let me explain...emma took cyclops on psychic trip through his own mind, revealing all his insecurities and self doubts. she thinks xavier picked scott to lead the x-men because he unlike the others, had nothing else going for him. she finally showed him his darkest, most hidden memor, one that he had completely burried so that he himself would forget. in his childhood, after the fall from his parents plane that activated his mutation he's sitting in a lonely hospital ward with bandaged eyes. he was so afraid of being abandoned, so afraid of his lack of control, so afraid of hurting someone, that he made the concious decison not to control his powers. that way he would always be conciously holding his power back. if he did have control of his powers, he would be more careless and at any moment he could mess up an hurt someone. emma then told scott that he could let go, psioncially ripping downt he barriers scott had set up so long ago. but now scott seems to be in a comatose state with his ruby-quartz shades off. whether this is emma's doing or simply from the shock of gaining control of his powers is unknown. it's also been suggested that scott's powers will expand and not just be emmited from his eyes, which would fit with the other rumour that it will be scott who is the prophesized destroyer of the breakworld.
