#TheLeftovers is dark to the point where positive terms of evaluation risk selling it as something it's not. Bleak, but hauntingly so.
I didn't find it as depressing as some, but you're definitely going to need to understand going in that levity is rare and fleeting.
Tonight.

I'm counting down the minutes. :D

Yup, I officially like this show. :D

I love hbo but I found this show very boring and bleak cant see it going multiple seasons

as good a theory as any:word:
I mean that deer was stuffed, right? It sure looked like it and then it was walking around. Dog missing for three years, then shows up. It means something.

I'll keep watching cause I'm intrigued but I won't be surprised if this only gets one season.

It's too soon to say, I think. But remember Breaking Bad was slow and dark and turned out amazing. :)

Breaking Bad wasn't created by Damon Lindelof and wasn't dealing with post-rapture* society. This show is a lot darker and more nihilistic than Breaking Bad. And Lindelof's involvement almost guarantees that this show will have more questions than answers.

*I only say rapture cause we don't know what happened yet.

Goddam, that was incredible. It's just so intriguing & fascinating, so much going on, some wtf elements (the Lindelof touch ^^ which I love) especially at the end, many characters who could turn out to be very interesting to follow.

It's also a very good looking show & performances seem strong, especially Theroux's Kevin Garvey, he really impressed me here, I've only seen him a few times before, mostly in Parks & Rec and it's just a complete metamorphosis seeing him in a dramatic role. Looking forward to him the most in the following episodes.

Not surprised about the mixed reaction on some internet forums, the critical reception is very positive but it's been said by some of them (Sepinwall for example) that many will hate it.

I thought it was alright. I'll be checking it out. The characters were good and for a pilot it did it's job of keeping me intrigued.

I didnt think it was that bleak. Or at least not so bleak that it was hard to watch. The dog bit didnt really bother me that much.

I dont know how long the premise will last without getting annoying. I predict maybe 3-4 seasons. Maybe.

Everything with the dogs was really disturbing if you actually care at all about animals (and god knows dogs or animals in general being mistreated in movies or tv is very badly seen), but I actually love that idea, it just paints a picture in a few seconds that tells you exactly what world you're about to enter.

For the length, Lindelof said that if it only lasted this one season, he'd be satisfied, although of course they seem to have plans for more. Considering this is HBO, I think it's pretty much going to be a lock for season 2, Nielsen ratings don't matter for them anyway.

My worry is that it will take four seasons to get to the good stuff. The end of days stuff from the Bible, which you would think is the meat of a biblical story based on the Rapture? There is no way, we'll see that this season or even next season, or probably the season after that.

Knowing Lindelof, it will dance around what people want to see explored for years and only half-heartedly tackling it near the end of the series when the quality is already dipping.

That is why I remain hesitant about jumping onto this series.

That's what everyone said about LOST. :awesome:

Cmon Aesop...how many good seasons did we get out of that though :o

:whatever: I care about dogs and animals in general, but to me that scene is no more disturbing that a scene where a bunch of humans die. Ive seen people, online (not saying you) freaking out about the fact that dogs died.

It's really silly to me how people react so much more strongly to dogs dying where you see movies and tv shows with bunch of humans, men women or even children die.

But the idea here is precisely that this is not the biblical Rapture, ie with the character of the Reverend who will have his own episode in episode 3 if I'm correct & Lindelof talked about it as well.

By the way, Lindelof doesn't have to cater to people's wants & is getting way too much flak, I highly disagree that the quality in Lost was dipping towards the end, it had its bad episodes & some useless plot lines but him & Cuse are aware of that. I'm one of those who thinks that the ending to Lost was a masterpiece.

On another note, it's not surprising that the internet WOM on this seems to be mixed based on the pilot when you've got people saying this will suck because "hey it's Lindelof, everyone says he sucks, so that means I agree with them" or that everything is not spoonfed in the pilot episode which is supposed to set up the characters & story.

A lot of those people omit most of his great work on Lost & just focus on the bad stuff (at least what is considered bad by some).

@Blackman: you can act offended all you want, it's pretty much a fact that many people are more touched by an animal's death than a human, all my friends are the same way, like many people, including me, why is that ? I don't know, that's just the way it is, a defenseless animal being killed just touches some people more than a human dying, that's just how it is. No reason to act all offended & judgemental.

Looooooved the pilot!

Seasons 4 and 5 might be my favorite seasons of LOST. Quality dip? Nah.

I've always believed that Lindelof was the most talented writer of the Bad Robot Guys. (JJ, Orci, Kurtzman, and even Carlton Cuse if the Bates Motel writing is anything to go by.)

I'm pretty sure there won't be any end of days Biblical stuff because I don't think the book was like that. Not that kind of story.

Watching it right now, didnt know it was so long so wont be able to finish it before work but what I see, I like thus far.

How am I acting offended. Im just stating my opionion

Just watched. Loved. If anyone has a problem with the fact that this isn't diving head first into Rapture-ness, go watch ****ing Left Behind or something. It's been made clear as day pretty much any time this series has been discussed that that isn't what this show is. And I'm fine with that. The pilot served it's purpose in getting me interested in where the characters are going and how **** is going to escalate. And yeah, I wasn't really overwhelmed with bleakness either.

Yeah. And that makes sense. Losing 2% of the population from out of nowhere is bound to leave it's share of scars on people, but I think it's easier to go about life than what the reverse would be (TWD), where it's probably 98% that have died/been reanimated and only 2% still alive.

I dug the pilot, got it set up to record on my DVR. I'm interested in where this is going. Funny thing is people calling it the rapture though when there is never any mention of a rapture in the bible. But I'm giving this a shot since it did a good job of setting the hook for me. Never got into Lost so I don't have any prejudice either way for Lindelof but I do like Peter Berg. Is he going to be involved in every episode?
