The Dark Knight Concerns about TDK

No, really. He was forcing his voice to do that.

See, he doesn't talk like that normally. So, he FORCED his voice into the deep growl that it was.
Don't treat me like an idiot, please. I'm well aware that is not Bale's actual voice.

But Micheal Keaton, Kevin Conroy and even Val Kilmer all sounded more natural when they used their Batman voice. Bale sounded more like Wolverine in the 90's X-Men cartoon, and that's not a good thing.

Bale needs to refine his voice for the sequel if he wants to become a great Batman in my eyes.

You seem to be a person that takes opinions personally, so lets just say that we can agree to disagree, OK?

Bale's whole thing was because Batman looks like a beast, he wanted him to sound like one...

eh...funny how that turned out but its all good

Oh yes. Becuase I'm sure Bale is in his trailer right now, pacing back and fourth right now thinking frantically "What is Jimothy from Superhero Hype going to think of my Batman voice?!"

Opinions are opinions. I can disagree with them in any way I choose. Whether it be sarcastic, which I prefer, or serious. Doesn't matter to me, shouldn't matter to you.

Michael Keaton whispered. He didn't do anything to his voice.

How can you compare voice acting to onscreen acting? They are two TOTALLY different things and produce two TOTALLY different voices.

And, once again, Val Kilmer whispered as Batman.

My main concern is pacing and mood.

BB and Prestige have a tendency to just drift by before your eyes without ever giving you a proper chance to feel drawn into the world or it's characters. There isn't enough variation between the scenes and you never really 'hooked' or immersed into the movie. There's no downtime in these movies, no quiet reflective moments which offer the audience a lull to appreciate what's happened and what's going on in the characters heads. Things just keep happening, at the same pace, with the same cuts and transitions and the same overbearing music weighing down on the atmosphere. Dialogue becomes background noise, it's not distinct or endearing and it almost becomes tedious to keep up with what the characters are saying.

It looks like TDK is shaping into a fairly crowded movie so I'm expecting this weakness in Nolan style will be present again.

I'd agree with that, his films are quite distant and cold. That worked really well for Prestige, but the emotional scenes in BB didn't really hook you in. The music was dreadful in those moments too. Part of the problem was that the the whole film was very rushed, Bruce wasn't proactive during the first half, and the 2nd had to speed along to fit a crisis into an hour.

Goyer and Holmes gone immediately gets rid of the biggest superficial aspects of Begins, expecting more complex character moments this time, rather than perfunctory monologues. I think the worst mistake was bringing on Zimmer, David Julyan's music is a quiet mood setter rather than overbearing

My only concern is that I won't get a decent seat in the theater for me to watch the movie, and then make up my mind about whether I feel it was good or not.

Zimmer can't hold a candle to Elfman. They should've used Elfman's theme. I know it's a different cast, a different crew, and a different continuity all together, but Elfman's theme is just so there. It's literally the musical embodiment of Batman and one of the greatest film scores ever. Those first five notes at the beginning of the song are spine-chilling every time, could you imagine what it would've been like to hear them while sitting in a theater for the first time in thirteen years in Begins?

The Elfman theme, while beautiful, doesn't matvh with the whole atmosphere of Batman Begins. It's not about realism or anything, just that it doesn't fit the style.

I wouldn't want Elfman anywhere near it, it's a better score but I don't think it suits the new film

My only concern are the mutiple Batmen...what are they thinking.

See, I think that rocks. Copycats etc, it's just like real life.

I think from everything I've seen and read this film is going to have a proper grounding in reality while still being totally true to the comics and have a damn good story to boot! I'm even more excited about it than I was about BB! I think it is going to be very very good.

Still no concerns other than having to wait in line on opening day, other than that i'm very happy and more than ever excited about TDK.

The words "horrendous dialogue" and the name Christopher Nolan should not appear in the same sentence, sir. That just doesn't happen...

You're right..it shouldn't appear in the same sentence...yet, here we are. When TDK comes out and completely lays waste to BB, this will be a big part of it. No writing 101 Goyer tricks in this one. The stupid finders keepers thing, the stupid "you still haven't given up on me" lines, the god awful "it's time i made my enemies share my dread"...the script is littered w/it. You know what, we can move this to the Begins thread...because the number one problem w/Begins was addresed w/Jonah Nolan. I couldn't be more psyched about the new movie...but I cringe when I think about what
it would've been like to sit through 2.5 hours of Goyer drivel. Don't believe me? Watch Blade 3.

BB was pretty much perfect besides like things that only a nerd(myself would see)and it is my favorite superhero movie ever.

My fears for the Dark KNight are that the Joker will not be as ruthless as I want him to be,I need him to be able to kill anyone(children/elderly)and not be afraid to fight Bats,I dotn want him to beat bats in a hand to hand fight but I dont want him to runaway or seed his goons everytime bats is in the same room as him. Also I cant stress enough that with all these villians the plot doesnt suffer ala spiderman3.Also I hope Two-Face looks amazing

And where did I claim that was the case? This thread is for concerns about TDK, and I voiced my concern.

It obviously does matter to you, or why would you be so offended about what I think of Bale's Batman voice?

Michael Keaton whispered. He didn't do anything to his voice.
It wasn't quite whispering. And whatever it was, I thought it worked.

Well, when i'm talking about Batman voices I think it is quite comparable.
And, once again, Val Kilmer whispered as Batman.

Yup yup, couldn't agree more. I was dying to see Jonah take over since reading the BB script.

Batman sounds nothing like he does in the comic books! Bale needs to read a few more and then maybe he can properly get the voice down!

You're kiddin' right? His voice is low and menacing, and sometimes it sounds like a roar.

That's pretty much Batman. :batman:

The doubtful things, I suppose: the jokah (who looks like someone who's read the comic books and thought: "I could get some ideas out of this Jokah character") and Bat's outfit, a tad busy, IMO.

There was some dialogue in Begins that I thought was not only badly written, but completely unnecessary. Most of it was the police chatter during the chase scene. "Coming up right on his butt" seemed like a lame line, as did several others. Also, towards the end there were clunkers like "Harassment! I see harassment!". This seems like Goyer dialogue to me. I have a hard time believing The Dark Knight will have this problem, because as I said the main problem was that it felt unnecessary. Jonah Nolan doesn't strike me as the type to keep clunky dialogue in a script.

yeah because comic book characters can talk while you read the story. It's so fair to make that comparison :whatever:

My only real concern at the moment is that godawful new suit, which is a total eyesore and should have been scrapped at the design stage. Hopefully it will look OK in the finished film, if not then I hope the story/acting/dialogue are good enough to compensate. Only the ice suit from Batman & Robin looked worse in my opinion.

I also hope that Goyer's absence will mean we won't get the stupid attempts at one liners that totally seemed out of place in Begins.

Other than that, I love how the movie is shaping up, can't wait till we start seeing some actual clips.
