Justice League Danny Elfman Scoring Justice League - Part 1

perhaps Reeves will bring in Michael Giacchino to rework the elfman stuff, the same way JJ brought him in to assist Williams.

Or Giacchino will compose his original score, featuring Elfman's Batman themes. I'd say that's more likely.

Ew. This just reeks of a lazy mindset. He's not even bothering to think about whether his theme created for Keaton's rendition is suitable for Affleck's rendition. At least Hans thought about the character, his arc, his motivations and used that to create an amazing score. Elfman is just proclaiming his "Batman" theme as the original, which, as good as it is, pays very little respect to the other composers that have actually TRIED to create something special. What a disappointment.

Others were brought in to help assist Williams scoring Force Awakens but I don't believe it was Giacchino. He was helped though, I remember reading about that, his health was an issue.

Desplat was brought in to help Williams, love that Elfman will be using his theme it stands to reason if you use Williams you use his theme too. We are lucky to get that.

I'm happy that Elfman gets to use is Batman theme. My first Batman movie was Batman Begins, so as that was the sound I grew up with it's what I associated with the character, but over time I really started to appreciate Elfman's theme a lot. I do think it's THE Batman theme. I remember hearing it in Lego Batman and getting excited.

Also I remember a video on youtube that even placed the theme over the ending of Batman Begins and I think it meshes beautifully. They did the same with Zimmer/Newton's stuff which also worked really well, but I don't think I'd ever want to hear that music outside of those movies.

To me, Mike's occasionally exceptional..[YT]LaLegF2hAxI[/YT]

And mostly serviceable..his music is properly orchestrated..but a lot of it feels like "We wanted to get John Williams and couldn't" rather than feeling like "this soundtrack is in its own universe."

There are tons of composers worse than Giacchino, but to me, it's like getting a slushie when you wanted a milkshake.

I understand John Williams is really old..but to me Alan Silvestri and John Powell are higher up the totem pole of musical compositions.

But back to Elfman...I think this score will be hit and miss, but a hit from Elfman is a lot stronger than a hit from many modern composers..and a miss isn't the end of the world.

I really think Justice League is a consolation prize for Elfman not doing a 21rst century Batman film.

also, there was a reworked version of the MOS theme in the comic con trailer too.

It'd be a shame if it wasn't on the soundtrack as I'd love to own that version:

Yeah na he better bloody not take the mos theme away. God...bringing Elfman in is sooo annoying.

Didn't find anything "cocky" or "arrogant" about what Elfman said. If he believes his Batman theme is the only Batman theme that's his opinion. At least he complimented Zimmer's contributions from TDKT trilogy. That was the opposite of what Zimmer did while promoting TDK when he made a snarky remark about Elfman's theme being "jolly". Also Elfman's Batman theme is an actual theme compared to TDKT, which consisted of motifs, and BvS, which was mostly repetitive rhythmic pounding of notes. Can't blame Elfman for ignoring what Hans and Junkie came up with for Batfleck, which left a lot to be desired. It's easily my least favorite of the Batman themes I've heard, which is saying something with how much I've criticized TDKT scores. It wouldn't bother me if Elfman also ditched the MOS and Wonder Woman themes/motifs since I don't care too much for those either.

Yeah....no.

I can understand why people will have a problem with Elfman saying what he did. Goldenthal did write a full theme as did Walker. Zimmer wrote motifs. And in TDKT are not even consistent.

Yeah the B89 theme could be an amazing theme, and it still would be dumb to reuse it in a rebooted different character 30 years later. The only reason he is doing it is to pander to cheap nostalgia.

If he didnt want to use the established theme, he should have written a new one. And if he cant write a new one, use the established one.

Imagine if Zimmer used his TDKT music in BvS. It makes no ****ing sense. What a dumb move.

I don't remember the original Batman theme being heard in The Lego Batman movie.

Shut up Danny, that's a lack of respect.

more interesting will be how his score works for Justice league. It seem to be , we'll see.

Look at him proclaiming his Batman theme as the only Batman theme ever. It's really disrespectful to other people's takes on the theme, which have evolved and changed as different renditions of the character have, and as it should.

Well it looks kinda egotistical, but I think you are making a big deal of his behavior.

I don't really want to say it, but I take it a lot of people will call Elfman arrogant and biased for saying there's only ever been one Batman theme...but I don't care. I completely agree with him.

I like Hans Zimmer's theme, but Danny Elfman's Batman theme IS the Batman theme. It's a masterpiece. No original score defines the spirit of the character better than Danny Elfman. I realize though...what about the Adam West TV theme? I consider that separate. It's more of a theme song.

Surely people will call Elfman out for being biased, but I don't think you have to look at it from that angle that was necessarily. It's okay for someone to compliment their own work, it doesn't necessarily make one an egocentric a-hole. I don't think by saying, "there's no other Batman theme" necessarily makes him arrogant either. From what I've seen, in interviews with Elfman, people praise his work, and Elfman is rather humble about it. John Williams, too I think.

Williams is one of most humble music composers I've seen interviewed in film music documentaries. Williams once said when asked if he ever gets tired of being appreciated, that maybe sometimes he does, but "you never get tired of being appreciated."

Not interested in buying the soundtrack anymore...

In that interview, well, sounds rather unfortunate, as we have already heard the track that was posted online...so. When he said "maybe", maybe he uses John Williams' original Superman theme for 2 minutes?

I still hope that's not all of it. It was more like the Superman theme used within two minutes, but not entirely two minutes.

Man, the score from the Steppenwolf battle clip reminded me why I fell in love with superhero music...
I want that full soundtrack, like, NOW :hmr:
