Could Spider-Man 3 being dark mess up the success a little?

I dont think this movie is going to be dark, as in frightening to children - it'll be dark in tone as in Parker's symbiote enduced emo-sexual-attraction-to-blondes bit.

Hey, Harry Potter movies looks very dark ans makes VERY HIGH numbers.
Darkness doesn't make a film good. :o

It's how well it's filmed,scripted,acted etc. :o

yes and i agree with vile also, the tone is just dark and nothing more

Sure the film will have dark elements but I also hope it has the light, quirky camp elements of the first film as well.

I mean the first 15 minutes of the second Spiderman film were as light as you could get but they were great.

There should be a natural balance. Spidey isn't all doom and gloom!

If he still has the moped we are good to go.

That's different though.

Spider-Man, yeah little kids look up to him, but after this movie parents and kids might think different.

But Parents have to realize...Spiderman isnt the badguy here. The Symbiote is making him evil.:O

Yeah. I'm sure it will be conveyed to the audience that Parker's actions after bonding with the symbiote is of the symbiotes screwing around with Parker's emotions, and not just parker deciding to become darker for no apparent reason.

I remember that mother that protested about Anakin turning into Darth Vader.

ROFL!!!! Are you SERIOUS?! How can someone protest something that was going to be in the story since the beginning?! ROFL ROFL ROFL!!!

I beileve that the addition of the symbiote costume will increase the success of the Spider-Man franchise. I think that young children that are familiar with Spider-Man's origin and the stories that are included in the film will not have an effect on them. I think they will understand why Spider-Man's personality has been altered due to the symbiote controlling his deepest emotions. When Burton's Batman Returns was released in 1992 parents were very skeptical about young children going to see such a gothic grim dark film. Spider-Man 3 will be different though. It will have a dark and mature tone rather than being frightening and horrific for children. Parents should understand that.

spider-man wont be evil he will just be angry and moody and proly do some bad stuff but hes still playing for the right team.

I don't think it will. We have enough in the movie for the kiddies, the dark aspects only make it better to the older audience. I think this will make its money, maybe even reaching 400 mil.

Also 2,000th post baby!!!

i could swear this thread was made a while ago. but oh, well.

the darkness will not affect the box office at all. in fact, SM3 will probably be the biggest of the 3 movies. so there should really be no worries.

As long as it keeps the right balance of humor along with it , someone above mention the Harry Potter movies getting darker , but they also keep a good balance of humor with them , if Spider-man 3 can accomplish this , it'll do just fine

You know, with the parents and kids? Parents not wanting their children to see it because Spider-Man is evil and Venom is in it?

Anyone else think so?

(Venom being a big black scary looking monster?)

No, "Batman Begins" was dark but the masses went to it, the Burton movies were dark too and people went to them. "X-MEN 3" was dark too.

I look at it as if Spider-Man were to kill someone or beat him up to a bloody pulp than it might turn parents off, but I think people care more about storylines, characters, and plot than about being dark. :venom: :gg:

I don't think being that Spider-Man 3 will be darker will not mess up the success. Just look at Harry Potter, that movie sells bigger every time. I think Spider-Man 3 will sell more actually, because its darker.

No it won't.

Look at Revenge of the Sith, Return of the King, and the most recent Harry Potter films.

People like the darker, heavier, and intense films more.

Why are most Spider-Man fans a bunch of light-hearted *****es?

If it were up to me, all Spider-Man films would be R-rated.

I hate Soccer Moms and their kids. They're always afraid, always scared of something. This is why PG-13 comic book movies will never get themselves out of the box that they're in--and advanced to the next level. While most geeks are complaining about comic book movies not being like the comics, I'm complaining that they're too much like the comics, scared sh:tless to try something bold, new, different, too afraid that they might offend someone.

Example: In Superman Returns..."truth, justice and all that stuff"...WTF, they can't even say "the American way" for fear that they'll offend someone?

I wish that you all could see the Spider-Man film that runs inside of my head, you'd never watch another comic book movie the same in your life, unless they followed my lead. Spider-Man, especially Batman, X-Men and even Superman should be R-rated films.

I wonder what the dark scene in this will be?

I think Spider-Man should be R-rated even before CARNAGE, to ready us for his arrival.:o

i'm gonna try to see it over 3 times so it has a shot at breaking records. :D

some kids can take dark and some kids can't.
when I was watching spidey 1 and spidey is getting the crap kicked out of him by goblin at the end this kid sitting besides me (around 4-6 years) crawled in his dad's lap obviously distrubed that his hero was taking such a beating. goodness knows what he would have done during the hospital scene in spidey 2.

but for me the darker the better. the dark spidey/simbiote/venom story line is one of the darkest in spidey's histroy and has to be shown as such if it is to have any impact and judging by the brief trailer sam has NAILED it.

btw has anyone read the 'what if' storyline where the costume successfully merges with pete and spits him out when it has sucked him dry a whithered old man. one of the most moving spidey stories I have ever read.
