Hi everyone,

What are some good Easter eggs for the rest of the marvel u for Shang Chi? I would love to see Mr Negative appear. Why not, Spider-Man has enough villains

So maybe the Black Widow movie can draw the connection...

I hope there are none. Let this movie be its own thing.

Also we have to see agent woo come back! Randall Park is just too perfect

I like Mr. Park but I HATED this dorky version of bad a**
superspy Jimmy Woo. Maybe he can have a kid- also named Jimmy - who is closer to the guy in the comics.

If they go the espionage angle then seeing some interaction with Marvel's resident spies would be cool

CIA's Everett K. Ross and Sharon Carter
Shield's Black Widow, Nick Fury and Maria Hill

Perhaps they could introduce Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine in this film as well.

They could have shang's try to marry black panther like in the comics

Shang-Chi has a lot of spy connections in the comics. I believe it is MI-6 rather than SHIELD, but I could definitely see something there.

Would be nice to have S.W.OR.D finally introduced to the MCU. I actually thought S.W.OR.D would be a good spy agency replacement for MI6.

Nothing against S.W.O.R.D. but I would prefer Shang Chi stay a little more grounded. Nothing the matter with him being associated with MI6.

What's the point of having SWORD without making it space-related? They've already used STRIKE but they could use Mi-13, WHO, RCX, or Black Air instead if they want a British equivalent of SHIELD.

I'd like to see Shang Chi's supporting characters/ rogue gallery that we haven't seen before in the mcu.

Though that being said, like Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, there's probably gonna be at least a cameo from a character that already appeared in the mcu movies to connect it to the previous mcu films.

You make a good argument against SWORD.One i have to agree with it

I however think it would be a good idea not to use SHIELD or a british equivalent.

I think it might be best if they use an Asian SHIELD equivalent for Woke-reasons.

S.P.E.A.R is perfect for this.In the comics It was the Asian equivalent created in response to Thanos invasion.

Honestly, the reason not to use the British equivalent is the geopolitical situation is entirely different. Shang-Chi was created when the UK owned Hong Kong. That is no longer the case.

The Chinese equivalent would be SPEAR, iirc.

Yeah that’s a good point. Whole thing is a bit tricky to cover too

I'm hearing rumors that the main vilian of this movie could end up being the Mandarin! And the 10 rings in the MCU are crime organizations he secretly controls and runs. That would be a fun twist!

I'm betting this is the case too, with Mandarin replacing Fu Manchu as Shang-Chi's father. It would replace the problematic character and avoid legal issues while keeping the whole international criminal element and help tie Shang-Chi (who like Blade in the comics, has often stayed in his own niche) to the wider MCU.

If you look at the Deadline article announcing the movie:

‘Shang-Chi’: Marvel’s First Asian Superhero Movie; Dave Callaham To Write – Deadline

Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, hatched by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin. The script will modernize the hero to avoid stereotypes that many comic characters of that era were saddled with. The comic launched around the time that Enter the Dragon became a global sensation and martial arts films raged. In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of China-based globalist who raised and educated his progeny in his reclusive China compound, closed off to the outside world. The son trained in the martial arts and developed unsurpassed skills. He is eventually introduced to the outside world to do his father’s bidding, and then has to come to grips with the fact his revered father might not be the humanitarian he has claimed to be and is closer to what others call him: The Devil’s Doctor. He also might be centuries old. The deceit makes them bitter enemies.

The whole having a bunch of aliases and possibly being centuries old would align right perfectly with the set up from All Hail the King and Iron Man 3, where Aldrich Killian appropriated the name Mandarin based off of legends he'd heard.

Love Randall Park and his performance on AM&TW but I disagreed with the way they wrote his character. I was afraid that they would make Jimmy Woo a comic relief character and that's exactly what they did.

I keep hoping Woo will be in this to get some redemption for being such a dupe in A-M&TW. Also, he can still be the character that is used for humor. Just don't make him an idiot. Added bonus... If he takes up the lion's share of "Marvel Humor" in this then Shang Chi is freed to be the more serious character.

I would hate to see Shang Chi end up being just another quipmaster general. The MCU needs more characters handled the way T'challa and Steve Rogers were.

That’s the great thing about giving him his own solo though. They’ve got plenty of time to show nuance

Why would the Chinese use an English acronym that spells SPEAR? Notice that all of the names in China aren't English words. They wouldn't have something so Western-centric.

Why wouldn't they have an organisation that either spells out a Mandarin word or is just a bunch of letters - eg XPF.

I'm not actually aware of what the acronym is if anything. Maybe the acronym is actually spelling Mao (矛).
