Drama Damon Lindelof Developing The Leftovers at HBO

Episode 3 was the bomb.

This show is better when it sticks to 'a character' instead of bopping around to everyone.

Hell of a tale, so heartbreaking.

Well, you can't have that for the entire season, it's just nice to pepper some episodes & moments such as these in between the more regular episodes.

This episode was outstanding. After seeing Eccleston falter due to awful writing in GI: Joe and Thor 2, it's great seeing the man back at the top of his game. This might have been the best piece of acting he's EVER done. His character certainly isn't the most likeable guy out there; his one-man crusade to make a large chunk of the Departures look like A-holes really makes it understandable why someone would want to beat him to a pulp. Yet you can't help but feel for the guy, who might not really be doing the right thing but believes he is doing the right thing. The episode had the feeling of a really good short film or short story where everything looks like it's going to work out for the protagonist in the end until he suddenly has the rug yanked out from under him. It's made even more ironic by the fact that he ended up losing his church because he stopped to help one of the people who ended up taking it from him. I really can't say enough good things about this episode. Confused by some of the negative reactions to it.

Also, **** the Guilty Remnant. I think I hate them more with each episode. I'm not saying they should have their heads cracked open with rocks but my God, if I constantly had someone showing up at my house, silently staring at me like I was a piece of garbage, I think it would be difficult not to punch them.

Especially agree Eccleston, it's a shame he was wasted in Thor.

This was the first episode that really grabbed me, because A.) it reminded me of an early Lost flashback, and B.) Eccleston was amazing. Still can't say I'm sold on the show as a whole yet, though, but this episode earned enough goodwill for me to at least give it one or two more episodes.

I hope they do more flashbacks. The 3rd episode was elevated a lot by having that. Father Matt's story was heartbreaking. Poor guy just can't catch a break. Amazing character work there.

This is so stupid, but I wish they would include a running gag every week in which a character opens up his or her fridge at some point and munches on some leftovers. The show is so bleak overall, I think something like that would add some levity. :D

The cops daughter and friend ANNOYING THE **** OUTTA ME

Holy Crap I came in to say the same thing the Daughter and Friend are
so annoying

I cancelled our movie night this friday cause of it lololol

Episode 3 was incredible, really enjoying the show so far. Had my damn heart broken by Eccleston's powerful performance and his story, the paralysed wife, losing the church, his one-man crusade to do the right thing. Hope his story gets expanded on in future episodes, and it would be nice to get insight into other characters as well.

At first when I saw the Guilty Remnant I thought the final part of their "ritual" or whatever to get in would be ripping out their tongues. I don't care if they've already shown them talking, I'm sticking to that :o

Well, so far only that one old b***h has talked. So there's still hope that the other ones have had their tongues ripped out. :)

Yay! :cwink:

I wonder whether the creepy dream the priest had will have any significance.

I'm not sure. It might have just been intended to give us some backstory on his character but it's possible there were some hints there to the overall mystery.

I'm confused. Why was there a containment car full of dead bodies that tipped in the road? :(

Jill is such a pain in the ass and makes the show unbearable.

Speak for yourself, got zero problem with her. Another great episode, Theroux continues to kill it.

I'm confused. Why was there a containment car full of dead bodies that tipped in the road? :(

Yeah, I have no idea on that one. I'm really confused by all of that.

That pregnant girl seriously has a screw loose.

Sunday's outing for the drama fetched 1.6 million viewers, its most-watched original telecast since the June 29 premiere.

The first two episodes of The Leftovers are currently averaging more than 8 million viewers across all telecasts, HBO Go plays and video-on-demand. That's not far off from the gross viewership the most recent drama launch, True Detective, was averaging at the end of its run (11 million viewers).

:up::up:

I was ready to give up on this show after the first episode and I'm so glad that I gave it another chance. It's getting better and better.

I know it's easy to say, but one should never give up on a show after one episode, even two, sometimes, it may just take three or four to settle in but some people just don't have the patience and want to feel instant love for the thing, not to say it never happens because sometimes it hooks you straight away, but not all the time.

Glad the viewership is going up. The third episode is still the best, but there's enough interesting stuff to keep it watching.

I'm digging it so far. I do think it's funny how after each episode the preview isn't just for next week, they do a mash up of the coming weeks since it isn't action packed each episode. I really want to know what the deal with the GR and Wayne are though

Yeah. Wayne is a f***ing creep. He might have some sort of actual healing powers or something... but I still think he's a scumbag.

I'm confused. Why was there a containment car full of dead bodies that tipped in the road? :(

The truck was from the company Loved Ones, they make bodies for people so they can have funerals for the departures. It looks like they just redress dead people though.

Finally caught up on this, damn good television.
