Could Betty have worked instead of Gwen?

I would have preferred Betty. As much as I enjoyed Bryce and Cromwell, the Stacies (Stacys?) were throwaway characters. The police chief could easily have been played by someone unconnected, and with Betty, it would have given dark Peter a little more of a lasting impact. A character that's been around for two movies and clearly likes him gets used just to get back at MJ?
And that would have made a great "second to last scene," with Peter in his staff office, maybe saying a humble "hello" to Betty and she just furious at him. I would have liked that.

It's someone posted in another thread, the fans demanded all these characters and they got them. Its the end of the fanchise and they wrapped it up.

The trouble with that is that the fans were demanding Gwen Stacy back in 2000 as well. Wouldn't it have been better to "listen to the fans" (which I think is a BS Hollywood exec excuse for the poor decisions made in SM3) back when it would have made more sense for Gwen to introduced, instead of just sticking her in as an afterthought at the end of the trilogy?

Its interesting they brought in Gwen Stacy which may have been a choice of others in the production camp but considering the role she played would Betty have worked? Eddie could have been dating or attempting to date Betty at the time. Working at the Bugle we would have gotten scenes with all three, Eddie Peter and Betty. Once Peter got the symbiote and that massive playas ego he would have pushed up on Betty taking His girl and his pride right in front of him. Also we would have gotten the reaction of Eddie being exposed as a fraud right in front of Betty making him look more of a loser. Something we didn't even get with Gwen. What do you all think? We still could have gotten a scene with Peter making MJ jealous and such. But anyway, any thoughts?

Not a bad idea. It definately would have kept things more cohesive (considering all the plot juggling already going on).

I didn't mind Gwen though.
