I think he was talking about telling her that he loved her.

And I honestly don't see being a vampire as being a fate worse than death. At least not on this series. Caroline has learned to manage, and so have others. The Salvatores just tend to be little *****es about this stuff. I honestly think Elena's life would be far worse as a human, as long as vampires are involved. And vampires were always going to be involved.

When you consider what elena said in season 2 about wanting kids and her crying and not wanting to lose her future and the joys of growing old it would be a fate worse than death. Im sure eventually she will embrace it, but she will never have kids, she will never get to grow old with the person she loves, and it will all have very little meaning because she has eternity. Death gives us purpose. She has no natural death. She just...is. That is why it is worse than death. Yeah this puts her on more of an even footing but as a human she would have had more of an opportunity no matter how remote to leave the life behind. Now that opportunity is gone entirely.

And right now caroline might be fine. But 500 years from now when she has done everything she could want to do and watched the world change drastically possibly for the worse she will most likely be longing for an end. I just dont see being a vampire a win. Its a long drawn out cacophony of threat and monotony with no end to give life meaning.

loved the premiere. i didn't think they would have klaus back in his body so soon. also how the hell did elena get out to stop damon from killing matt?

Good premire. Though why must Bonnie constantly get screwed over? Always risking her life for someone else. And now she got to see her Grams basically die all over again (never shouldve killed her off in the first place). Hopefully they follow the demon storyline or whatever happens in the books.

I'm surprised they haven't killed her yet. Her character is kind of a deus ex machina.

Premiere was good, the show does more in one episode than some shows do in whole seasons. I also wouldn't rule out Vampire Pregnancy either, happened on Angel, Caroline and Elena could still have the lives they want.

Solid premiere! That was some crazy **** at the end. lol

This show had way too many goddamn act breaks tonight. It felt like they were happening every five minutes.

that was a really nice scene with Damon at the grave

This episode was way better than the premiere. Loved seeing Alaric at the end as well.

So based on what happens in the books.
I am guessing that Elena will die again at the end of this season & she comes back as a human

if they were following the books, elena would have become a vampire at the end of the first season.

Obviously they are changing a few things. But things can still happen from the books. Just not at the right time

Well they did say that they were originally going to turn her in season 2 but thought it was to soon. Though I dont see them taking that book route since a lot of viewers will probably view it as a cop-out.

I personally couldn't agree more. This almost reads as the type of stuff society has been telling women in particular for the better part of the century.

If you want kids so bad, adopt, we have a population problem that's only going to get worse. All these women that want their own kids remind me of my cat.

Moreover, death shouldn't be what gives someone a purpose in life. That's two steps away from the theory that fear is the motivator for everything we do. And it shouldn't be.

500 years from now when Caroline has "done everything she could want.." You make it sound like she'll forever be a six year old. The reality is that at 500 years old, she'll be that much more lived and perhaps be a different person with new goals and dreams..etc.

Imagine you applied that theory to a character that's celebrated for their intelligence and ambition. Say Lex Luthor of superman fame...it's just so backwards in his context. I agree that this paradigm applies to some characters, people even, but it surely isn't the standard. Especially if the worlds development isn't stationary, but always moving forward. If she lived on a farm for an eternity then perhaps it'd get tiresome. If the past 500 years are anything to go by, then the in the next 500 years, who's to say we'll still be on this planet, and if that's so, do the earth bound rules of magic even apply off world.

Moreover, and this one is tres important. This idea of vampires being immortal is pretty silly. Vampires die just about every day on this show. The long solitary life is only as long as you need it to be. And make no mistake, people do grow old in this context, they just don't have the aesthetic. The curse of old age applies more to the Vandal Savage characters of fiction. Those who can't die period.

Im confused. You say you agree and then dont agree.

As for the kids, your argument would be valid if it wasnt elena who cried and pleaded to not be a vampire in season 2 for various reasons one being that she wanted to have her own kids. This isnt me imparting some 1950 baby making mentality upon her. She made it clear she wants to birth her own children. To carry lofe in the womb is a major thing for women. That doesnt degrade them. Its a beautiful part of nature and the bond between mother and child is a very special thing.Go find any girl that wants to birth her own children and tell her adoptions the same thing. And then tell her she must adopt and cant birth her own. She will tell you to **** off. Havent you ever known a woman who was told she cant have children? I have. Its not a happy moment for them. Screw population problems. Its a basic right of being a human to birth your own children. Maybe not a freakin army like the duggards lol but at least one or two. Go remove a womans reproductive organs without asking and see if she isnt upset. Essentially being turned into a vampire against your will is someone doing just that among other things.

As for death giving purpose, I didnt say purpose i said meaning. EDIT: Oops went and reread my post and I did say purpose but meant meaning. Their is a difference. Our only purpose isnt to die, but because of death and the fleeting nature of life our lives can take on a meaning that isnt otherwise possible. Only when we accept our impending death can we really live life to its fullest. It gives us an urgency we wouldnt otherwise have. It also makes sacrificing oneself more meaningful. Elena accepted her death. She was ready to die and said so herself. She was ready to sacrifice herself so her friend could be saved. That is peace. She couldnt even do that. It was robbed of her.

Vampires are immortal. Well in the sense, if they stay to themselves out of trouble then they can live forever if they choose. It isnt that silly. We are just exposed to vampires on this show who are stuck in a loop of endless drama that blows back on them constantly. If damon, elena, stephan ran away they could live forever.

Bonnie Bennett's dad is finally coming to town!

Rick Worthy has been cast on The Vampire Diaries as Rudy Hopkins, the estranged father to witch Bonnie (Kat Graham), TVGuide.com has learned.

"It's time!" executive producer Julie Plec told us in June when we asked about Daddy Bennett's arrival. "This year is a big year of transitions. It's the end of senior year, and there's a rich home life for everybody we're going to explore."

Bonnie has rarely mentioned her father throughout the series, other than stating his disapproval of her family's supernatural history. Finally, after years of distance, Rudy will suddenly make an attempt to protect Bonnie from the dangers in Mystic Falls. About time, don't ya think?

Worthy, who makes his debut in the 10th episode, has previously appeared on CSI, Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.

I'm confused. When Matt went to argue with Rebekah, did she not rip his heart out? how was he totally ok the next time we saw him?

She was hallucinating from the were venom, hence why there was no body on the floor when the scene ended.

i was so shocked that they killed matt so suddenly. then i realised she was hallucinating when there was no body on the floor.
