Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

Keep Elektra out of my damn Daredevil flick! Seriously. The movie would instantly be a team movie then and not focus nearly enough on the Matt Murdock character.

Build the Daredevil character, small background characters with the first DD movie, then if you want to bring out ANOTHER super hero, then do it in the second movie.

what do you think of john good man as the king pin? i sen him in severa movies so i think he would make good king pin.

That'd be cool if Johansson could play a part as Black Widow. The character may be too busy elsewhere.

Goodman is an awesome actor, but he's probably a touch old for King Pin.

No, because he also has the acting chops that compliment that the fact that naturally has the right look.

Right look + acting chops = viable choice for the role.

I'm a big fan of him as Dexter but it's hard for me to see with the type of personality Matt Murdock has.

Yeah, I see him as Dexter too Hunter; but I also used to watch Six Feet Under in which he played a completely different character to Dexter (and won a Golden Globe if I'm not mistaken) so I'm confident in his range.

I read somewhere that Mia Maestro (who starred as Jennifer Garner's half sister on Alias and also a tough spy) was also in contention for the role of Elektra in the 2003 film but lost out to Garner.

I think Fox picked the wrong sister. Maestro looks much more like Elektra than Garner.

Cant argue with that - she looks more Greek than Garner ever would.

Honestly, as long as Walton Goggins plays Bullseye, I don't really care what they do.

Be careful what you wish for. Bale fell way short of expectations for many.

Who cares about that? Fanboys generally are unhappy no matter what. There are many who still think Hugh Jackman was wrong for Wolverine and that Robert Downey Jr. coasts through playing Tony Stark (which is true, but he's still awesomely perfect in the role). Yet, these are the same ones who passionately defend Daredevil '03 and either Hulk film as underrated. Go figure.

Bale has done an amazing job as Batman. Daredevil holds a lot of potential and I'd be very (happily) surprised if Fox got someone to commit to the role that much. HOwever, given that it is Fox, I am not enthusiastic.

Posted this in the Marvel Universe thread, thought I'd post it here -

Patrick Wilson as Matt Murdock

I like it.

Brendan Gleeson as Wilson Fisk

Too old now.

Steve Zahn as Foggy Nelson

Sure.

Julia Voth as Elektra

The Jill Valentine girl? The most convincing thing she's done is model for Jill's face in the Resident Evil games. Other than that her one movie is DTV Sucker Punch or something. I think acting trumps comic book resemblance.

Melissa George as Karen Page

That's a great choice. Though I wonder if they can't get the original Karen back if she has a major role, as her only success since has been Grey's Anatomy and that show is starting to age.

If Karen's in the next film, I hope they cover her descent down the social ladder. From respectable secretary to a druggie that's down on her luck. That could make for some powerful storytelling if done correctly. Might have to drag that out for 2-3 films.

Very True. It seems they HAVE to find something wrong or complain about something just for the fact of saying it wasnt up to their standards. I dont think it ever will.

Well besides the fact I don't think he has the right look, I also don't think his acting is right for the role. I'm a big fan of his, and love both Dexter and Six Feet Under, but I'm having a hard time seeing him as Matt Murdoch.

Hugh Laurie=Ben Urich.

Also, did anyone else think that even though he played only a sub par Daredevil, Ben Affleck was an absolutely fantastic Matt Murdock? I thought that he nailed Matt Murdock. If Jason Statham plays Daredevil than I think it will probably be the reverse, and he will play an excellent Daredevil and only an okay Matt Murdock.

DareDevil: Man Without Fear
Matt Murdock/DareDevil - Leonardo DiCaprio

(Lol, poor choice of words) I think DiCaprio needs to be a Superhero on screen. He's also got to be a big one, because you don't give him some cheap-o. DareDevil is that hero. Leonardo DiCaprio has mastered playing troubled street kids in The Departed, and masterfully played a vigilante Detective in Shutter Island. I think he'd be great.

Wilson Fisk/Kingpin - Vinnie Jones

I'd consider putting him back in some extra padding for this role, but I think he could be a worthy successor to MCD.

Foggy Nelson - John Cusack

I almost think he's too good for this part, but I aimed high with Dicaprio, and John Cusack I think could be a good partner to him. I do not think it's essential for Foggy to be pudgy, and with Cusack I feel he brings more of Foggy's personality to the screen.

Bullseye - Joseph Gordon Levitt

Karen Paige - Kristen Bell

The Owl - Ted Levine

Battlin' Jack Murdock - Michael Biehn

I like pretty much all of those, to be honest. The one big issue for me would be that Cusack and Dicaprio don't look at all close to the same age, which Foggy and Matt are.

It's true. Cusack must be fifty-ish, but I think it can work. People can go to Law School whenever.

Not digging that cast save for JGL for Bulleseye and Biehn for older Murdoch

Should they really use Bullseye again? It seems like Kingpin and Bullseye were the villains in the first DD movie, perhaps they should have some new villains in this movie.

I think if another DD movie does get filmed, it should start as a reboot with Kingpin. Too much time has passed to continue form the original & to go forward the continuity. I know many are going to groan, especially because hes typecast, but picture James Gandolfini, maybe agreeing to shave his head as Kingpin. With a strong story , it could grow legs in hands of right director.

That's why I included 'The Owl', but I agree incidentally, DareDevil has a pretty diverse rogue's gallery they ought to make full use of.
