Daredevil reboot: official discussion thread

And doesn't Born Again kinda hinge on Kingpin learning Daredevil's identity? He already knew it in the original movie.

I'm sure they will motify the story to suit their needs

^incredible hulk did it

TIH wasn't a conventional reboot. The GA have to be emotionally invested in DD and his world from the get-go for Born Again to work, since the central theme involves the tearing down of the protagonist.

Personally, I'd rather see a TV show than a film reboot. A DD show could be "The Wire" of superhero shows. But hopefully more popular.

It might make more sense budget-wise than doing a Batman show (which would also be amazeballs) since DD doesn't have jets or muscle cars in his arsenal.

A movie version of Born Again could work with someone else other than Kingpin. You could easily put The Owl in that role, or even The Purple Man.

I still don't understand the logic of basing the storyline of a reboot on a storyline that hinges on the protagonist being already established.
Why would you want another origin story?

I have no idea who David James Kelly is, but I hope to god he's a better writer than whoever churned out the previous script.

And I hope to god they stick with Miller's "Born Again" storyline.

What was wrong with the last script? He did pretty well adapting the Frank Miller run into one cohesive movie. About the only complaint I could imagine is that they could've used that material for two or three movies.
Seriously, what was wrong with it?

If they go straight into Born Again, they will be mostly depending on people having seen the first film, and it will be a loose sequel/reboot like TIH.
A lot of people will have seen the original film, it did very well in the states, and then you have tv showings, dvd...

I suppose you're right though, they should probably do another DD storyline and save Born Again for the sequel, since this is supposed to be a reboot.
But they should avoid the origin, as the only DD film we have had has been an origin film.

They could adapt the 3 part 'the Kingpin must die!' Miller story, that introduced the kingpin to DD, surprisingly just about none of that arc was mined for the original film. Bullseye is in it as well, so it might feel like too much of a retread if he is included too, but you could replace him with another super-villan for the movie. Or...you could do Bullseye even better than the Colin Farrell version, get him in an outfit this time, and write him up to be more like the cold, emotionless killer from the books.

I honestly dont feel that the first DD was that much of an origin story. If I remember correctly it was kinda of that we saw how he got this powers and then when we flashed forward he was already pretty much established. We didn't see him go out for the first time or anything like that

They did spend a fair amount of time on the origin though, how he got his powers, adapting to them, learning to fight(when he fought the bullies), as well as the whole story with his father.
DD's 'first night out' was probably the only component missing from the usual formula, which was a good thing, as we could just leap right into an established battle hardened DD, and get on with the story early in the movie, instead of waiting until half way through, like in Spider-man1.

They could use the character of Stick in the origin this time, if they went that way, which i guess they arn't gonna do though.
Terence Stamp's version in Elektra did not do justice to the characeter at all. In the books he is quite funny, a rough and tumble kind of guy who hustles pool in grimy bars(he is also blind), but at the same time trains ninjas to use their sixth senses, and is into all kinds of Yoda type mystical training.

They could do that in a sequel though, showing it in flashback, while at the same time doing that classic Miller arc with Stick and his ninjas teaming up with DD to fight the Hand(without Black Widow being involved of course though, who is not really neccesary to that story anyway).
But they'd have to do the Elektra story before that one in order for it to work, and this time not make her so nice, make her a genuine super-villan who used to be Matt's girlfriend.

TIH isn't the best comparison, since until part way through its production, it wasn't meant to *be* a reboot. Hell, I still see people today who try and claim its not "really" a reboot, it just retconned a few minor insignificant bits.

They shouldn't do Born again as a reboot. If It was a loose sequel then Bor again will work.I have a feeling we are headed for a Incredible Hulk situation.A film that suffers
at box office due to confession.

It's fairly obvious the Incredible Hulk was Intended to be a loose sequel.Take out the new origin over the opening credits and all references to the new origin and It could be seen as sequel to Hulk.Hell even now people In audence and press act like Hulk Is part of marvel studios film series.

From what I understand this is his first writing credit...but his pitch to the Fox Execs wow'd them

Sadly, with Fox's track record, that may not be too difficult for a writer to do.

it is what it is..we'll have to see what happens

Only two of those fox films are comic movies. As for Sony, I actually liked both Ghost Rider films and will completely agree on the other two.

I apologize if this information was already posted in this thread or if it's too off topic, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Splinter is (or at least was initially) a satirical homage to Stick. :ikyn

In the next film should Matt Murdock wear his traditional red costume or his original Yellow costume?
