If I'm understanding things right, and I'm sure Darth'll swoop in once he's up and point out that I'm absolutely wrong about this :o , [BLACKOUT]when she goes into town with BB-8, a couple of people spot BB-8, who the First Order has placed a bounty on and this guy she's beating is here to collect. [/BLACKOUT]

:jd:That actually is similar to an idea I had for the new Star Wars trilogy lol. I just hope she gets a speeder chase.

There is no speeder chase. The fight is actually pretty funny. A group of gangsters start hassling her over BB-8, Finn tries to step in, gets put on his backside and then Rey kicks the crap out of them. This is where the shot of her helping Finn to his feet comes in.

So Finn a trained warrior as he says on the trailer can't even handle some low level gangsters. I keep hearing he gets his ass handed to him by this by that by everyone it seems. :csad: I really hope that isn't the case. Rey can and should shine without making Finn an incompetent idiot. I'll just ignore all these rumors and speculations based on some outlines and see how the movie unfolds.

Finn's a solider, but he has no weapons in that scene. Finn might be a trained warrior, but he isn't Rey. She is already a much higher level them him. She, unwittingly, uses the Force to enhance her abilities.

Kathleen Kennedy (2:06): The fact that that opportunity was afforded me, it's really put me in a position to make decisions that affect a lot of the women that I work with today, that I think has made a huge difference. I mean, the fact that I can sit in a meeting and say, "I think the protagonist should be a woman," I think that those are the kind of changes that are really really important in our business...

Kathleen Kennedy (8:14): Well one of the things, I mean the fact that the company was bought by the Walt Disney Company has been amazing because they very much support the fact that we are trying to grow in the workforce a number of women in executive positions and in all positions inside the company and with the movies that we're making and with the protagonists that we're putting in the stories. And so I got a huge amount of support with that. But we have 50% of our executive team are women. And six out of eight of the people in my story group are women. And I'm sure there's a lot of people that would be surprised that we're making Star Wars movies and the majority of the people involved in the development of those stories are women. And I think that it's making a huge difference in the stories that we're trying to tell.

Kathleen Kennedy (10:40): [The new female lead character] is one of the first things J.J. [Abrams] and I talked about and that we talked to [Walt Disney Studios Chairman] Alan Horn about. It was a very early decision and a choice and something that we worked a long time developing. I think the interesting path we've had is the conversation that took place around consumer products because there were a lot of companies that were in place who frankly didn't initially feel that Star Wars was for girls. And when you have a company situation where between Lucasfilm and Disney we were all looking at this situation and saying, "No, with Star Wars we have to change this. We have to make sure that we create products that are in a sense appealing to both boys and girls. What's wrong with that?"

Allure - Star Wars: How Actress Daisy Ridley Transformed Into Rey for The Force Awakens

By now, you've probably seen the trailer for the latest Star Wars installment, The Force Awakens. If you're like me, you've already bought your tickets (come on, December 18!) But even a casual observer of the Star Wars phenomenon is probably at least a little bit curious about the massive film's newest star, 23-year-old British actress Daisy Ridley. She plays the lead role of Rey, a droid scrapper living on the desert planet Jakku. "When we find Rey, she's covered in grease and dirt. She's been living alone for a long time," says Amanda Knight, the film's makeup-department head. "She's dirty because she was scavenging parts from spaceships, so she had to really look like she's hard-core and gets into fights. This girl kicks ass." Here's how Knight, hair designer Lisa Tomblin, and their teams brought Rey to life.

The new buns. Rey wears her hair in three segmented buns (or "knobs," as Tomblin calls them) throughout the film. "I tried to think of a style that was cool, practical, and different—and not so fussy," says Tomblin. And of course, "it's a nod to Princess Leia," she says. To secure each knot, Tomblin chose a piece of brown wool. "It's rustic, like something she'd find in the desert."
