Matt Ryan Constantine interview
[YT]/LbFXSa62XdA[/YT]
He certainly sounds like he gets the character. He talks about Constantine being a working class anti-hero ready to sacrifice the life of his friends to achieve his goals :woot:

Ryan say his accent in the show is a mixture of his own Welsh accent and a general northern English accent. He says he didn't do a strong Liverpool accent because Americans wouldn't understand it.

New trailer from Global TV's up

Spot anything familar @ 0:48?

My first thought is this is probably a very cool easter egg, but if he does show up he's not really that much out of Constantine's wheelhouse.

Constantine lives in a world (in the comics) where he is kind of the mystical alter ego of Batman who has to deal with Darkseid, Ras', Savage, Fate, Spectre and Bat-mite randomly appearing in the Batcave.

It must really suck to be them. :woot:

Nice vid chamber-music.

Saw a theory that thinks this is Phantom Stranger. Although I don't buy it.

She is a character made up for the show although Goyer said she is a loose composite of a couple of Constantine's female sidekicks from Hellblazer.

Her character sounds mostly like Angie Spatchcock. Angie was a waitress and magician who served as a sidekick and lover of Constantine.

Only slightly. A pint of Angie mixed in with the naivety of Mercury (daughter of Marj) and Gemma (his niece). Speaking of Angie, she's one of six* women who survived being in arelationship with John and lived. Others included:

Zatanna
Zed - Graffitti artist and chosen Mary for the Resurrection Crusade
Marj - neo-hippy who John met on the run post Nergal victory
Kit
Danita Wright - African American journalist for a tabloid rag
Angie (as mentioned)

Yes I left out Epiphany. She was terrible

Doubtful. Seeing as Perrineau's character more or less filling that quota I not sure if we'll ever see him (unless he gets killed off season's end then we get the Stranger)

The offical twitter tweeted this:

"You take one last, long drag for old times' sake. #Constantine"

Makes me wonder if they will have him smoke.

Not sure if you caught it, but we will most definitely be getting Dr. Fate in the show. With that I'm pretty sure will get either Zatara or Zatanna. Hopefully, both.

This is from the last trailer.

I hope he smokes like a ****ing chimney. I can see him picking up that habit if season 1 really puts him through the wringer. Even though the trailers make it seem like he's already a pretty seasoned paranormal investigator.

Harold Perrineau has been cast as one of the lead in Syfy's Z Nation series which starts in the fall so I'm guessing his role in Constantine might not be that big or long lasting.

On the bright side , it may give way to having the Phantom Stranger pop up

Saw on Twitter that Mark Verheiden (early Smallville, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, Falling Skies) is also on the writing staff for the show.

Damn I stared straight at it and did not recognize it till you mentioned that it holds significance... then some fanboy stuff ensued :hrt:

Are You guys aware that the Constantine Pilot also Leak, right?! ;)

Saw it LOVE It!! :D

I was just after some kind of comformation from a source...

DAMN IT, NBC! :argh:

You'll show a cop show dealing with sex crimes but not smoking?! Give over! There will always be smokers in the world whether you, the sponsors and the Surgeon General like it or not!

Just saw the pilot, here are my impressions:
(I wont mention what the story is, I'm just going to talk about the look, the feel, the acting, and such...)

The first half was atrocious, felt very disjointed and the whole pacing was off - as if they wanted to rush through the story completely. It picked up quality wise in the second half though and sort of saved itself in a few scenes.

The acting was for the most part ok, but the female lead was really bland, uninteresting and felt like a cheaper version of Zoey Deschanel. Matt Ryan was quite enjoyable though, great persona and charisma, he was always so bitter, grumpy and cynical you couldnt help but love him. Really felt like the true Constantine here :)
The biggest problem with the characters was that we didnt get to know them at all. The pilot is only 45 minutes and they go straight for the main story and tosses the character development out the window regarding literally every character we meet. We dont know who these people are, why we should care or what their motivation is for anything. If you havent read a Hellblazer book, or know what kind of character Constantine is from before, you have no reason to invest yourself in his story here.

The effects were kinda cheesy at times, they - and the overall look of the show - felt like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and not in a good way. We're in 2014 now, a show shouldnt look like it's from the 90s, especially as we already have shows like Supernatural which looks really good for what it is. Constantine just looks cheap. **** NBC, you have the most beautiful and expensive looking show in modern times (Hannibal) and if this gets ordered to a series, you also will have the cheapest and budget looking show as well.

Overall I was severely disappointed. If it gets a series, then they need to change or upgrade a lot of things to get it to work.

Like how the crack down on The Flash pilot was almost instant, but no one has noticed this.

Anyhow, my thought are that it was ok. If it didn't carry the name I probably wouldn't watch it again if I'd just caught it on tv.

Saw the pilot at last and I'll give it a 7/10. It does wobble in some spots but it does its thing to make up for it. Even the ciggie gets the Laura Petrie's tight pants treatment

The good:

-Matt Ryan nails ol' Conjob's characterization they way old Planky* never could
-Ravenscar in London as opposed to the States as I originally assumed
-"Piggy" Huntoon
-Newcastle, Astra, and Nergal
-First of the Fallen namedrop
-Helmet of Fate
-Ritchie Simpson (which means Judith, Frank and co aren't far behind)
-The last line being a variation of the one from Dangerous Habits part 1 (#41)

The Bad:

-Not enough minutes to flesh out the whole plot
-Not enough lines for Chas. Though we'll hear more in the following episodes.
Chas's "death". Of course we'll see him again. the GlobalTV trailer gave it away
-Coat needs to be longer but whatever
-Merging Judith's pill popping characterization from ST #37 with Ritchie's

The 'hang on a minute!...

John driving. Bare in mind its a rare occasaion since it began with Neil Gaiman in the secon issue of the Books of Magic mini followed by one panel in HB #180 when John drove to retrieve his niece Gemma from Dominic Fredricks then, the recent issue from the New 52 series continuies the odd occasion
