim lee pic:

YES! It was totally like this! Fog and all! I keep saying how it's Batman looking over Gotham city in the FOG -- THE FOG! It's not shot in the morning; this is like dawn or something.

and there you go. that HAD to have been an influence. personally i like standing atop the sears tower shot better. just like how people are saying that first image of the joker is iconic, that i think will be like...THE batman image.
