Countdown to Wii launch!!!

Everyone who reads this: It is just shy of 8:30 in Mass., and I just got back from my Toys 'R Us. I don't know about in your cities, but there was no one outside of mine, and was able to snag, not one, but TWO Wii pre-order tickets. Don't be complacent, though, you know your area better than I do; if you feel you must leave sooner than expected, do so.

The EXACT same thing happened to me. I now have two Wii pre-orders.

A bit off-topic, but I was surprised to discover that the Nintendo DS is getting the most attention from retailers. For instance, the Xbox 360 display, which used to be in the front and took two aisles, is now in the back corner, taking only one aisle. The Nintendo DS replaced it. I wonder if the big winner this holiday season will be the DS...

After my younger cousins played my DS both of them asked for one. Their father has already gotten the boy a black one and the girl a pink one.

You better not scalp that preorder :cmad:

In my Gamestop, the Gamecube spot used to be immediately to the left of the entrance. Then they moved the 360 section there and put the Gamecube in the back of the room on the right. Now, the Wii spot is immediately to the left of the entrance. The Gamecube section (which has grown) is on the opposite side of the register (the Wii section is on the other side) and now the 360 section is on the far back middle wall.

Go there. It's your best shot. Stores that require membership keep out the last minute idiots. Call to make sure they are getting Wiis and what time they open. Get there at least 2 hrs before they open.
I was thinking Target first (my store has 81, so going around 7am seems okay), then Circuit City, then Costco. I'm gonna have to look at the times. Maybe I'll try the midnight sale on the 18th if I'm not doing anything that night.

I'd do Costco 2nd. I've read some Circuit City's may not get any Wiis. I would get to Target much earlier still. You want to be sure you have a Wii and you want to be sure you get your games.

I played Excite Truck today and it was pretty damn fun. I was surprised it was that good. Now I'm thinking about getting the game.

Yeah, I've been saying for quite some time now that the game is kick ass, even being compared to Smash Bros.'s level of precision timing and depth.

Hm I'll hvae to try it out, none of the Wii kioks around me are like on yet for some reason. I was out shopping for clothes and happened to check out the EB, much to my dismay it wasn't on.

Nintendo has all the GBA owners, non-GBA owners plus the non-gamers they've converted over with their different style of game play.

Well, that's cool. But like Spidey-Bat is saying, don't be evil and scalp it.

Good point. Still, practically everyone who's going to be up is going to be a parent, and parents love Costco. I can't tell you the amount of kids with parents where there during the EB pre-order. I was like "Why the hell are you letting your kids out of school?"

GameDaily reports:
"Nintendo of America has confirmed to GameDaily BIZ that a DVD-enabled Wii is indeed coming to the U.S. Previous reports suggested that this may have been a Japan-only promotion... Nintendo plans to launch this version of Wii some time in the latter half of 2007."
Nintendo could also confirm to various news websites that this video-enhanced version of the Wii will cost more than its launch price of $250.

Hmm. Not that this really matters to me, seeing as I have a DVD player in both my computer and in the entertainment center right beside me, but what about the ones who might have an older Wii?

I don't have a link to back it up, but everyone on IGN is talking about an update or something like that.

Consoles do NOT need to play DVD's. Honestly, nowadays who doesnt have at least two DVD players in their house.

Agreed 100%! Try telling this to some people though, it's almost impossible.

But Costco requires a membership whereas other stores do not.

jaydawg, your best bet of getting a Wii on launch day is camping outside the most remote Toys 'R' Us you can find in California. I know, there's no such thing... but it seems like they're recieving the biggest shipment... that's why they offered a second set of pre-orders:

And it looks like they'll have left overs. Get yer ass there from early-early, and you should have a shot of getting a Wii. Everywhere else will be extremely limited supply.

Also, if I were you, I'd call up to find out if they're doing a midnight opening. Some of the local EBgames are doing it. In fact, to everyone who has a pre-order, you should check if you can pick up your Wii at midnight. I can't because it's in a mall... besides, this Saturday has me going to conferences for 12 hours straight, so I'll be fast asleep by the time midnight hits.

Viva la Wii!

Toys 'R' Us... well, my local Target has 81 in stock. I have no idea how many people will be going to each store. Damn, decisions, decisions.

81? Oh, that's awesome. Since they didn't take pre-orders then that's probably the way to go. My local Target is only "projecting" 40, and it's kind of a big Target to only have 40... plus, they didn't do the legal: "only one per household" thing, which means one person could walk up and grab the whole 40.

Oh, you should also do Target to because I think Toys 'R' Us is limited on games. Yeah, do Target. But get there early.

I know for a fact that we're opening Midnight for Wii launch. We're the GameSpot in Altoona, PA.

Kipobe, any info on how many of each game they will get? Or if all the copies have been promised to preorders? I REALLY want to get TP and it be my first Wii game, but didn't get to preorder the Wii copy.

Yeah, I'm gonna check out the midnight sale at Wal-Mart sale on Saturday and if that doesn't work Target in the (early) morning then Costco. I just hope my pre-order for TW is still good at EB.
