Could Spider-Man 3 being dark mess up the success a little?

A little girl in front of me during Spider-man 2 clung to her mother during the hospital scene.

I know some little kids who were freaked out by Green Goblin in the first one.

Spidey isnt really made for "little" kids. Its made for young adults and adults. I mean kids who get scared from seeing doc ock or GG shouldn't really be watching the movie. If they're mature enough its ok, all im saying is that its not intended for small children.

I really wish this would've been a rated R series. Or at least make the reboot series that will be made later on rated R, even though I won't be able to enjoy a reboot as much.

That'd be cool to see Spidey be a little more violent. It'd just make it a little more gory in detail, which wouldnt necessasarily be a bad thing.

While going darker is a risk because of the huge amount of kids in the audience and of course the ever-looming threat of that horde of angry soccer moms that love to blame the media for everything.... I still think it'll end up working out and probably even boosting the ticket sales a little for this specific movie.

This is mainly because it isn't really Peter himself actually turning into a villain on his own free will, as basically just his darker desires and rages are being manipulated onto the surface. While to the mature audience member they'll recognize that this is mainly symbolic and that the symbiote is mainly just bringing these qualities out from their buried position in the mind, to a little four-year old kid all their going to see it as is "Oh, the symbiote makes him bad." ;)

Also worth mentioning --- its pretty much guaranteed that despite the darkness Spidey plunges into --- he gets out of it. For the final fight we can expect to see a classic red and blue wearing Spidey pummeling the bad guys and basically redeeming himself against Venom (representing that exact thing he almost became), so in the end it'll all work out.

If they use my version of the final battle then parents won't like it.:D

Anyway, dark scenes in the movies.

Spider-Man-When Green Goblin came through the wall in Aunt May's house and yelled at her. The final battle in the old hospital.

Spider-Man 2-Hospital scene. A few dark scenes throughout the movie and pretty much all of the end.

Doc Ock's tentacles tearing apart the doctors in the hospital room was quiet dark and scary in SM2 and that was one of the best scenes.

I don't think the Spider-Man franchise has made the bulk of its money off of children anyways. The darkness of 3 will only appeal to teens and young adults better, more money. $_$

Does it really look that dark? I think he'll never get truly evil. He'll just reach that point but not cross it (think Luke Skywalker in ROTJ). And it will stil lbe very mainstream. Don't be expecting a Batman movie or som ething though.

If they do him right he'll start to become evil pretty fast and before he gets rid of it he should become evil for a few minutes then see that it's bad so he gets rid of it.

I think it'll be fine, if fans of Spidey know he does become bad because of the symbiote then there's no harm there. Sure he'll be dark, but we'll also get regular Spidey.

I'd expect a more slow and gradual change than instaneous. A movie needs to breathe and Raimi shows with SM2 he doesn't midn taking time to tell these "pop stories" right though.

venom is a pretty dark story. what if they did a carnage one? now that would scare little kids.

Carnage in a R rated movie is Venom. Venom in a PG movie is 'Dark Spidey'.

You know, with the parents and kids? Parents not wanting their children to see it because Spider-Man is evil and Venom is in it?

Anyone else think so?

(Venom being a big black scary looking monster?)

If parents can bring their kids to Harry Potter, they can bring 'em to Spider-man 3.

If Carnage were in a Spider-Man movie and done right it would be R lol.

will the darkness mess up the success?? maybe a little. Will the darkness make it better? absolutely

That scene is brutal. For a film that is for kids, it's a pretty intense scene. Definetely hints of Evil Dead in that scene.
