Could Betty have worked instead of Gwen?

I would have preferred Betty, mainly because she had already been introduced in the past films. When Emo Peter went to the Daily Bugle, though, you could tell she was interested in him.

Despite my initial feelings towards Gwen's involvment in the film, I ended up not minding her presence. I feel that she should have been a bit more fleshed out before her crane incident, because that came out a bit random. Everyone was like "Who is this and why is she modelling on some copier?"

I would have liked to see Betty as the "other woman" than Gwen. Gwen is too important of a character in comics to be just a simple throw away character in the movie.

With Gwen though, the fact that she is a new character is what works better because the mainstream audience has no idea who she is, or what kind of impact she'll have.

Take a look at Gwen and then at Betty. Gwen's more believable as a threat to MJ. (No offense to Banks, she is hot, but is only cute as Betty)

except that the impact he WOULD and SHOULD have is already lost: not only is the Goblin gone, she's not even close friends with Peter (specially after he pretty much used her). if she dies, it won't have that big of an impact on Peter, and people won't care.

it saddens me that such a great character has been so misused by someone who claims to be a fan of 60's Spidey.

It would have made the movie simpler if they had used betty (as she is alreay a known and established character). So I would have loved to have seen her instead of Gwen (who felt like she was there for the fun of it and no other reason).

Its interesting they brought in Gwen Stacy which may have been a choice of others in the production camp but considering the role she played would Betty have worked? Eddie could have been dating or attempting to date Betty at the time. Working at the Bugle we would have gotten scenes with all three, Eddie Peter and Betty. Once Peter got the symbiote and that massive playas ego he would have pushed up on Betty taking His girl and his pride right in front of him. Also we would have gotten the reaction of Eddie being exposed as a fraud right in front of Betty making him look more of a loser. Something we didn't even get with Gwen. What do you all think? We still could have gotten a scene with Peter making MJ jealous and such. But anyway, any thoughts?

Yeah Betty would've been prefect since she was in the first as well as the second movie . and for the amount of screen time Gwen had, she really wasn't needed (I Blame Avi again for this issue)

Don't get me wrong Ilike Gwen. But I don't like the manner in which she was used. Her and her daddy. We would have gotten better scenes and interaction among Brock Peter and Betty. It was there and they threw other characters in with little to do. Betty is just comic relief. Brock could have truly been humiliated in front of us all including Betty when peter exposes him then swipes Betty right in front of him at the Daily Bugle. Would have been classic.

Annette O' Toole is a red head so Raimi had to cast a red head for his film as well. It makes the ripoff of Superman 3 more authentic.

WEAK...Are you friggin kidding me. Eddie screwed himself. What else was Pete to do they were competing for the job. Of course he should have exposed his lame a$$. Now you are telling me after that the guy sgoes to a church and prays to God almighty for murdering him. Weak motivation. Eddie was hollow to begin with and such lame caring for a girl he was so crazy about. Make an excuse if you want but that reason you just gave changes nothing.

I really feel the film would have been better if they cut out either 1) Sandman or 2) Eddie, Venom and Gwen, although i'd prefer they went with storyline number 2 opposed to 1.

Well...Good point...but they didn't. These are the scenes we got. We will never see those scenes until the powers make their special edition DVD.

My point is that based on the events in the movie between peter and Eddie is not enough to wish death on anyone. More motivation for hatred was needed.

Pretty much my take on it. That scene with Emo Peter and Betty in the office before JJ interrupts with that hysterical line D) really called attention to it. There was really no need to introduce a new character. I get the nod to the comics, but having that interaction with Betty, or Liz Allan or even Deb Whitman would have sufficed just as well for a nod. I rather they hadn't bothered introducing Gwen for such a small and hollow purpose. The character is better than that ...you know, before the goofy Sins past stuff.

God, Bryce was hot.

In your eyes, it's not enough. But Parker destroyed his life in just one day, so Eddie goes and asks God to end Peter's life. Basically, it's an eye for an eye.

Gwen was awesome IMO. she created a love triangle in the film. I mean Peter flirted with Betty when He had the Symbiote but I just don't think Betty should have been part of the love triangle instead of Gwen. and besides, it wouldn't make sense for Gwen to just meet Peter but not like him or anything. not to mention that ever since when Gwen first appeared in the Comics up until Amazing Spider-man #121 (which is when she was killed by the Green Goblin) she had a loving for Peter. that was Peters girlfreind which is yet another reason she should be in the film but I don't think they should be boyfreibd and girlfreind.
