Williams' Superman theme in the piece called Friends and foes. "New hope" track followed by "Anti-hero theme", evil Superman confirmed.

How sure are we of evil Supes by the name? Where does it say Williams' music is used in the piece? I don't know what else it could be. Maybe it's just Supes back in black, recovering from amnesia, but maybe not necessarily an evil Supes. Personally I'd feel excited if there was some form of an evil Supes that comes back before the real Supes returns for a possible showdown. I don't think the public has to be aware necessarily though, that way we don't get another scenario of where the public hates Superman again.

It didnt make much sense to me. If you want to invert a theme to make it ominous and dark to signal the audience that something is wrong, then why do it for the William's theme? It makes much more sense to do it to Zimmer's theme, to signal that something is wrong with THIS superman. If he wanted to use the William's theme he should have put a nod in the main Superman theme from Zimmer. That would have made sense, and would have been a clever nod to the past. This is neither clever nor subtle.
Yeah, completely agree. B89, BR, Spider-Man, etc? Love it. But Elfman's modern output doesn't really do anything for me, unfortunately. I just pray the Zimmer Superman theme gets used prominently at some point.

Oh! I didn't notice another track was posted online! Just heard the John Williams' theme. Awesome. Wondering about the 2:18-2:24 mark though. Guess it's still evil Supes maybe?

I hope the Supes theme is used at least once more beyond this moment where it's to the full spirit of Superman, not a possessed or alternate Supes state or whatever, just Superman.

That was great to hear.

The only thing I think that comes close is this.
Mainly from 0:43 when the strings motif kicks in.

You've got great hearing!

These 2 tracks made MOS/BvS scores easter eggs :oldrazz:

Man, that Friends and Foes track does not sound like DCEU at all but the composition itself is so dope. :woot: Elfman's harmonic vocabulary is much deeper than Zimmer/JXL's and he composes in more true golden era/old-school/symphonic horizontal development way, the sound is vintage, but the orchestration is delicious. I hope we get more tracks soon. :woot:

Variety is a wonderful thing! :woot:

And I'm glad that you like the track. So far you were so against Danny Elfman, right?

I hope that Aquaman will really feel like its own thing and focus on the characters' (and James Wan's) individual strenghts, like Wonder Woman did.

There's variety and variety. You have bazillions of soundtracks in all thinkable genres these days you can listen to. I don't see any reason why you'd need variety in a trilogy kind of thing. It's like The Return of the King suddenly used electronic score instead of what Shore established.

I'd actually love Elfman composed Zimmer produced score. I'm really surprised Elfman did not try to sound more like MoS and BvS considering this is a direct sequel. Harps and xylophones? Really? :woot:

You know what I was thinking about this yesterday.

Come The Batman movie, I would actually like for them to give Batman a new theme. And stick to that for further Batman movies.

I like when a movie and its sequels stick to the established themes. Just like the Spider-man trilogy, or TDKT. I hoped the same for JL too.

I dont mind the solo movies taking a different route because I'm all for variety

The Hero's track tonally fits with the last two films.

It's harps and timpani vintage sound vs toms, bass drums and synths over-processed sound. They sound sooo different.

I'm not talking instruments. I'm talking mood.

Junkie XL is like bread..when it tastes good, it's great..but when it's bland..it's amazingly so.

[YT]DCBnfvHq48A[/YT] (is this even music?)

Elfman..on the other hand is kind of like a fading rock star who could make a comeback at any moment. Nobody is disputing his work with Burton (and Raimi, I think is great too) but most of his recent soundtracks have been kind of...frankly..replaceable.

On the other hand..it's like everyone on youtube is under 15.

"And they fired JunkieXL for this?!?!?!?"

Friends and Foes got complaints for sounding "too much like Star Wars."

The sadness, for me, is I think people are accustomed to an electronically padded soundtrack so that a more orchestral style feels "off" or "dated."

Like black and white photography, to a kid.

Yeah. I'm willing to take a break from the wall of sound synths and drums in favor of some more old school music. Combine Elfman's sensibilities with the existing Superman themes (Zimmer AND Williams it seems) and you've got gold.

Whoever said Friends and Foes reminded them of Ottman on Superman Returns i 100% agree. Maybe that’s why I love it so much.

Junkie has only made one track that I’ve ever liked. Was on 300 rise of an empire’s soundtrack, think it’s called ‘Greeks are winning’ I believe

Got some batman vibes from it. Felt like a nice dark contrast to Hans’ MOS theme. Wouldn’t have been mad if Junkie just said screw it and used that as the Batman theme honestly.

I'm just happy I'm loving what I'm hearing so much... even Wonder Woman's score was way to bland for me.

When the DC animated scores are getting it right with much less money and time, something is seriously wrong.

Bloody hell, you cracked it. That's the motif for sure... there might be a part in the film where it comes a bit closer to the Elfman's version, but that's the one.

Well done!

Saying that "Friends and foe" sounds like Star Wars show that some people don't really listen to much music.
I don't remember who said here that Elfman has a much richer musical vocabulary, and looking back to the actual trend in blockbuster's score, I have to agree. I like some bombastic score but it could be fresh to have something a little bit more old school imo. The synthetic bass and brass, the loud drums and everything like that is cool, but it starts to become very generic, I think.
For JL, I don't mind Elfman at all, I just hope the transition will be smooth but if the music really please me, I will be totally ok with a total shift to this new direction.

As much as I like the 5 note theme..I honestly think that Elfman could combine that Gothic tone with the more action-oriented sound of Zimmer.

To be brutally honest, I think the reason that Elfman's Spider-Man music isn't more revered is because the trilogy isn't as iconic by modern viewers as Nolan's.

I feel like Zimmer's best when he's allowed to go ham-Intersteller's music was refreshingly minimalist..but when he's tied down to not the best material..he can be banal as well..

Batman should absolutely get his own official theme in his solo film

Considering how Batman has changed since the end of BvS, his motif/theme should stay there too. It doesn’t fit the changed version of the character.
