Cyclops bites the dust... again?

I think that Cyclops is safe in comicverse.

However, if the comics do start following X3, let's just say I will have reason to post in the why do I hate Wolverine thread.

Cyclops is boring as a paired character. He needs to be single and really go buck-wild.

Problem with Cyclops is people look at him and think "four-eyed nerd".

Guess it´s a reflex, one look at those glasses and all his leadership skills, field experience, combat skills, tactical mind, goes out the window.
Dude needs either a character design revamp or a Black Bolt-type power boost

He´s a war veteran, he should instil the level of respect Nick Fury or Cap does.

Everyone is either in the "Cyke is awesome and so underappreciated" camp or the "Cyke is a gay loser nerd who annoys me and may have a small penis" camp. The ideal is obviously somewhere in the middle, and I think Whedon did a good job in AXM #14 with adding a little depth to Cyke, revealing how he factually ISN'T as good a leader as Cap or the other guys in that splash panel whose images escape me at this moment, because he has never really appreciated his own power. He has never even tried to control it, not since he was a child. So, basically, he's a guy who has kind of done a really good job bringing his life up around a pretty raw superpower. He's a flawed guy, kind of permanently depressed, always held down by his power, not enough self-confidence to ever really be in charge of it. A *****, yes, but one you don't totally hate.

On my part I feel like Cyclops is an under-developed character.

In the Comics and in all the movies. He's been practically through Hell and yet he still comes off as this distant guy who cheated on his wife and is the equivelent of a blow-up doll.

His skills are good but he's like a figure they pencil in because they have to. Even UXM arc where the Grey's were killed he felt stiff and stilted and totally dependant on Emma for life.

I wish they'd bring him out more as a character and not just a foil for Emma.

As for the pages here it looks more like one of those dream sequences that Marvel is so fond of. Though I do like her costume, an improvement over the one she normally wears.

99% of writers don't get the character and don't bother to.

As for this situation, I don't think Kitty and Peter are getting killed on that next page, and that's why I think they DID kill off Cyke. Plus Marvel ****es out it's comics to match it's movies.

It's disgusting, but Marvel is so bad except for Dan Slott's stuff that I don't read their books anyway.

I think Whedon has done a good job with Cyclops. He has his flaws, but we are not supposed to think that Emma is telling the be all and end all that is his character. By the end of Whedon's arc, I'm sure we will be seeing a strong Cyclops.

Cyke is a little tough to relate to because although it doesn't seem it, he sort of has everything. He leads the X-Men, does the right thing, and has Jean's love. Cap comparisons are silly. Cap has immense advantages (national identity) that no one else has.

Ummm, no. They don't.

And seriously, Marvel isn't stupid. They let that advert get out because it would spark this very discussion. Mark my words now, Cyclops does not die there.

Cyclops is one of the best leaders in the Marvel Universe. On par with Captain America.

Yeah, except Captain America isn't a ****ing *****ebag (except in Ultimates). And he actually does stuff besides shoot beams from his stupid eyes and date/marry insanely all-powerful *****es.

The problem is most people only know characters for ten years and therefore get sucked up in the "whose hot/whose not" buzz.

Cyclops, when written well, is probably the single best X-Man created. He has a mutant power which is the bane of his existence. He leads a team and is damn good at it. He is very confident in his decisions but very awkward with women. Moreover he only opens up to very certain people in the x-books (Wolverine not being one of them). He has an extremely troubled past, one that makes Wolverine look like a wuss (coma, testing by Mr Sinister, everone he ever loved killed, many ressaurections of loved ones, typically a lot of backstabbing, possible child prostitution). He has so little, but he makes so much of it and he never ever quits.

He speaks with authority but also with conviction as a true leader should. However he is no idiot and is practical in how he sees reality.

He is humble about his abilities, and though you'd never know it Wolverine (has said this) is actually afraid and very respectful of Scott.

Furthermore for all his flaws, Emma missed why he is leader. He is good at it, and he was the first X-Man. He has proven his leadership too, when he faced down Jason Wynguard in an illusion for Jean, when he "killed" Sinister in Inferno, took care of his son in a time warp furing his honeymoon, sacrificed himself to save Nate Grey, "killed" Apocalypse, took charge of the X-Men in Xavier abscence, single handedly led the X-Men back to civilization during the Phoenix saga after they "died", would have piloted the shuttle through the Phoenix force until Jean took his place, if these things aren't making yourself KNOWN (as Emma put it) I don't know what is.

Emma needs to stop criticizing everyone (especially Captain America in House of M) whenever she feels inclined. As I recall she captured and caged the X-Men, sat idly by as the Helfire Club imprisoned Jean, tried to kill Jean, and as for leadership....wasn't she...oh yeah the one who got EVERY LAST ONE of her Hellions killed....

what were you saying about Scott again.

You're right I am trying to remember that time Captain America sacrificed his own wife to save the world (which Cyclops did twice...once in Phoenix Saga, once in Inferno...he also sacrificed himself once, killed Apocalypse, killed Sinister and helped defeat Stryfe).......oh wait he never did that.

What, did Cyclops **** your girlfriend in front of you, or something? Such hostility...

ya this doesnt make sense at all... in 616 continuity.. because it wont piece together with the hellfire club story arch in astonishing

I like Cyke way better than Cap. He was the wolverine before there was a wolverine. The number 1 mutant.

He was the first X-men and he's still one of the best and he's one of the best leaders in marvel right up there with Cap.

I don't care if he *****slapped Galactus, the Watcher, Thanos and Apocalypse simultaneously. He's still boring and ****ty.

No, he just sucks. :down
I'd honestly rather have Wolverine guest star in every Marvel title than have to read another book with Cyclops in it.
Except Astonishing. I like that one.

Every person who hates Cyclops should be required to read this post.

But just like Ben Urich, they'd just ignore it. Fans like that hate Cyke because they're told to do so. They want to like whoever's "cool".

Cyclops is the ****ing most superfluous character in comic books. Let Storm lead the team; at least her powers are useful.
**** Cyclops. ****ing prick. :down
Sigh.
i supposec u can have your opinion,
but that was too harsh even in jest.

Ahh, yes. Every fan that hates Cyclops only do so because they're told to, right? I'm pretty sure it's a fact, you can look it up somewhere?

Pontification doesn't suit anyone.

Keep in mind, I don't hate Cyclops. I think he's a dull character, and the only time he *wasn't* dull was in the AoA. I honestly think his character needs to fly solo for a bit, and create his own identity. The only problem with always being associated with a team to the extent of being the embodiment of the team is that you lose your own individual niche in existence. Cyclops *is* the X-Men - he's not even really a person.

That said, I think he'd be rather interesting single, and even possibly not a part of the X-Men any longer. Have him leave and go to Alpha Flight, or the West Coast to start a new team, or ANYTHING.

You see, me? I don't like whoever is "cool," Kurosawa. I like who is interesting. Make Cyclops interesting, and I'll like him. Otherwise he's as interesting as any other Paladin - and that's not at all.

i agree.. id like to see him leave the mansion after emma betrays his ass..

Xavier would return.. and who do you think would become the new leader? beast? or should storm come back?

In BSG terminology, Cyclops reminds me of Apollo to Wolverine´s Starbuck.

Sure, everyone likes Starbuck because she´s cool as all hell and even smokes cigars and spends the day playing cards but when the commander had to choose a new CAG, he realised how Apollo was such a fine professional as he witnessed the new captain of the Air Group f**k up again and again.

He´s like the 4-eyed kid you hated at school because he was smarter than you, played by the book and always had A+ grades.

Anybody else sick and tired of Cyclops being Emma's *****? Or Jean's *****? Or hell, anybody sick of Scott being the ***** of whoever his girlfriend is at the time?

It reminds me of my life. :(

I bet inc was soooo happy to see Emma make Cyke
brain dead
in AXM:o

Cyke cant handle the spotlight on his own, because he sucks by himself. even if they gave him the spot, i'd be like, "whatever.' thats why they keep on giving him the most f...- up bi....es to f... with him. if they didn't, we would have a pansy nobody leading the pack of muties. they also gave him a third brother just to try to keep him interesting. im just waiting for the pheonix to return with his half-sister and die again with cyclops third cousin from his mother side of the family.
