Apocalypse Costumes of the 80s

I really hope we finally see a bald charles this time.

Probably will by the end of the film, right now it seems doubtful he will be bald at start of the film

If Lucas is in this movie, I would prefer him having team called X-Factor.
Havok will be 37 in 1983, can have his own team.
Help X-Men to beat Apocalypse.

it would be a nice 5-min cameo, which then could lead to the tv spin off.

Cyclops - this but without the trunks and the thigh-braces

Jean - replace the sash/belt with a utility belt and give her combat boots

Beast - swamp the trunks for knee-length shorts. Have him wearing glasses and a labcoat around the mansion in a scene or two where applicable

Storm - the suit from The Last Stand with the cape from DOFP. Mix in some more silver and give her the longer haired look

Nightcrawler - Like the below, but give him a belt and have the red from the torso cut off at the belt

Quicksilver - This, just lose the collar
Quicksilver-1-.jpg

Wolverine - A cross between this costume and the one from DOFP. And give us the damn mask, for ****'s sake

If have a common look is REALLY important, fine. Keep these costumes, but make the colour scheme for all of them a tanned yellow and a dark navy blue.

I don't care what he's wearing, Beast needs that hair style.

is probably the best comic adaptation that I've seen so far from Bryan's team (I still can't believe it wasn't picked... it has a RED X-BUCKLE!! And the gloves!!). I desperately hope that this time around they at least make an attempt to go to the source material for inspiration. I would love for the costume designer of Apocalypse to do what this particular artist tried to do for Wolverine... even though they ultimately chose a different idea from him haha. (It was posted by designer Joshua James Shaw, so I'm not sure if he was just interpreting Louise Mingenbach's designs or if they are his own originals.)

I am definitely on the side that likes the idea of matching uniforms, but the details can still be individualized. Also, their everyday clothing can be pulled from the comics as well. Imagine if Sophie's Jean was introduced at the school wearing a green dress similar to this one (found on a Marvel Girl costume idea Pinterest board LOL!):

I know only diehard fans might care, but it would be so much fun. Although much improved in DOFP, Bryan's costume design team has been pretty meh overall. Only FC took pride in everyone looking sharp, trendy, stylish, and sort of comic book accurate. For example, Emma looked smashing and completely true to character:

Even the guy that designed Pietro's belt for DOFP got the character's concept right. His shirt is just like Quicksilver's classic costume colors:

Yet in the film, he looked completely different (not bad though, and I guess I liked the Pink Floyd reference). All I'm saying is that there's so much to do visually that won't fall into camp, and they've barely tried!

Mangold will probably give us the suit in Wolverine 2. As long as Jackman gets to put it on once in his career, I'll be satisfied. As for Apocalypse... it's Mingenbach, so I'm just hoping it's not a disaster.

I love both these looks. Especially that cool concept art for Quicksilver. Hopefully he undergoes a haircut for Apocalypse.

I'm with the majority as I too would like to see Uniformed costumes. Deck everyone out in Black and Yellow, make it look cool, and more importantly, make that X logo prominent. :cwink:

idk, I kinda want a unified look for everyone.

While the mish-mash looks of the 80's and 90's look good individually, and are what are most popular/known (thanks to the animated series) as a team they look a damn mess.

It boggles my mind why they would pick that hideous silver jacket for Quicksilver when they could've gone with that simple baseball/color-blocked white and blue shirt.

Was the silver jacket to take attention away from the stupid wig?

I don't have the faintest clue why they decided that that wig would be a good look for him.

I'd much rather have the jacket over the wig.

Absolutely. I get the love for the comics and animated series, but that would be straight cosplay realness. I think some kind of compromise would work. Like Asteroid-Man was saying, take out the cheesier elements like sashes and underoos. However, there definitely needs to be a unifying theme. X-Men members have always toggled between matching uniforms and indvidual ones. Most of them don't really have "iconic" looks... just elements that are their own thing.

So like the Wolverine concept:

they could all have the belt (please!!!) and the black chest piece, which gives the classic X-uniform V-shape, and then individual coloring and detailing. For example, Jean could have a dark green or red (or even orange like her Jim Lee design) as well as her face thingie (whatever that's called haha), Cyke would be blue (with some yellow) and maybe have his suspender details and/or cowl. Nightcrawler red. Storm of course all black with bits of yellow and a cape. These would be more individualized than X1 and still somewhat true to the comics.

Almost everything with X-Men costuming boggles my mind. :p

Something like the X-Men: Evolution costumes would be cool too.

The Evolution costumes would def work with some tweaking. Jean's costume practically looks like that awesome fan manip from a few pages back.

I've always loved Alex Ross' rejected designs from when the comics tried to revamp to be more like the movies.

Obviously, this isn't exactly what I want for this next movie (considering that the core team is made up of teens), but Ross' "same-but-individual and super thoughtful" approach is exactly what I want from the movies. He really thought through each and everyone's details very carefully. Angel has the all-white X so he fades into the sky. Jean's X and skirt thing makes her leg parts look like the Phoenix boots. Cyclops just looks awesome and the cowl was designed really well. And they are all reminiscent of costumes that they've actually worn before! If that guy who did the DOFP Wolverine concept images could mix that with these, I would be so happy! :D

I actually thought these would have been perfect for DOFP since it was a dystopian future story and the costumes look like they're for hiding and fading into the shadows.

Between those X-men: Evolution and Alex Ross designs, really though, do we want teens in skin-tight spandex in different colours?

They'd look like Power Ranger rejects.

Of course not. Those designs were specifically for the comics/cartoons and I think we can all tell the difference. I just think they're a good starting off point... they would have to be adapted to real-life practicality. I think the actual materials and colors should be more like the DOFP concept art. There's bits of yellow/orange in the Wolverine concept and they're more cammo-like than bright and power range-y.
