Sigh...all this talk of nostalgia...you can tell me what you guys think? The minority of people that I meet today are usually tend to be "old-movie phobic" if you will. For me, most movies from the seventies set the standard--Yes, many of them are dated, but that's really the era when the blockbuster was born. Some of the movies aren't dated at all. Most of Superman: The Movie isn't either. After all, this was the inspiration that Christopher Nolan used for his take on Batman Begins, and Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman.
I'm always surprised to meet anyone today that has told me they never watched the "old" Batman or Superman movies, regardless of their interest in Batman and Superman generally.
When I suggested they check out the Reeve or Keaton movies, their response is usually, "No! That's an old movie!"
God, before that, Adam West and George Reeves were the dated Batman and Superman. Furthermore, to compare Christopher Reeve's Superman with Adam West's Batman is utterly ridiculous.
But friends of mine automatically assume the film will have bad acting, cheap-looking effects and it will be boring, etc. I think they're narrow-minded. Still, even some of those people won't watch a movie as old as 1995, or even 2003.
One friend I know, and I call him a loser for this (just kidding) but he's a Star Wars fan...yes...but has he seen the original Star Wars movies?--I MEAN THE STAR WARS FILMS? ...NO! Why??? He won't watch them because they're old! To his mind, Star Wars is the "prequel" trilogy.
He left The Force Awakens at the cinema because he realized it was a sequel to the original trilogy which he never watched before, but he won't watch the original because they're old. Won't watch Indiana Jones either.
Funnily enough, when I persuaded one friend of mine to watch "The Shining", he was surprised that this "old" film actually had good acting in it. He couldn't believe it. He watched "E.T." and loved it, and "The Mask", I know that sounds random but he was opposed to watching a film from the 1990s too.
