Constantine General Discussion Thread - Part 1

So far, it's yet to kill Hannibal

Pretty sure one of the main reasons Hannibal is still around, is because it only costs NBC $500,000 an episode. Not sure what Constantine costs but I imagine it's a lot more than that.

Do hope Constantine gets a chance though. I'm really enjoying it.

Yeah, Hannibal is low risk for NBC, other European production companies foot most of the bill.

While Constantine's premiere ratings were "not DOA", its second episode rating of just 0.9 for adults 18-49 scream "likely canceled" no matter how spooky the night was.

Constantine dropped to a fractional rating. Even assuming it rises a couple tenths without Halloween, this is already a dead show walking. That said, NBC will likely continue airing Constantine until Hannibal can take over; how long that will take is an interesting question (Hannibal only started filming last week).

Seems my analysis was pretty spot on, unfortunately.

TV by the Numbers have been wrong before, and frankly, I think it's just a little too early to scream ''cancellation''.

It certainly not looking good, but we need to wait a week or two before jumping to conclusions.

Or 3 weeks since we got both the Nmemoth adaptation and Jim Corrigan turning up after Midnite (pun unintended)

Yeah, they give good stats, but I really don't care for their "Let's Feed The Cancellation Bear!" bit. In addition to it being presumptuous and kind of mean-spirited, it's not always accurate. They pretty much pronounced Brooklyn Nine-Nine dead last year, and look at it now.

Yeah. The whole "Cancellation Bear" thing is kinda naff af.

Look who's on the New Favorite Show ballot for the People's Choice Awards?

Surely the worst thing any website could do for a new show is look at it and go "well it's good, but it's going to be cancelled". That's just telling people to not bother investing time in it. Which will lead to it being cancelled because no one has waatched it because everywhere is telling them it's going to be cancelled...

Bloody idiots...

Thank you!

It's just really obvious. If websites were like "hey, there's this awesome new show! It's on Friday at 10, but it's worth staying in for/recording!" then it would be better.

I just don't get the internet sometimes...

Too many trolls and doomsayers who get their jollies off squawking til their hands get gangreen

Well, to be fair, their job isn't to review or promote a series. They just post some facts about ratings and form an opinion about it's future.

The whole ''Cancellation Bear'' thing is pretty tacky though.

But the very fact they're forming an opinion about the series future based on two episodes worth of ratings is stupid. They should present this kind of information in a clear and unbiased way.

Its funny because this side of the DC universe has sooo much awesome potential but I really feel like it would flourish on a channel like AMC or HBO or Showtime where it could be as raw as it needs to be. Regardless I'm Really rooting for this to hopefuy find a "Community-esque" niche on NBC.

No, it isn't.

Sorry, but most shows that put up a two episode performance like Constantine has have been cancelled.

Look at what happened to Dracula

Episode 1: 1.80 18-49 rating, 5.26 million viewers
Episode 2: 1.28 18-49 rating, 3.39 million viewers

Compared to our Constantine
Episode 1: 1.40 18-49 rating, 4.26 million viewers
Episode 2: 0.90 18-49 rating, 3.06 million viewers

Now consider that Dracula was co-produced by NBC and a British company, based on a public domain novel. Constantine is produced and owned by one of NBC's biggest rivals (Warner Bros), and has much more in the way of special effects.

Hannibal and Dracula are both produced under a unique deal that costs the network much less than other original drama series. Hannibal’s license fee is set to go down for season three so the network ultimately decided to renew that show and cancel Dracula.

Dracula did better ratings, was cheaper to produce, and still got cancelled. And Constantine is dropping much faster.

You're just emotional because you like the show, and won't read the writing on the wall.

It isn't their job to get people to watch a TV show. It's their job to predict what's going to happen based on the data available, and that's what they're doing. They've been wrong in the past, and they openly admit that, but they're right the overwhelming majority of the time. And they're right this time.

How many Nielsen households do you think are reading that website? I'd wager, not that many.

I haven't said a single bad word about the show itself; all I've done is post truths that you refuse to acknowledge.

Don't use DuBois in the Doomsaying follies

I'm not doomsaying and it isn't folly.

Can you dispute any of the actual arguments I've posted, or are you content to continue posting contradictory pot-shots and non-sequiturs?

An honest, unemotional evaluation of the facts available leads to one conclusion in this case.

I have to say I see fami's side of this as being just a realistic view... I enjoy Constantine and all, but frankly was even more into Almost Human (that pulled these kinds of numbers), and FOX f'ed it over just as it had FireFly.
Still can't understand how these cool interesting shows are getting squashed by voice, idol, survivor, housewives, who's dating who comedies, crap flooding the big tv networks for so long now...

Because those are the shows that people watch.
